Always read and obey all safety messages. This is the safety alert symbol. All safety messages will identify the hazard, tell you how to reduce the chance of injury, and tell you what can happen if the instructions are not followed. 4 Introduction Important Safety Instruction WARNING To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons when using your product, basic safety precautions should be followed, including the following. Read all instructions before using this appliance. 1. When connecting the power A dedicated outlet should be used. • Using several devices at one outlet may cause fire. • If unit is connected to an earth leakage breaker it may trip resulting in spoiled food. Do not allow the power plug to face upward or to be crushed at the back of the fridge-freezer. If the cord is crushed behind the refrigerator it may damage the cable resulting in fire. An upward facing plug may pull loose under the weight of the cord resulting in electrical failure causing fire or the fridge turning off and spoiling food. Prevent the power cord from being crushed or kinked if the refrigerator is pushed in after the power plug is extracted during the installation. Crushed or kinked cables can become the cause of fire or electric shock. When moving your appliance away from the wall, be careful not to roll over or damage the power cord. Do not allow heavy objects to kink or crush the power cord. It may damage the power cord and become a cause of fire or electric shock. 5 Introduction Important Safety Instruction Do not extend or modify the length of the power plug. This may become the cause of fire or electric shock. Unplug the power plug when cleaning, handling or replacing the interior lamp of the fridge-freezer. • It may cause electric shock or injury. • When replacing the interior lamp of the fridge-freezer, make sure that the insulating rubber ring within the socket is not taken off. Do not pull out the cord or touch the power plug with wet hands. It may cause electric shock or injury. Remove water or dust from the power plug and insert it with the ends of the pins securely connected. Dust, water or unstable connection may cause fire or electric shock. Do not disconnect by pulling on the cord. Always disconnect by grasping and pulling on the plug top. Pulling on the cable may damage the cable resulting in electric shock or fire. 6 Introduction Important Safety Instruction Make sure of grounding. Consult a qualified electrician or service person if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if you have doubts on whether the appliance is properly grounded. Incorrect grounding may lead to electric shock in the event of a breakdown. Always have unit grounded in accordance with local regulations. If incorrectly grounded it may become the cause of a fire. Always supervise children when they are near the refrigerator. 7 More than 30 inches Introduction Important Safety Instruction Prevent children from entering the product. It may endanger the life of a child if the child enters the refrigerator. Take care when opening and closing the refrigerator doors. Vigorous opening or closing may cause the contents to topple out resulting in injury or damage. Do not install the refrigerator in a damp or wet environment. Moisture may penetrate electrical components resulting in fire or electric shock. Do not store or use Inflammable materials in or around the refrigerator. It may become the cause of an explosion or fire. Do not use or place heated or flame based scented products (Such as scented candles or incent burners) in the fridge to deodorise. It may become the cause of an explosion or fire. 8 Introduction Important Safety Instruction Do not store medicine or academic materials in the fridge-freezer. If materials with strict temperature restrictions, such as medicines, are stored, they may deteriorate or react undesirably resulting in possible harm or risk. Do not use any combustible spray near the fridgefreezer. It may become the cause of an explosion or fire. Avoid any heating devices. Install in places away from any flame. Such as fireplaces, heaters and ovens. Pay particular attention to avoid locating near gas related products. It may become the cause of an explosion or fire. Do not place flower vases, cups, cosmetics, medicine or any container with water on the fridge-freezer. It may fall, leak or spill resulting in possible electric shock or fire. In case of a heavy electrical storm or if unit is not to be used for a long period of time, disconnect the power plug. There is a possibility for electrical damage. This may lead to an electric shock or fire. 9 Introduction Important Safety Instruction DO NOT use a water damaged unit until it has been certified safe by a licensed electrician or similarly qualified person. It may be the cause of an electric shock or fire. When gas is leaked, do not touch the fridge/freezer or the outlet and