Domino Report Server/400 Version 1.00 Users Guide
Overview
Introduction
The Domino Report Server/400 software is a native Domino for AS/40 application that allows AS/400
reports to be automatically stored in a standard Lotus Domino Report Warehouse Database for viewing
and archiving purposes. Reports can be automatically converted to ASCII Text, RTF, HTML, PDF or Host
Print Transform formats such as PCL or TIF as they are transferred to the Domino Report Server/400
databases.
PC files stored in the AS/400 Integrated File Systems (IFS) can also be attached to the Domino Report
Server/400 databases making this an ideal solution for archiving both AS/400 reports and MS Word
documents, Excel Spreadsheets, etc…..
The software also contains an AS/400 command that can be used to attach AS/400 databases to a Domino
Report document in Comma Separated Variable (CSV) format. This can be used to electronically
distribute AS/400 database information for use with MS Excel, Access or any other application that can
read comma separated files.
Once reports have been stored in a Lotus Domino Database, they can be accessed using the Lotus Notes
Client software or the report database can be made available to an Internet or Intranet web browser for
viewing by enabling the Lotus Notes/Domino HTTP server service.
Lotus Domino replication can also be used to duplicate portions of the report databases to other Lotus
Notes users or Lotus Notes/Domino servers. Replication allows the reports to be stored in multiple
locations and accessed directly from the local user workstations or Notes/Domino Server.
Report databases can also be saved to CD-ROM or Optical disk for permanent archival. The databases can
then be accessed via any PC with a standard CD ROM drive or with a network based CD ROM Server.
Licensing Information
Domino Report Server/400 is licensed on a per AS/400 basis.
The license allows reports to be processed on one licensed AS/400 system running Domino for the
AS/400. Databases can be replicated to Domino Server running on Windows 95, NT, AS/400, Unix or any
other supported Lotus Domino platform.

AS/400 Report Manager Domino Database Installation
The Domino Report Server/400 software stores AS/400 reports in a Domino database called the AS/400
Report Manager. The AS/400 Report Manager database template must be installed in the /NOTES/DATA
directory on the AS/400 before the Domino Report Server/400 software can be used.
If you’re not sure where your /NOTES/DATA directory is located on the AS/400, contact RJS Software
Systems or the person/company who installed Domino for the AS/400 on your AS/400 system.
In order to install the AS/400 Report Manager database template, one of the following methods can be
used.
Copying AS/400 Report Manager Database from a PC CD Drive
If you are using the AS/400 NetServer or Client Access/400 shared folders, simply copy the AS/400
Report Manager database AS400RPT.NSF from the RJSNOTES directory on the RJS CD to the
/NOTES/DATA directory on the AS/400.
Note: Make sure to remove the Read-only property on the database after it’s been copied to the
/NOTES/DATA directory on the AS/400. Removing the read-only property can be done by Rightclicking on the file in the Windows Explorer and selecting Properties. Then simply uncheck the Readonly flag for the file and click OK.
Copying AS/400 Report Manager Database from AS/400 CD Drive
If you are using the AS/400 CD drive to copy the AS/400 Report Manager database AS400RPT.NSF from
the RJSNOTES directory on the RJS CD to the /NOTES/DATA directory on the AS/400, use the
following AS/400 command to copy the file to the /NOTES/DATA directory:
CPY OBJ('/QOPT/RJSCD/RJSNOTES/AS400RPT.NSF')
TOOBJ('/NOTES/DATA/AS400RPT.NSF')
The example listed above copies the AS400RPT.NSF file from the RJS CD to the /NOTES/DATA

