Primary Backroom Server
Primary Backroom Server
The primary backroom server is an HP ProLiant DL140 G3 server that comes installed with an
8-port serial card (which is used to connect to an ALI database modem, a CAD system, a CDR
output device) and a fax modem card.
The primary server runs these software components:
Š
Telephony Server: Receives ALI from the CO through the ALI database modem.
Š
Alarm Server: Manages alarm signalling through a digital I/O box connected to the server’s
USB port.
Š
ALI Server: Manages automatic and manual requests for ALI lookup.
Š
CAD Router: Provides NENA-compliant output to third-party CAD systems.
A printer for CDR output connects to the CDR port on the serial card.
A secondary backroom server is required for fault-tolerance.
The primary backroom server is also known as the “pots” server, and is identified within the
system as pots-srv.

Positron Gateway Shelf
The Positron Gateway shelf holds up to three CAMA Interface Modules (CIMs) or three
Administrative Interface Modules (AIMs). Trunk and line interfacing is done through a 25-pair
Amphenol cable that runs to a 66-pin punchblock at the back of the shelf.

CIMs perform trunk signalling, decode ANI, and forward ANI to the backroom server. In
VoIP systems, CIMs send VoIP signals to the LAN through an Ethernet port. In Meridian
and Avaya systems, CIMs output analog signals to the PBX.
Š
In VoIP systems, AIMs perform FXO signalling, and caller ID decoding.
VIPER does not support enhanced caller ID (Caller ID Deluxe). Make sure that this feature is
disabled for incoming lines.
