Connecting to the Network
The Wired Network Connection
There are three ways to attach your TV
to your LAN using cable:
NN For illustrations of the three kinds of
wired network connections, see your
paper user's manual.
–– You can attach your TV to your
LAN by connecting the LAN port on
the back of your TV to an external
modem using a LAN cable.
–– You can attach your TV to your LAN
by connecting the LAN port on the
back of your TV to a router which
is connected to an external modem.
Use LAN cable for the connection.
–– You may be able to attach your TV
to your LAN by connecting the LAN
port on the back of your TV directly
to a network wall outlet using a
LAN cable. Note that the wall outlet
is attached to a modem or router
elsewhere in your house.
NN If your network requires a Dynamic
IP address, you should use an ADSL
modem or router that supports the
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
(DHCP). Modems and routers that
support DHCP automatically provide
the IP address, subnet mask,
gateway, and DNS values your TV
needs to access the Internet so you
do not have to enter them manually.
Most home networks use a Dynamic
IP address.
NN Some networks require a Static IP
address. If your network requires a
Static IP address, you must enter the
IP address, subnet mask, gateway,
and DNS values manually when you
set up the network connection. To
get the IP address, subnet mask,
gateway, and DNS values contact
your Internet Service Provider (ISP). If
you have a Windows computer, you
can also get these values through
your computer.
NN You can use ADSL modems that
support DHCP if your network
requires a Static IP address. ADSL
modems that support DHCP also let
you use Static IP addresses.
The Wireless Network Connection
NN For an illustration of the wireless
network connection, see your paper
user's manual.
You can connect your TV to your LAN
through a standard wireless router or
modem.
This TV supports the IEEE 802.11a/b/g
and n communication protocols.
Samsung recommends using IEEE
802.11n. When you play video over a
network connection, the video may not
play smoothly.
NN To use a wireless network, your TV
must be connected to a wireless
router or modem. If the wireless
router or modem supports DHCP,
your TV can use a DHCP or static IP
address to connect to the wireless
network.
NN Select a channel on the wireless
router or modem that is not currently
being used. If the channel set for the
wireless router or modem is currently
being used by another device nearby,
this will result in interference and
communication failure.
NN Your TV supports only the following
wireless network security protocols:
–– Authentication Mode: WEP,
WPAPSK, WPA2PSK
–– Encryption Type: WEP, TKIP, AES
NN If you select the Pure High-
throughput (Greenfield) 802.11n
mode and the Encryption type
is set to WEP, TKIP or TKIP AES
(WPS2Mixed) on your AP (access
point) or wireless router, Samsung
TVs will not support a connection
in compliance with new Wi-Fi
certification specifications.
NN If your wireless router or modem
supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected
Setup), you can connect to the
network via PBC (Push Button
Configuration) or a PIN (Personal
Identification Number). WPS will
automatically configure the SSID and
WPA key in either mode.
NN If your router, modem, or device is
not certified, it may not connect to
the TV.
NN Connection Methods: You can set up
the wireless network connection in
four ways:
–– Using Auto Setup (with the Auto
Network Search function)
–– Using Manual Setup
–– Using WPS(PBC)
–– Using Plug & Access

Listening through a Receiver
You can listen to sound through a
receiver (i.e. Home Theatre) instead
of the TV Speaker. To listen to sound
through a receiver, go to Receiver
screen (System → Anynet+ (HDMICEC) → Receiver). Then select Receiver
and set to On.
NN If your receiver supports audio
only, it may not appear in the
device list.
NN The receiver will work when you
have properly connected the
optical in jack of the receiver to
the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL)
port of the TV.
NN When the receiver (i.e. Home
Theatre) is set to on, you can
hear sound output from the TV’
s Optical jack. When the TV is
displaying a DTV (air) signal, the
TV will send out 5.1 channel sound
to the receiver. When the source
is a digital component such as a
DVD player and it is connected
to the TV via HDMI, you will hear
only 2 channel sounds from the
receiver.
Using the ARC function
You can listen to sound from the TV
through a receiver connected using
an HDMI cable without connecting
a separate optical cable. To listen to
sound through a receiver using the ARC
function, go to Receiver screen (System
→ Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) → Receiver).
Then select Receiver and set to On.
NN To use the ARC function, a receiver
which supports the HDMI-CEC and
ARC features must be connected to
the HDMI IN 2 (ARC) port.
NN To disable the ARC function,
set the Receiver to Off. Even if
the TV transmits the ARC signal
continuously, the receiver will be
blocked from receiving the signal.

If the test image is properly displayed,
the poor picture may caused by the
source or signal.
The TV image does not look as good as it
did in the store.
ŒŒ If you have an analogue cable / set
top box, upgrade to a digital set top
box. Use HDMI or Component cables
to deliver HD (high definition) picture
quality.
ŒŒ Cable / Satellite subscribers: Try HD
stations from the channel line up.
ŒŒ Aerial connection: Try HD stations
after performing Auto programme.
NN Many HD channels are up scaled
from SD(Standard Definition)
contents.
ŒŒ Adjust the Cable/Set top box video
output resolution to 1080i or 720p.
ŒŒ Make sure you are watching the
TV at the minimum recommended
distance based on the size and
definition of the signal.
The picture is distorted: macro block error,
small block, dots, pixelization
ŒŒ Compression of video contents may
cause picture distortion especially in
fast moving pictures such as sports
and action movies.
ŒŒ Low signal level or bad quality can
cause picture distortion. This is not a
TV issue.
ŒŒ Mobile phones used close to the TV
(cca up to 1m) may cause noise in
picture on analogue and digital TV.
Colour is wrong or missing.
ŒŒ If you’re using a component
connection, make sure the
component cables are connected
to the correct jacks. Incorrect or
loose connections may cause colour
problems or a blank screen.
There is poor colour or brightness.
ŒŒ Adjust the Picture options in the
TV menu (go to Picture / Colour /
Brightness / Sharpness)
ŒŒ Adjust Energy Saving option in the
TV menu (go to Menu → System →

may caused by the source or signal.
There is no sound or the sound is too low
at maximum volume.
ŒŒ Please check the volume the of
external device connected to your
TV.
The picture is good but there is no sound.
ŒŒ Set the Speaker Select option to TV
Speaker in the sound menu.
ŒŒ If you are using an external device,
make sure the audio cables are
connected to the correct audio input
jacks on the TV.
ŒŒ If you are using an external device,
check the device’s audio output
option (ex. you may need to change
your cable box’s audio option
to HDMI when you have a HDMI
connected to your TV).
ŒŒ If you are using a DVI to HDMI cable,
a separate audio cable is required.
ŒŒ If your TV has a headphone jack,
make sure there is nothing plugged
into it.
The speakers are making an inappropriate
noise.
ŒŒ Check the cable connections. Make
sure a video cable is not connected
to an audio input.
ŒŒ For aerial or cable connections,
check the signal strength. Low signal
level may cause sound distortion.

ŒŒ Check cable connections (remove
and reconnect all cables connected
to the TV and external devices).
ŒŒ Set your external devices’ (Cable /
Set top Box, DVD, Blu-ray etc) video
outputs to match the connections
to the TV input. For example, if an
external device’s output is HDMI,
it should be connected to an HDMI
input on the TV.
ŒŒ Make sure your connected devices
are powered on.
ŒŒ Be sure to select the TV’s correct
source by select Source using your
remote.
This file may not be playable properly.
ŒŒ This may appear because of high bit
rate of content. Content generally
will play but could experience some
playability issue.