ventilate the room immediately. • The explosion by spark may cause fire or burn. • Because this fridge/freezer uses natural gas (isobutene, R600a) as the environment-friendly refrigerant, even a small amount (80~90g) is combustible. When the gas is leaked by the severe damage during delivering, installing or using the fridge/freezer, any spark may cause fire or burn. Do not spray water on either the inside or outside of the refrigerator. Do not use alcohol or mineral based cleaners on the refrigerator (such as Benzene or Thinners). These may deteriorate or penetrate the insulation or electrical components resulting in possible electric shock, fire or damage to refrigerator. When any strange smell or smoke is detected from the fridge-freezer, disconnect the power plug immediately and contact a service center. Continuing to run unit may result in Damage or fire. Service Center 10 Introduction Important Safety Instruction Do not allow any person except a qualified engineer to disassemble, repair or alter the fridgefreezer. It may cause injury, electric shock or fire. Do not use the fridge-freezer for non-domestic puposes (storing medicine or testing material, or use in a mobile application.) It may cause an unexpected risk such as fire, electric shock, deterioration of stored material or chemical reaction. When disposing the fridge-freezer, remove the doors from the refrigerator. Failure to do so may cause a child to become trapped inside. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. 11 Introduction Important Safety Instruction Install the fridge-freezer on a solid and level floor. Installing it in an unstable place may cause death by the refrigerator falling down when opening or closing the door. Do not insert hands or a metal object into the exit of cool air, the cover, the bottom of the fridgefreezer, the heatproof grill (exhaust hole) at the back. It may cause an electric shock or injury. CAUTION Violating this direction may cause injury or damage to house or contents. Always be careful, please. Do not touch food or containers in the freezer with wet hands. It may cause frostbite. Ensure that all foods and containers are stored or stacked in a stable manner. The food may fall during opening and closing of the door of the refrigerator and hurt people. Do not put filled bottles in the freezer. It may freeze the contents and break the bottle possibly resulting in injury. 12 Introduction Important Safety Instruction Do not insert hands into the bottom of the fridgefreezer. The iron plate at the bottom may cause injury. Carry the fridge-freezer with the handles at the bottom of the front and the top of the rear. Otherwise, your hands may slip possibly resulting in injury or product damage. Because the product is heavy, carrying it alone may hurt people or accidents may occur. Because opening or closing the door of the fridgefreezer may cause injury to other people around it, be careful, please. Opening both doors can result in fingers or hands being crushed in the small gap between the doors. Open doors could result in children being hurt by the corners of the doors (particularly the freezer door as lower edge might be out of line of site). Do not put any living animal in the fridge-freezer. 13 Introduction Important Safety Instruction Warning Precaution 14 • This fridge-freezer must be properly installed and located in accordance with the Installation Instruction before it is used. • Before you install this fridge-freezer refer to installation manual. • Never unplug your fridge-freezer by pulling on the power cord. Always grip plug firmly and pull straight out from the outlet. • After your fridge-freezer is in operation, do not touch the cold surfaces in the freezer compartment, particularly when hands are damp or wet. Skin may adhere to these extremely cold surfaces. • Pull out the power plug prior to cleaning the fridgefreezer. Never damage, serverely bend, pull out, or twist the power cord because power cord damage may cause a fire or electric shock. Never place glass products in the freezer because they may be broken when their inner contents are frozen. • Do not directly spray water inside or outside the fridge/freezer. There is a risk of explosion or fire. • Do not insert the power plug with wet hands. You may receive an electric shock. • Do not install the fridge/freezer in a damp place, where it could be splashed with water. Water may penetrate electrical components causing a risk of fire, electric shock or damage. Introduction Important Safety Instruction • • • Do not disassemble, repair or alter the appliance. It may cause fire or abnormal operations, which may lead to injury. Pull the power plug out of the socket before replacing the interior light in the refrigerator. Otherwise, there is a risk of electric shock. If possible, connect the fridge-freezer to its own individual electrical outlet to prevent it and other appliances or household lights from causing an overload. It will cause electric shock or fire. Do not modify or extend the Power Cord length Accessibility of Supply Plug The supply plug of the refrigerator-freezer should be placed in easy accessible position for quick disconnection in emergency. Supply Cord Replacement If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its service agent or a similarly qualified person in order to avoid a hazard. Improper use of the grounding plug can result in an electric shock. 