Introduction
Welcome to the Data Center Sales Certification Guide. This guide is intended to help you successfully complete the
Lenovo Data Center Sales certification exam, and is intended for business partners and Lenovo internal sellers.
Prerequisites
You should have a minimum of one year experience selling servers, storage, and networking products (any vendor), with
at least six months experience selling Lenovo products. The guide includes products announced as of July 31, 2016. Any
other product announcements or withdrawals made after that date are not included.
Prerequisite knowledge for the certification exam includes the following:

Flex System is the next generation of blade technology with more performance and bandwidth and far more
capability to consolidate and virtualize than previous systems.
Introducing the Lenovo Flex System Carrier-Grade Chassis, a new version of the Flex System chassis that is designed for the telecommunications industry where tolerance of harsher environments is required. This CarrierGrade Chassis is designed to NEBS level 3 and ETSI certification levels and for operation within Earthquake Zone
4 areas. The chassis also includes dust filters and -48V DC power operation, as required for many Central Office
telco environments.

Did you know?
The chassis is ASHRAE 4 compliant, meaning it allows normal operation in temperatures of up to 45 °C (113
°F), with temporary elevated temperature excursions of up to 55 °C (131 °F) for as long as 4 days. This is a key
requirement for industries, such as the telecommunications industry where the harsher environments in central
offices (COs) require IT equipment that operate on -48V DC power and can tolerate higher temperatures.

The 14 bays in the chassis allow the installation of compute nodes, with I/O modules in the rear. A single chassis
or a group of chassis can be fully customized to the specific needs of the computing environment. IT can meet
the needs of the business by using a single system across multiple operating environments.
The system monitors and manages power usage on all major chassis components so you have total control over
power consumption. With -48V DC power supplies and N+N or N+1 redundancy, the chassis integrates into telco
environments, such as those in central offices. The chassis design also optimizes cooling with cooling zones within the chassis. There is sufficient cooling throughout the chassis to allow normal operation in temperatures of up
to 45 °C (113 °F), with temporary elevated temperature excursions of up to 55 °C (131 °F) for as long as 4 days.
The system manages the fan modules based on the node configuration within the chassis. Therefore, the system
can increase the speed of certain fan modules to cool potential hot spots and use lower speeds for other fan
modules where appropriate.

The Lenovo Storage S2200 (shown in the following figure) provides simplicity, speed, scalability, security, and
high availability for small to large businesses. The S2200 SAN array delivers enterprise-class storage management
technology in an affordable solution with a wide choice of host connectivity options, flexible drive configurations,
and enhanced data management features.
The S2200 is a perfect fit for small offices and remote and branch offices of large enterprises that need a primary
storage solution that supports general purpose workloads, such as file and print serving, web serving, email and
collaboration, and small databases. The S2200 is also well-suited for secure archive storage or a low-cost backup
solution.

S2200
The S2200 offers the flexible choice of 6/12 Gb SAS, 1/10 Gb iSCSI, and 4/8 Gb Fibre Channel (FC) host connectivity protocols. The Converged Network Controller (CNC) design of the S2200 makes the selection of iSCSI or FC
host connectivity as simple as attaching corresponding transceivers or Direct-Attach Copper (DAC) cables to the
SFP/SFP+ ports on the RAID controller.
The S2200 supports up to 96 drives with up to three external expansion enclosures. It also offers flexible drive
configurations with the choice of 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch drive form factors, 10 K or 15 K rpm SAS and 7.2 K rpm NL
SAS hard disk drives (HDDs) and self-encrypting drives (SEDs), and SAS solid-state drives (SSDs). The S2200 can be
scaled up to 384 TB of raw storage capacity.

The S2200 supports Intelligent Real-time Tiering capabilities that help optimize system performance, reduce
costs, and simplify management. The base software includes the ability to move data dynamically between SAS
HDDs that are optimized for cost per IOPS and NL SAS HDDs that are optimized for cost per GB. With the optional
software license, the S2200 supports hybrid tiering across HDDs and SSDs.
The S2200 can be upgraded to the Lenovo Storage S3200 by replacing the RAID controllers in the controller
enclosure during a planned offline maintenance window without the need to migrate or move data and re-configure the attached hosts. The new S3200 RAID controller recognizes the array configuration and preserves the
controller’s host port parameters (for example, FC WWN).
The S2200 supports battery-free cache protection, which reduces maintenance costs and provides permanent
backup of unwritten cache data if there is a power failure.

The Lenovo® Storage S3200 (shown in the following figure) is a versatile storage system that is designed to provide simplicity, speed, scalability, security, and high availability for small to large businesses. The S3200 SAN array
delivers enterprise-class storage management technology in a cost-effective solution with a wide choice of host
connectivity options, flexible drive configurations, and enhanced data management features.
The S3200 is a perfect fit for for a wide range of workloads, from specialized workloads such as big data and
analytics, video surveillance, media streaming, and private clouds to general purpose workloads such as file and
print serving, web serving, e-mail and collaboration, and OLTP databases. The S3200 is also suited very well for
secure archive storage or a consolidated backup solution.