Chapter 2: Getting Started
Introduction
The purpose of this chapter is to describe how to quickly get started using the Domino Report Server/400
software to start archiving your AS/400 reports to Lotus Domino.
Installing the Domino Report Server/400 Software
If you haven’t installed the software yet, go back to the installation section and install the software before
continuing. If you’re just reading ahead to find out what to do, then please continue.
Overview of Report Server Process
The concept behind the Domino Report Server/400 is that a Lotus Notes/Domino server can be used as an
on-line report warehouse to store AS/400 reports instead of printing them. AS/400 reports are
automatically stored in a Lotus Notes report warehouse database called the AS/400 Report Manager. The
AS/400 Report Manager database can be accessed for report viewing and printing by using the Lotus
Notes Client software or an Internet Web Browser such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet
Explorer. The AS/400 Report Manager databases can be burned to CD-ROM for long-term storage and
retrieval via Lotus Notes.
Another use for the Domino Report Server database is to store online invoices or other types of customer
documents that will be distributed and viewed via the Internet. Filters can be created on the User Data or
other user fields to create a lookup index for reports via the Web.
The basic process flow works as follows:
1. Reports are generated on an AS/400 and placed into selected output queue(s) so the Domino Report
Server/400 process can retrieve the reports.
2. The Domino Report Server Output Queue Monitor job is submitted when reports are ready to be
captured. The Output Queue Monitor process can be run once or can be set up to monitor the selected
output queue(s) and automatically download the reports on a timed interval. In most cases reports will be
captured once or twice per day.
3. When a report is processed it automatically gets converted to the selected format such as ASCII Text,
RTF, HTML, PDF, PCL or TIF/PDF (via Host Print Transform or the RJS PCL to PDF converter).
Domino Report Server/400 Version 1.00 Users Guide
Chapter 2: Getting Started • 7
4. After each report is converted it is placed into the AS/400 Report Manager Lotus Notes database as a
new Notes document. The report is stored as a file attachment and the pertinent report information from
the AS/400 such as spool file name, date, time, pages, user data, form type, etc. is stored with each
report so a report can be easily located for viewing and printing.
Simplicity and ease-of-use is what makes the Domino Report Server/400 such a nice product for archiving
AS/400 reports or making them available online.
Storing PC Documents from the Integrated File System (IFS)
The AS/400 command NTSADDRPT can be used by AS/400 applications to add any PC file or document
from the Integrated File System (IFS) to the AS/400 Report Manager database. This allows AS/400 report
documents to be mixed with PC file documents such as MS Excel Spreadsheets, Word Processing
Documents, Images, etc.
Storing AS/400 Database Files as CSV Attachments
The AS/400 command NTSADDDB can be used by user applications to add any AS/400 database file to
the AS/400 Report Manager database as a Comma Separated Variable (CSV) attachment. This allows
AS/400 database files to be distributed along with AS/400 reports and other PC documents such as MS
Excel Spreadsheets, Word Processing Documents, etc.
Customizing the AS/400 Report Manager Database
As long as none of the fields in the Archived Document form are removed, the AS/400 Report Manager
database can be customized to meet customized user needs. Agents can be created. If using Domino R5,
framesets, pages and other enhanced viewing features can be used to enhance the database structure for
web based viewing.
If you would like to work with RJS Software Systems to customize the AS/400 Report Manager database,
please contact us to discuss your needs.
First Steps
Before going any further, make sure you have performed all the installation steps listed below:
• Make sure the RJSDOM library has been loaded on the AS/400.
• Make sure the AS/400 access code has been entered.
• Important: Make sure the operating system specific information was entered as described in the
installation section.

Chapter 3: The Report Manager
Database
Introduction
The purpose of this chapter is to describe the AS/400 Report Manager database fields found in the Report
Manager Database.
The AS/400 Report Manager database can be customized as long as the original database fields are not
removed from the database. Some users will want to create their own custom replication processes or
agents to handle specific distribution tasks outside the scope of the base Domino Report Server/400
software.
If you would like to work with RJS Software Systems to customize the AS/400 Report Manager database,
please contact us to discuss your needs.
Report Manager Database Fields
The database fields found in the AS/400 Report Manager database are listed in this section.
DocTitle
This field contains the document title information. When the AS/400 downloads a report, a report
description is assigned and the description gets placed into this field.
CreationDate
This field contains the date the report was created on the AS/400 system.
CreationTime
This field contains the time of day the report was created on the AS/400 system.
AdditionalText
This field is used to hold additional text information scanned from the AS/400 Report Header. If the Scan
Header option is enabled in the Batch Report Server software, this field will be filled in when a report is
sent to the Report manager database.

Hard Coded Replace
If this setting is set to Y, the selected Domino Database Field value will always be replaced with the data
value from the Replacement Value field.
Replacement Value
This field contains a hard-coded data string that will get placed in the selected Domino Database field.
This field can also hold special keywords that will allow User Defined Data to be mapped from a spool file
to the selected database field.
The User Defined Data option is the only way to map index data from a *USERASCII or *AFPDS spool
file where the User Defined Data must be set prior to generating the report..
User Defined Data can be set for a selected spool file by using the OVRPRTF command prior to
generating the report. If you need a sample of how to do this, contact RJS Software Systems
User Defined Data values can be formatted in a semicolon (;) delimited list as follows:
Value1;Value2;Value3;Value4;Value5;Value6;Value7;Value8;Value9;Value10
The special keywords to move the User Defined Data values to a Domino database field are:
*USERDEFINED – The entire value found in the User Defined Data for the selected report will be
placed in the selected Domino database field.
*USERDEF1 – *USERDEF10: The selected field is extracted from the formatted User Defined Data
value and is placed into the selected Domino database field.