15 Introduction Important Safety Instruction Warning Keep ventilation openings, in the appliance enclosure or in the built-in structure, clear of obstruction. Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting process, other than those recommended by the manufacturer. Do not damage the refrigerant circuit. Do not use electrical appliances inside the food storage compartments of the appliance, unless they are of the type recommended by the manufacturer. The refrigerant and insulation blowing gas used in the appliance require special disposal procedures. When disposal, please consult with a service agent or similarly qualified person. This appliance contains a small amount of isobutane refrigerant (R600a), natural gas with high environmental compatibility, but it is also combustible. When transporting and installing the appliance, care should be taken to ensure that no parts of the refrigerating circuit are damaged. Refrigerant squirting out of the pipes could ignite or cause an eye injury. If a leak is detected, avoid any naked flames or potential sources of ignition and air the room in which the appliance is standing for several minutes. In order to avoid the creation of a flammable gas air mixture if a leak in the refrigerating circuit occurs, the size of the room in which the appliance may be sited depends on the amount of refrigerant used. The room must be 1m2 in size for every 8g of R600a refrigerant inside the appliance. The amount of refrigerant in your particular appliance is shown on the identification plate inside the appliance. Never start up an appliance showing any signs of damage. If in doubt, consult your dealer. 16 Introduction Important Safety Instruction Caution 17 • If the wall socket is loose, do not insert the power plug. It may cause an electric shock or fire. • Never unplug your refrigerator by pulling on the power cord. Always grip plug firmly and pull it straight out from the outlet. You may disconnect a wire and cause a short circuit that could cause an electric shock or fire. • Do not use a wet or damp cloth when cleaning the plug. Remove any foreign matter from the power plug pins. Otherwise, there is a risk of fire. • Do not put your hands into the bottom area of the appliance. Any Sharp edges may cause personal injury. • After unplugging the appliance, wait for at least five minutes before plugging it again to the wall socket. Abnormal operation of the freezer may cause material damage. • If the appliance is not to be used for a long time, pull out the power plug. Any deterioration in the insulation may cause fire. • Do not let children touch or play with the control panel on the front of the appliance. • The refrigerant used in a fridge/freezer and the gases in the insulation material require special disposal procedures. Ensure that none of the pipes on the back of the appliances are damaged prior to disposal. Super Freezer 3SECS Power Temperature Adjustment Button for Freezer Compartment 19 POWER Operation Power • If you push button more than 3 seconds you can switch on or off the Freezer. POWER 3SECS How to adjust the temperature in the freezer compartment • The initial Temperature of the Freezer Compartment is -23°C and -15°C respectively. You can now adjust the temperature of the compartments as you want. • Note When you press the temperature control button, the temperature of the Freezer part is change by 1 degree. The actual inner temperature varies depending on the food status, as the indicated setting temperature is a target temperature, not actual temperature within freezer. Refrigeration function is weak in the initial time. Please adjust temperature as above after using freezer for minimum 2~3 days. 20 Operation Super Feezer • • • Please select this function for prompt freezer. This function is used when you want to freeze the foods quickly. Press the SUPER FRZ (Super Freezer) button once, and then the quick freeze operation starts with the lamp it. The Super Freeze operation takes about 3 hours. When its operation ends, it automatically returns to the previous temperature setting. If you want to stop the quick freeze operation, press the SUPER FRZ button once more, the lamp goes out, and the Super Freeze operation stops and the freezer returns to the previous temperature setting. SUPER FRZ. SUPER FRZ. SUPER FRZ. In selecting "On" In selecting "Off" This function allows you to check for operational