INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
The Saddlemen Trunk Chap is designed to mount to Harley-DavidsonTM FLH-type
rear trunks.
IMPORTANT: The following recommendations are for a typical installation on
a motorcycle using the supplied self-adhesive, hook and loop fastener strips.
Since the trunk’s design permits a variety of accessory configurations such
as back-rest pads, racks or speaker enclosures, you (or your professional
motorcycle technician) will need to determine the best way to attach the trunk
chap to your vehicle.
2
1
Do not mount the trunk chap to your motorcycle in a way that will cause it to
damage and/or interfere with the vehicle’s lights, suspension, wheels or other
components.
Remove any accessory items, such as the passenger back-rest pad 1 or rack 2,
from the lid of the trunk.
Use the appropriate hand tools to remove the pad and rack’s mounting hardware
3 from the trunk.
NOTE: Be careful when removing accessories from the trunk you do not damage its painted surface. Use care when the trunk lid open so you do not disconnect the lid lanyard from its mounting plate 4. With the lanyard disconnected, the trunk could be damaged if the lid overextends or closes unexpectedly.
With all of the accessories removed from the trunk lid 5, clean and polish the
trunk’s painted surface.

3
5
NOTE: Do not mount the trunk chap if there is dirt or debris on the trunk.
Dirt or debris left between the trunk chap and the lid could cause damage
to the painted surface.
NOTE: If you are adding any new accessories to your trunk, mount them
at this step. Do not mount new accessories to a trunk that has the chap
already installed. Remove the chap before laying out or installing any
new accessories.
6
Place the chap on the trunk lid so you are familiar with its mounting orientation.
NOTE: Make sure the hole in the chap aligns with the trunk lock 6 on the
right side of the trunk.

OTHER ACCESSORIES UNTIL YOU HAVE ADJUSTED THE MOUNTING TABS
SO THE CHAP IS FITTED SNUG AND SMOOTH ON THE LID OF YOUR TRUNK.
AN
NOTE: Do not mount new accessories to a trunk that has the chap already
installed. Remove the chap before laying out or installing any new accessories.
Once you are absolutely certain that the chap is installed in the proper location, and
is snug and smooth on your motorcycle’s trunk, you can modify the chap so you can
mount other accessories.
AM
Use a sharp awl AM to poke through the center of existing accessory mounting
hole AN.
Use a utility knife AO to score an “X” on the hole you created with the awl.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS (continued):
AP
Manually thread the rack’s mounting bolts AP through the each hole you have made
in the chap. Replace the rack and hand tighten the hardware.
Replace the passenger back-pad or speaker enclosures, and hand tighten the mounting hardware.
NOTE: Once all of the trunk’s accessories have been reinstalled (with the
hardware hand-tight only) over the chap, check the chap for alignment and
smoothness one last time. Make any adjustments by loosening accessory
mounting hardware and/or the chap’s mounting tabs.
Once you are satisfied with the chap’s fit, tighten the accessory mounting
hardware securely.
IMPORTANT: Failure to install this accessory properly may cause it to become
loose and contact the vehicle’s moving parts. It is vital that you verify that the
mounting of the trunk chap is secure and that it cannot come loose or touch,
and/or interfere with other components as the suspension moves through its
entire stroke.
Be aware that the installation of this trunk chap or other accessories can
affect the handling of your motorcycle. Pay attention as you ride your vehicle
after installing new accessories as its handling characteristics may have
changed.
After 50 miles (80 kilometers) of riding, recheck that the chap’s mounting tabs
are still secure. Inspect the trunk chap and related accessories before each
ride. A loose trunk chap can interfere with your vehicle’s operation and cause
an unsafe riding condition.