The S3200 offers the flexible choice of storage connectivity protocols: 6/12 Gb SAS, 1 Gb or 10 Gb iSCSI, and

The Flex System® Fabric EN4093R 10Gb Scalable Switch provides unmatched scalability, port flexibility and performance, while also delivering innovations to help address a number of networking concerns today and providing capabilities that will help you prepare for the future. This switch is capable of supporting up to sixty-four 10
Gb Ethernet connections while offering Layer 2/3 switching, in addition to OpenFlow and “easy connect” modes.
It is designed to install within the I/O module bays of the Flex System Enterprise Chassis. This switch can help clients migrate to a 10 Gb or 40 Gb Ethernet infrastructure and offers cloud ready virtualization features like Virtual
Fabric and VMready® in addition to being Software Defined Network (SDN) ready. The EN4093R switch is shown
in Figure 1.

Did you know?
The base switch configuration comes standard with 24x 10 GbE port licenses that can be assigned to internal
connections or external SFP+ or QSFP+ ports with flexible port mapping. For example, this feature allows you to
trade off four 10 GbE ports for one 40 GbE port (or vice versa) or trade off one external 10 GbE SFP+ port for one
internal 10 GbE port (or vice versa). You then have the flexibility of turning on more ports when you need them
using Lenovo’s Features on Demand upgrade licensing capabilities that provide “pay as you grow” scalability
without the need to buy additional hardware.

The EN4093R is cloud ready with support for VM aware networking and advanced NIC virtualization technologies
such as Unified Fabric Port (UFP). In addition, the switch offers different operational modes - from “easy connect” transparent networking connectivity to Layer 3 functionality - to satisfy diverse client networking requirements. The EN4093R switch is SDN ready with support for OpenFlow.

The EN4093R switch is initially licensed for 24x 10 GbE ports. Further ports can be enabled with Upgrade 1 and

The switch does not include a serial management cable. However, Flex System Management Serial Access Cable,
90Y9338, is supported and contains two cables, a mini-USB-to-RJ45 serial cable and a mini-USB- to-DB9 serial
cable, either of which can be used to connect to the switch locally for configuration tasks and firmware updates.

95Y3309 is the part number for the base physical device, and it comes with 14 internal 10 GbE ports enabled
(one to each compute node) and ten external 10 GbE ports enabled.
49Y4798 (Upgrade 1) can be applied on the base switch when you take full advantage of four-port adapter cards
installed in each compute node. This upgrade enables 14 additional internal ports, for a total of 28 ports. The
upgrade also enables two 40 GbE external ports. This upgrade requires the base switch.
88Y6037 (Upgrade 2) can be applied on top of the Upgrade 1 when you need more external bandwidth on the
switch or if you need additional internal bandwidth to the compute nodes with the six-port capable adapter
cards. The upgrade will enable the remaining four external 10 GbE external ports, plus 14 additional internal 10
GbE ports, for a total of 42 internal ports (three to each compute node).
Flexible port mapping: With Networking OS version 7.8 or later clients have more flexibility in assigning ports
that they have licensed on the EN4093R which can help eliminate or postpone the need to purchase upgrades.
While the base model and upgrades still activate specific ports, flexible port mapping provides clients with the
capability of reassigning ports as needed by moving internal and external 10 GbE ports, or trading off four 10
GbE ports for the use of an external 40 GbE port. This is very valuable when you consider the flexibility with the
base license and with Upgrade 1.
Note: Flexible port mapping is not available in Stacking mode.

The CN4093 offers up to 12 external Omni Ports, which provide extreme flexibility with the choice of SFP+ based
10 Gb Ethernet connectivity or 4/8 Gb Fibre Channel connectivity, depending on the SFP+ module used.
The base switch configuration comes standard with 22x 10 GbE port licenses that can be assigned to internal
connections or external SFP+, Omni, or QSFP+ ports with flexible port mapping. For example, this feature allows
customers to trade off four 10 GbE ports for one 40 GbE port (or vice versa) or trade off one external 10 GbE
SFP+ or Omni port for one internal 10 GbE port (or vice versa). Customers then have the flexibility of turning on
more ports when needed by using Lenovo Features on Demand upgrade licensing capabilities that provide “pay
as you grow” scalability without the need to buy more hardware.

between vNICs, the switch uses the capabilities of its Networking Operating System. For large-scale virtualization, the Flex System solution can support up to 48 vNICs by using a pair of CN4058S 10Gb Virtual Fabric
Adapters in each compute node and four CN4093 10Gb Converged Scalable Switches in the chassis.