problems. If you think you have a problem with your freezer, then press the temperature control button: Self Test - If the indicate lights move up or down, then there is no problem with your freezer. - If the indicate lights do not move up or down, then please leave the power connected and call your nearest service agent. When the door of the freezer is left open for a while, the alarm sounds. Door Alarm 21 Operation Ice Making • • Fill water in ice making tray. Only fill with enough water to maintain individual blocks, if over filled blocks will not separate properly and water may spill into ice bin clumping ice together. Ice will be dropped into the ice storage bin by rotating ice separation handle of ice making compartment. • Note Defrosting • • 22 Rotating the ice separation handle before ice is fully frozen may cause the remaining water to drop into the ice storage bin and clump ice together. Defrosting takes place automatically. The defrosting water flows down to the evaporating tray and is evaporated automatically. Suggestions on food storage About Ice 1. Fill water up to the level line of the ice-making tray. - It is hard to remove ice if water is full. - When you want to freeze ice quickly, select "Quick freezing". The level line 2. Twist the ice-making tray to remove ice. - Do not store the not completely frozen ice. - Do not bend the ice-making tray. It may break. - Do not make ice with the ice-storing bin. It may break. How to store food properly Open the cover to take out food. Freezer shelf Place the frozen food such as meat, fish, frozen bun and ice cream here. Ice-maker 23 Suggestions on food storage Storing Food Caution • • • • • • • • • • • Do not store food which goes bad easily at low temperature, such as banana, and melon. Allow hot food to cool prior to storing. Placing hot food in the freezer could spoil other food, and lead to higher electric bills. When storing the food, use a container with a lid. This prevents moisture from evaporating, and helps food to keep its taste and nutrients. Do not block air vents with food. Smooth circulation of cold air keeps freezer temperature even. Do not open the door frequently. Opening the door lets warm air enter the freezer, and cause the temperature to rise. Never keep too many foods in door rack, as this may stop the door from fully closing. Do not store bottles in the freezer compartment, Miracle Zone or snack bin they may break when frozen. Do not refreeze food that has been thawed. This causes loss of taste and nutrition. Do not store pharmaceutical products, scientific materials or other temperature sensitive products in the freezer. Products that require strict temperature controls must not be stored in the freezer. If you want to quick freeze new food, you put it middle drawer of freezer compartment, and then press the Super Freezer button. Do not put in front of the air hole of the upper drawer of freezer compartment. It could decrease freezer capacity. If you keep the freezer in a hot, and humid place, frequently open its door or put a lot of vegetables in it, dew may form in it, which has no effect on its performance. Remove the dew with a lint free cloth. Note 24 Care and Maintenance General Information Power Failure • 1~2 hour power failure does no harm to the foods stored. Try to avoid opening and closing the door too frequently. If You Move • Take out foods from the freezer and firmly fix the loose shelves, draws and accessories with tape. Do not move the freezer by sliding. • Anti Condensation Pipe • • 25 The Anti-Condensation pipe is installed around the front side of freezer as well as on the partition between freezer compartment to prevent dewing. Especially after installation or when ambient temperature is high, the freezer may feel hot, which is quite normal. Care and Maintenance How to disassemble each component It can be possible to disassemble only when the door is opened by 90° or wider. Disassembling should be done by the reverse order of assembling. Lift up the shelf cover, and then slightly lift up and pull out the front of the shelf to remove. Upper shelf 1 3 2 Pull out the drawer, and then slightly lift up and pull out the front to remove. Lower drawer To Reverse the Doors • Caution 2 1 Your freezer is designed with reversible doors, so that they may open from either the left of right hand side to suit your kitchen design. However, When you want to reverse the doors, you must contact a service agent. Reversing the doors is not covered by the warranty. 26 Care and Maintenance Cleaning Be sure to unplug the power or shutdown the main switch in your house. Before Cleaning Clean the outside of the freezer with a hot damp cloth with or without cleaning detergent. If you use a detergent, be sure to wipe it with a clean wet cloth. Exterior As above. Interior After Cleaning Check that the power cord is not damaged, power plug has not overheated, and that the power plug is tightly inserted into the outlet. Warning Be sure to dry the appliance with a cloth after washing it with water. Do not use abrasive, petroleum, benzene, thinner, hydrochloride acid, boiling water, rough brush, etc, as they may damage parts of the freezer. 