Objectives
Language Arts
To introduce students to the vocabulary of
the Olympic Games
Olympic Lingo
To recognize the relationship between the
Olympic Games, sports and physical education
activities
Introduce “Olympic Lingo” as a Bingo-type game activity.
Give each student
one “Olympic Lingo” card
The game caller’s words will come from the “Olympic Games Vocabu-
lary List” and should be typed or legibly printed for a random draw.
The caller should select words until a player has matched the words in
a row (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) on a card and yells out “Lingo.”
Students may play as individuals or in pairs. The winner(s) may receive
prizes or may become the game caller.
Optional
Students may make additional “Olympic Lingo” cards as
vocabulary increases.
Theme “Olympic Lingo” cards may be created that use only
the vocabulary of specific sports (e.g. all basketball words)
Vocabulary words may be used for consonant/vowel
activities.
Materials
“Olympic Lingo” game cards
Have winner(s) use vocabulary words in sentences.
Vocabulary cards
Teams of players may compete against each other
Bingo markers
