QUICK START GUIDE
Introduction
The TCS Pro 500 was designed and engineered to provide users with an all-in-one digital imaging solution for
microscopy. The camera and VMS3.6 Image Analysis Software were designed specifically for use with the
Android 2.3 operating system.
                 IMPORTANT                 
DO NOT attempt to upgrade the Android operating software on your TCS Pro 500.
Doing so will disable your camera and VMS3.6 Image Analysis Software.

Installation
Connection Via C-mount Adapter
 Remove the cap that covers the camera and
thread the TCS Pro 500 onto the c-mount
adapter (sold separately).
 Next, install the c-mount adapter onto your
microscope.
 With the TCS Pro 500 installed, you can now
adjust the screen to the desired angle. Once you
find your desired angle, tighten the Allen screw on
the back of the screen (shown right) with a 3mm
Allen wrench. Once the angle is adjusted to the
preferred setting, use a 1.5mm Allen wrench to
tighten the two smaller Allen screws to lock the
hinge mechanism.

Getting to Know the TCS Pro 500

Before using,
remove the black protective
cover plate on the side
of the TCS Pro 500.

Your TCS Pro 500 should
come with the battery charged
from the manufacturer.

To charge the battery, plug
the included external AC power
adapter cord into the External
AC Power Jack and then into any
standard 110 AC electrical outlet.

The battery life indicator is located on the top right
part of the touch screen. Depending on the
usage, the battery should maintain a charge for
approximately 3 hours. It takes 12-15 hours to
charge the battery. NOTE: the screen time out is
set by the manufacturer to be 10 minutes to
conserve the battery charge.

To change the screen time out:
TOUCH the APPLICATIONS icon
right side of the desktop,
on the
TOUCH the SETTINGS icon,
TOUCH the DISPLAY icon,
TOUCH SCREEN TIMEOUT,
TOUCH to select any of the other times shown –
or NEVER to always have the TCS Pro 500
on.
NOTE: choosing NEVER is NOT recommended
when using the battery as the power source as it
will shorten the battery charge time.

Powering/Turning On
To Turn the Power On
 TOUCH AND HOLD the Power On/Off button
for 5 seconds to power on.
Power On/Off
To Wake Up From Sleep Mode
 TOUCH the Power On/Off button once to move
into ready mode.
To Shut Down/Turn Off
 TOUCH AND HOLD the Power On/Off button
for 5 seconds to turn the power-off and select
"OK" on the pop up that appears on the touch
screen to shut down the TCS Pro 500
– OR –
You can also TOUCH AND HOLD the Power
On/Off button for another 3 seconds to shut
down.
Unlocking the TCS Pro 500
Lock Icon
 On the touch screen, SLIDE THE
LOCK ICON up about 3/4 of the way
toward the top of the screen.

Google Search
 TOUCH THE LEFT SIDE of the Top Controls
Button ONCE to bring up the Google Search
screen and keyboard. (TOUCH the Back
icon on the top right of the screen to return to
the Home Screen)

Locking/Unlocking
Screen Rotation Feature
Screen Rotation Button
The TCS Pro 500 will automatically adjust the
screen to landscape or portrait in whichever
direction you move the tablet when the feature
is UNLOCKED.
To UNLOCK this Screen Rotation Feature,
SLIDE the SCREEN ROTATION button to the
LEFT.
To LOCK in your Screen Rotation setting,
SLIDE the SCREEN ROTATION button to the
RIGHT.

The Home Screen
The Home Screen (shown right) of the
TCS Pro 500 will show these four icons
to help you get started quickly:
(NOTE: To return to the Home Screen
from any other screen or application,
PRESS the Home Screen button
on the right side of the TCS Pro 500.)
The CAMERA icon will open the IMAGE CAPTURING software. In this program,
you can capture digital still images, record live video, adjust camera settings,
perform a white balance, and set the screen resolution.
For more detailed information, please refer to the TCS Pro 500 Manual.
The VMS3.6 icon will open the IMAGE ANALYSIS software and will allow you to
work with captured images. Captured images from the camera will automatically
load into the VMS3.6 software if the program is running. VMS3.6 Image Analysis
software can also open saved files. The VMS3.6 software allows you to calibrate,
measure, annotate, count and perform other image analysis work. Measurement
data can be easily exported to other programs as well.

