Nexio® Motion Server v4.7
Installation and Configuration Guide
Overview
Overview
About this Document
This Installation Guide describes how to install and configure Nexio® Motion Server 4.5. This
process applies to all versions of Nexio Motion Server 4.5, unless otherwise documented.
Application and Database Servers
This guide is based on an environment that has four servers: three application servers (Server
API, Core Services, and Device Manager Service) and a database server. If Nexio Motion Server
is installed on less than four servers, all of the installation steps should be applied to the server
that has multiple Nexio Motion Server component installed, unless otherwise noted.
Before You Begin
IMPORTANT: Before installing Nexio® Insight Server, uninstall any previous versions of the
product.
IMPORTANT: Nexio Motion 4.5 can be installed without the Nexio® Insight App Server. In turn,
this allows Nexio Motion to run on SQL Express (for small systems).
Domain Accounts
The following domain accounts are necessary to install and configure Nexio Insight Server. The
actual account names may be defined by the installer.
[domain]\[Administrator] – This account is a member of the Administrators group within the
specified domain. The installer uses this account to log on to the servers and install the Nexio
Motion Server software.
[domain]\[Motion] – This account is a member of the Users group, Performance Monitor Users
group, and Administrators group within the specified domain. The installer uses this account to
run Windows services that are created for Nexio Insight components, as well as to configure
components
The following accounts are referenced in later sections of this guide. These values are provided
for demonstration purposes only: ‘DOMAIN\Administrator’ and ‘DOMAIN\Motion.

Installation and Configuration Guide
Overview
Running Motion without Nexio Insight
If no Invenio Endpoint is specified during configuration, Motion works without authentication
(i.e. arbitrary credentials can be used). For configuration details see Motion4 Operations
Reference.
Tools folders
During installation a number of tools are installed for later use with Motion 4. These are located
in the following folders:

C:\Program Files\Imagine Communications\Motion\Server\database.tools
•

Database Configuration tool (dbconfig.exe)
C:\Program Files\Imagine Communications\Motion\Server\server.tools
•
Motion Server Configuration utility (serverconfig.exe.)
•
Batch files: StopAllServices.bat and StartAllServices.bat are used to start or stop all the
Motion4 services. These batch files only work when the services are installed/registered
as services.
•
REST service: The configuration executable (restaipconfig application icon.) is included
in the server.tools folder. Configuration requires providing the Motion Url, Motion user,
password, logpath, and REST Service listening port.

About Database Keys and Description Column
With Motion v4.5 and higher, by default the configuration Database tables are populated with
all possible keys used by the system. They also have a Description column describing each
setting and its value boundaries.
About the IsSystem column: IsSystem means that the server uses that setting only and the
server doesn't allow to get or change that setting through the client API.
(e.g.:MaintenanceMode, only the server can put itself into maintenance mode and can step out
from that.)
