CHALLENGES
•Adhere to security regulations related to
software
•Deliver high-quality content to internal
clients
•Enable visual communications team to
expand skills
“Adobe Creative Cloud for
enterprise lets us do more cross
training of users.”
Eric Hards, Manager, Visual Communications,
Lockheed Martin Space Systems
In May 2013, the company standardized on Adobe creative software, taking advantage of bundles that offered
software integration, simplified purchasing, and targeted solutions for design, web, and video. The visual
communications team was the first group at Lockheed Martin Space Systems to move to Adobe Creative
Cloud for enterprise, giving all users access to the entire family of Adobe creative apps to serve an array of
business needs.
Expanding skills and offerings
The visual communications group supports internal clients with graphic design, video production, and
other creative services to aid visual storytelling. Using an integrated creative toolset helps the group keep
up with project demands, increase their knowledge and skills, and offer clients across Lockheed Martin
relevant and inventive communications materials that capture the attention of target audiences.
In the past, employees only had access to certain software applications, which limited their ability to experiment
and work with different types of content, such as motion graphics or video. Today, employees can expand their
breadth of knowledge with different Adobe apps without needing to purchase additional licenses.
According to Eric Hards, Manager, Visual Communications at Lockheed Martin Space Systems, “Adobe
Creative Cloud for enterprise lets us do more cross training of users. Graphic designers who use Adobe
Illustrator CC now have access to Adobe After Effects CC and can play with motion, leading to them being
tapped to do work they couldn’t previously have done.”
Access to more applications and acquisition of new skills enables the team to experiment more, which
results in the ability to offer additional services to help clients reach their goals. “We can come back and
introduce new ideas, such as animating a graphic on a website, because we’re not limited by software,”
says Hards.

Integrated video production capabilities
Video is often requested by various groups for many purposes. For example, engineers may ask for high-speed
video and photography of how a satellite was built to help them figure out why something broke. Internal
communications may request engaging instructional videos to teach employees about new initiatives and
processes. And marketing frequently asks for anything from a short project update video to a larger piece
highlighting the work being done in the advanced technologies lab to share with government, education,
and industry audiences.
To keep pace with these varied video demands, the team switched from Apple Final Cut Pro to Adobe
Premiere Pro CC for video editing. Using the video editing app available as part of Creative Cloud saves
the cost of purchasing additional software and enables the team to take full advantage of the integration
between Premiere Pro and After Effects. Key to the success of transitioning to Premiere Pro was bringing
in a trainer who specialized in helping editors switch.
“With Adobe Creative Cloud for
enterprise we can bring employees
up to speed quickly and add
additional talent when we need
to, which is beneficial in terms of
getting work done quickly.”
“In a creative environment, people are very attached to their existing tools and workflows,” says Hards. “We
showed our editors that Adobe Premiere Pro CC has all of the features they need plus additional features to
meet their daily goals.”

Lockheed Martin Space Systems
Compliance with security regulations
In addition to using Premiere Pro and After Effects, the visual communications team also uses Adobe
Audition CC for audio work and is exploring how Adobe SpeedGrade CC and Adobe Prelude CC may fit
in with their video production workflows.
At Lockheed Martin, the move to Creative Cloud for enterprise wasn’t without its challenges. The company
works in extremely classified areas with strict security requirements. With Creative Cloud for enterprise, Lockheed
Martin Space Systems can gives employees offline access to new version of apps as they are released and
can also deploy the software offline in cases where internet connectivity is limited or non-existent.
“With Adobe Creative Cloud for enterprise, our visual communicators have the latest desktop apps
available to them to work better and faster,” says Hards.
License management and support
By obtaining the software under an Adobe Enterprise Term License Agreement (ETLA) Lockheed Martin Space
Systems is able to install software as needed and true up at the end of the year versus issuing multiple purchase
orders throughout the year. Staying up to date on software also enables the company to more easily hire
contractors who can get right to work.

“With Adobe Creative Cloud for enterprise we can bring employees up to speed quickly and add additional

The creative environment at Lockheed Martin has changed dramatically over the past 20 years, when
Adobe Photoshop, Adobe PageMaker, and Corel Draw made up the bulk of the creative toolset. Along
the way, the company has benefitted from product additions and increased integration among creative
applications. Today, Lockheed Martin can purchase multiple creative applications from a single vendor to
enable the visual communications team to better serve clients.
