S-Series S60 Top-of-Rack GbE Switch
The Force10 S-Series S60 is the industry’s first GbE top-of-rack (ToR) switch purpose-built for increasing
network performance and lowering operational costs at the rack edge in highly virtualized data center
network environments. Equipped with ultra-deep packet buffering, buffer allocation “tunability” and
non-blocking, line-rate switching, the S60 eliminates the network congestion at the I/O associated with
heavy use of server virtualization as well as bursty streaming and storage applications.
Answering Data Center Challenges
The S60 was designed to answer the key ToR performance, configuration flexibility, power and cooling
efficiency, and reliability challenges. The scalable, compact S60 switch provides 48 GbE ports and up to
four optional 10 GbE uplinks in just 1-RU to conserve valuable rack space. In addition, the S60 introduces
the new “JumpStart” bare metal auto-configuration feature to simplify ToR switch provisioning and help
customers drive standardization in their data centers. The S60 design is also purpose-built for data center
operations, supporting front-to-back or back-to-front airflow, redundant hot-swappable power supplies and
fans, and low power consumption to reduce energy costs and increase reliability.

– 2-port 12 Gbps stacking module
– 1-port 24 Gbps stacking module
• Ultra-deep packet buffering (1.25 GB) eliminates congestion associated with bursty multimedia and
storage applications