27 Trouble Shooting Before calling for service, check this list. It may save you both time and expense. This list includes common occurrences that are not the result of defective workmanship or materials in this appliance. Plug it in securely. House fuse has blown or circuit breaker has tripped. Check and/or replace fuse and reset circuit breaker. Power cut. Check other appliances in the house for operation. Temperature control not set on proper position. Refer to Temperature Control section. Appliance is placed close to heat source. Warm weather-frequent door openings. Door left open for a long time. Package holding door open or blocking air duct in freezer compartment. The floor on which the freezer is installed may be uneven or the freezer may be unstable. Level refrigerator by adjusting the leveling feet. Objects fallen or stored behind refrigerator. Door may have been left ajar or package holding door open. Door opened too frequently or for to long a period. Frost within package is normal. This phenomenon is likely to occur when installation location is in a high humidity or damp environment. Wipe it with a dry towel. Trouble Shooting Problem Possible Causes Moisture collects inside • Freezer has odor • • • • Door not closing properly • • • Interior light does not work • • Door opened too frequently or for to long a period. In humid weather, air carries moisture into freezer when doors are opened. Foods with strong odors should be tightly covered or wrapped. Check for spoiled food. Interior needs cleaning. Refer to CLEANING section. Food package is keeping door open. Move packages that stop door from closing. Freezer is not level. Adjust the leveling screws. The floor on which the freezer is installed may be uneven or the freezer may be unstable. Adjust leveling feet to create a slight tilt backwards on the refrigerator. No power at outlet. Light lamp needs replacing. Refer to the Lamp Replacement section DISPOSAL OF YOUR OLD APPLIANCE 1. When this crossed-out wheeled bin symbol is attached to a product it means the product is covered by the European Directive 2002/96/EC. 2. All electrical and electronic products should be disposed of separately from the municipal waste stream via designated collection facilities appointed by the government or the local authorities. 3. Note before installing Caution ■ Product must be installed in a location away from heat sources such as heaters and hot-water systems. Must also be installed in a location away from direct sunlight. Installation location must have adequate ventilation. ■ Prepare cabinetwork in accordance with the instructions to assure adequate ventilation. Be sure that the installation has unobstructed air flow into front air vent. If ventilation is not adequate the normal performance of the product may be impaired or prohibited. ■ Install the product in such a way to prevent the ingress of rodents and vermin as damage caused by them may result in fire. ■ Install the cabinet door to the refrigerator in such a way to maintain a 5mm gap between the edge of the cabinet door and any adjacent wall. ■ Use the specified dimensions for the Integrated door panels. Oversized integrated door panels may sag or cause interference with the correct operation of the product. ■ Check there is no lean on the product door after attaching the Integrated door panels. Check to see that the gasket of the fridge/freezer is properly attached. ■ Use Integrated panel material of sufficient strength to maintain integrity of support screw/bolts under the weight of the panels. i.e. don't use material that will allow the screws to be pulled out easily from the weight of the panels. ■ Use Cabinet material that is sealed and won't warp or twist from the heat generated by the product or from the moisture produced by opening and closing the refrigerator doors. ■ Make sure surrounding cabinet work is square (within 1mm of horizontal or vertical). Make sure the base plate that the product is placed on is of sufficient strength to not bow or warp under constant weight of the product. Insert the height adjusting nuts ⓓ (two spots at the bottom) onto the height adjusting screw, and then place the top bracket ⑩ of the integrated door panel onto the height adjusting screw of the top of the refrigerator door. Use the height adjusting nut to adjust the height of the integrated door panel and set the level. Use the wood screws ⓑ (four spots) to the depth adjusting bracket ⑦, move the integrated door panel in or out to adjust the depth gap to 4mm (See Figure 14, Figure 17), and secure the loosely fixed bracket screw ⓔ (Figure 1) to fix the depth adjusting bracket ⑦.
