PowergridM from AJPS is comprised of
a set of modular common power
components that can be configured
and re-configured to meet the
requirements of nearly any mobile,
deployable, or harsh environment
application. The PowerGridM design
utilizes the latest advancements in
power management technologies to
dramatically enhance the operational
flexibility and performance of
deployed systems to include advanced
computer controlled inverters, auto
sensing and switching AC/DC input
power controls, advanced Lithium Iron
Phosphate (LIP) battery technology,
Ethernet-based SNMP status
monitoring, and global AC/DC power
input capabilities.
Intelligent Stacking Capability: The
PowergridM design is based on
advanced inverter designs that
incorporates a power communications
bus structure to allow multiple
inverters to communicate and work
together as a single unit. This power
communications link allows multiple
inverters to maintain their joint
synchronization, perform load
balancing, and manage harmonic
distortion. When stack configured, all
attached inverters will work as a single
unit responding to the demands of the
attached equipment load. This design
feature allows a user to configure
stacks from single string to highly
resilient N+ no-fail integrated power
management systems. Stacking can
be accomplished with both standard
cabling and distribution blocks, and by
using the PowergridM Rugged
Backplane Module (BPM).
Back Plane Module(BPM): For
Integrated stacking, AJPS has
created the first UPS back
plane system. The BPM is a
fully ruggedized plug-and-play
consolidation backplane for the
intelligent stacking of both
PowergridM UPS and Battery
Expansion Modules (BXM).
Back Plane Modules come in
both 24VDC and 48VDC
versions ranging from 3 slot up
to 15 slot units allowing for
integrated stack designs from
800 to 18,000 watts. Available
slots on the BPM are hot swap
agnostic connections and will
accept either a UPS, BXM, or
DC Power Supply. You simply
plug a BPM ready PowergridM
module into an available slot
and it instantly integrates itself
into the operational stack. All
power and data cable
interconnects are consolidated
on the rear panel eliminating
the need for redundant
cabling. Specially designed
brackets allow for module
remove and replace activities
from the front without the
need to access the rear of the
system. Providing a ease of
maintenance not before seen
before in the rugged UPS
market.

Advanced Battery Technology: The
PowerGridM design is based on the
utilization of advanced Lithium Iron
Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries in a
proprietary “Cold Pak” design that
significantly reduces the overall
weight and provides a significant
advancements in the efficiency,
reliability, safety, and operational
life of the power management
system. On full rapid discharge the
Cold Pak modules will exhibit less
than 10o rise over ambient air
temperature compared to the
average 50o+ rise of lead acid and
other Lithium chemistries. Our
Cold Pak battery modules
represent a 5:1 reduction in size
and weight over normal UPS
batteries with a storage shelf life
(charged or un-charged) of 10 to 20
years. Our LIP battery packs are
designed for Hot Swap regardless
of operational state and are rated
conservatively for over 2,000
charge / re-charge cycles without
degradation in chemistry. The
PowergridM battery packs exhibit a
very high level of thermal and
chemical stability eliminating the
potential for ignition or thermal
runaway, decomposition at high
temperatures, and no caustic or
hazardous material concerns.

PowergridM Integrated Power Management Stack
input to a vehicle. PowergridM is
equipped with “auto-sensing”
and “auto-switching” circuits
such that if PowergridM senses
that the AC feed is starting to
fail, it will automatically sense
the VDC vehicle connection and
switch over to the DC source
without going to batteries or
disrupting equipment. If the VAC
source comes back on line,
PowergridM will automatically
switch back to the VAC source.
Each power transition is alarm
reported to the operator. This
feature provides the user with a
level of power resiliency that
exists in no other design.
Global Input Power – AC&DC: The
PowergridM design is unique within
the UPS market, in that PowergridM
is an “any-power, any-where” based
design. It will accept VAC input
power from 100 to 264 VAC and
from 47 to 440 Hz covering any AC
power configuration either in fixed
plant or generator in the world. It
will also accept from 20-32 or 41-56
VDC (depending on model) input
power from any VDC source
including vehicles, VDC generators,
green power sources, and fuel
cells. PowergridM ‘s uniqueness
comes from its ability to connect to
both sources at the same time. For
example, you can connect the AC
input to an AC generator and the DC
In-Rush/Surge Management:
PowergridM is designed to manage
in-rush demands. Each UPS unit is
capable of supplying up to 2X its
rated wattage for short durations.
Each unit is equipment with dual
interlocked protection circuits for
both temperature and over
voltage. When in system startup,
PowergridM will supply up to twice
its rated power until the internal
temperature reaches an alarm level
at which time it will trip the
protection circuits and cut the
power back to a safe level. The
over voltage duration is a factor of
power load and air temperature
but is designed to meet the startup
requirements of most systems.