Capturing & Saving Images
With the TCS Pro 500 you can take and save images using the VSM3.6 software (useful if you wish to do
immediate analysis, measurement or annotation), or just with the camera only (useful if you wish to take and
save multiple photos before analysis).
You can save images to the TCS Pro 500’s internal storage and then copy to a USB flash drive, or a mini SD
card.

camera is taking the picture and then will hear a shutter
sound if the sound is on and the volume is turned up
enough to hear.

Using the VMS3.6 Software
TOUCH the SAVE icon

The Save Image window opens and you can rename
the file here before saving.
To rename the file, TOUCH and HOLD the area where
the name appears (as numbers) and TOUCH
SELECT ALL in the pop up screen – this will select
the entire name and bring up the keyboard.

Type in the name using the keyboard and
TOUCH SAVE (you should see a message
“Saving . . .” then “Saved Sucessfully” when it is
saved.
NOTE: You can measure, annotate, and manipulate
your image here – please refer to the VMS3.6 Manual
for instructions on how to do this.
The TCS Pro 500 saves the photo to the internal
memory and within the ES File Explorer folder and
then within the vms3 6 folder.

Copying/Saving Images to a Disk
Back Arrow
To save the image to a disk – USB Flash or Micro
SD card, TOUCH the folder icon in the VMS3.6
Software window.
TOUCH ES File Explorer in the pop up window,
then locate and TOUCH the vms3 6 folder to
bring up the images taken with the camera.
Make sure you have your USB Flash drive or
Micro SD card installed before proceeding.
Locate the image you want to copy and TOUCH
and HOLD and then select Copy from the pop up
window. This will put a copy on the clipboard.

TOUCH the Back Arrow (upper right side of pad)
once to bring you to the ES File Explorer folder.
For USB Flash drive, TOUCH the udisk folder
and then pull open the clipboard by dragging it up
from the bottom to the top of the screen and then
let go.

For Mini SD Card, TOUCH the extsd folder and
then the DCIM folder and then pull open the
clipboard by dragging it up from the bottom to the
top of the screen and then let go.
Locate your image and TOUCH
and HOLD and then select Paste
from the pop up window. This will copy
the image onto your USB Flash drive or
Micro SD card.
Deleting Images
To delete an image from the VMS3.6 folder,
simply TOUCH and HOLD the image and select
Delete from the pop up menu.

Taking Photos With the Camera ONLY
If you do not want to measure, annotate, etc.,
images you take with the camera – or if you wish to
take multiple images with the camera first, you can
do so by using the Camera software.
TOUCH the Camera icon to bring up the Camera
software.
Once you have finished taking your photos, TOUCH
the HOME button on the right side of the pad to take
you back to the HOME screen.
TOUCH the APPLICATIONS icon
on the right
side of the desktop, locate the ES File Explorer
folder and TOUCH it to open it.

Locate the DCIM folder and TOUCH it to open it.
Your images are automatically saved to the DCIM
folder when you use the Camera software only.
To RENAME your images, TOUCH and HOLD the
image and select Rename in the pop up window.
TOUCH the area where the image name appears in
the pop up window and then Select all in the next
window that appears. The keyboard will pop up and
you can type the new name. Then TOUCH Ok.
To COPY images to USB Flash drives or Micro SD
Disks – follow the same instructions as above for the
VMS3.6 software.

Digital Cameras for Microscopy
This digital camera is warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the
date of invoice to the original (end user) purchaser.
This warranty does not cover damage caused in-transit, damage caused by misuse, neglect, abuse or damage resulting
from either improper servicing or modification by other then UNITRON approved service personnel. This warranty does
not cover any routine maintenance work or any other work that is reasonably expected to be performed by the purchaser.
No responsibility is assumed for un-satisfactory operating performance due to environmental conditions such as humidity,
dust, corrosive chemicals, deposition of oil or other foreign matter, spillage or other conditions beyond the control of
UNITRON Ltd. This warranty expressly excludes any liability by UNITRON Ltd. for consequential loss or damage on only
grounds, such as (but not limited to) the non-availability to the End User of the product(s) under warranty or the need to
repair work processes.
All items returned for warranty repair must be sent freight prepaid and insured to UNITRON Ltd, 73 Mall Drive, Commack,
NY 11725 – USA. All warranty repairs will be returned freight prepaid to any destination within the Continental United
States of America. Charges for repairs shipped back outside this region are the responsibility of the individual/company
returning the merchandise for repair.
