CAUTION concerning the Power Cord
Most appliances recommend they be placed upon a dedicated circuit; That is, a

About the
Types of Playable Discs

Audio CD:
In addition, this unit can play a DVD±R/RW and CD-R or CD-RW that
contains audio titles, MP3, WMA, JPEG files.
Depending on the conditions of the recording equipment or the CD-R/RW
(or DVD±R/RW) disc itself, some CD-R/RW (or DVD±R/RW) discs may
not be played on the unit due to the recording quality or physical condition
of the disc, or the characteristics of the recording device and authoring
software. The disc will not play if it has not been correctly finalized. Player
does not support these kinds of discs.

Symbol Display
“ ” may appear on your TV display during operation and indicates that the
function explained in this owner’s manual is not available on that specific disc.
Regional Codes
This unit has a regional code printed on the rear of the unit. This unit can play
only DVD discs labeled same as the rear of the unit or “ALL”.
• Most DVD discs have a globe with one or more numbers in it clearly visible
on the cover. This number must match your unit’s regional code or the disc
cannot play.
• If you try to play a DVD with a different regional code from your player, the
message “Check Regional Code” appears on the TV screen.
Copyrights
It is forbidden by law to copy, broadcast, show, broadcast via cable, play in
public, or rent copyrighted material without permission. This product features
the copy protection function developed by Macrovision. Copy protection signals
are recorded on some discs. When recording and playing the pictures of these
discs picture noise will appear. This product incorporates copyright protection
technology that is protected by method claims of certain U.S. patents and other
intellectual property rights owned by Macrovision Corporation and other rights
owners. Use of this copyright protection technology must be authorized by
Macrovision Corporation, and is intended for home and other limited viewing
uses only unless otherwise authorized by Macrovision Corporation. Reverse
engineering or disassembly is prohibited.

Setting up
FM Telescopic Antenna
Pull the telescopic antenna out and adjust the
angle and direction for better reception.
The AC Power Cord Connection
1. Before connecting the AC power cord, check
that the operating voltage of your unit is
identical with the voltage of your mains label.
2. Connect one end of the AC power cord
(supplied) to the AC IN socket located at the
backside of your unit.
3. Plug the other end into the wall outlet.
Note:
Unplug the AC power cord from the wall outlet if
you do not to use for an extended period of time.

Use your player as an alarm clock
Press and hold TIMER for two seconds. Each function, TUNER, CD,
TAPE flashes for two seconds. Press SET when the function you want to
be woken by is showing.
If you choose TUNER, “PLAY” and “REC” flashes in the display window
alternately. Choose one of them by pressing the SET.
If you choose CD or TAPE you will be shown below.
You will be shown the ON TIME display. This is where you set the time
you want the alarm to go off. Use .or > to change the hours and
minutes and SET to save. You will then be shown the OFF TIME display.
This is where you set the time you want the function to stop. Use .or
> to change the hours and minutes and press SET to save.
Next you will be shown the volume (VOL) you want to be woken by.
Use .or > to change the volume and SET to save. Switch the system off. The clock icon shows that the alarm is set.
When the system is turned off you can check the time the alarm is set for
by pressing TIMER. You can also turn the alarm on and off by pressing
TIMER. To set the alarm to go off at a different time, switch the system on
and reprogramme following the same steps as initially.
Listening to the radio - more you can do
Look for radio stations automatically
Press TUNING(-) /TUNING(+ ) on the front panel (or press TUN.- /TUN.+
on the remote control) for more than 0.5 second. The tuner will scan automatically and stop when it finds a radio station.
Delete all the saved stations
Press and hold MEMORY for two seconds. “CLEAR” shows.
Press MEMORY to erase all the saved stations.
Choose a ‘preset number’ for a radio station
Select a station you want by pressing TUNING-/TUNING+ on the front
panel or TUN.- /TUN.+ on the remote control. Press MEMORY, the station
flashes. Press PRESET (+/-)on the remote control to select the preset
number you want. Press MEMORY to save it.
Improve poor FM reception
Press FM MODE This will change the tuner from stereo to mono and usually improve the reception.

TV Aspect – Select which screen aspect to use based on the shape of your TV
screen.
[4:3]: Select when a standard 4:3 TV is connected.
[16:9]: Select when a 16:9 wide TV is connected.
Display Mode – If you selected 4:3, you’ll need to define how you would like
widescreen programs and films to be displayed on your TV screen.
[Letterbox]: This displays a widescreen picture with black bands at the top
and bottom of the screen.
[Panscan]: This fills the entire 4:3 screen, cropping the picture as necessary.
Switch on XDSS (Extreme Dynamic Sound System)
DRC (Dynamic Range Control)
Press XDSS plus to reinforce treble, bass and the surround effect. The “XDSS ”
or “NORMAL” indicator lights.
The dynamic range (the difference between the loudest sound and the quietest
one) can be compressed during playback of a DVD encoded in Dolby Digital
format. This function takes effect when a DVD VIDEO disc recorded in Dolby
Digital format is played back at low or middle volume. Set DRC to On for this
effect.

PBC (Playback Control) – Playback control provides special navigation features that are available on some disc. Select [On] to use this feature.

You can choose 4 fixed sound impressions
Each time you press the button the setting changes in the display window as
shown below.
NORMAL → ROCK → POP → CLASSIC →NORMAL...
Adjust the language settings
Menu Language – Select a language for the Setup menu and on-screen display.
Disc Audio/Subtitle/Menu – Select a language for the Audio/ Subtitle/ Menu.
[Original]: Refers to the original language in which the disc was recorded.
[Others]: To select another language, press number buttons then ENTER to
enter the corresponding
4-digit number according to the language code list in the reference chapter
(see page 15). If you make a mistake while entering number, press CLEAR
repeatedly to delete numbers one by one then correct it.
[OFF] (for Disc Subtitle): Turn off Subtitle.
Fall asleep while listening to your player
When the sleep timer is set, the unit automatically turns off after
the specified the time has elapsed.
Each time you press SLEEP the setting changes in the following
order.
SLEEP180 → 150 → 120 → 90 → 80 → 70 → 60 → 50 → 40 → 20
→ 10 → OFF (No display) → SLEEP180
To cancel the sleep timer mode
If you have to stop the function, press the SLEEP repeatedly until
“SLEEP 10” appears, and then press SLEEP once again while
“SLEEP 10” is displayed.

(e.g. inputting the title number).
Most DVDs now have menus which load first before the film begins to play.
You can navigate these menus using vV b B to highlight an option.

chapter or track will be played back repeatedly.
To return to normal playback, press REPEAT repeatedly to select [OFF].

Press A-B at the beginning of the portion you wish to repeat and again at the
end of the portion. Your selected portion will be repeated continually.

During playback, press S -TITLE repeatedly to select a desired subtitle language.
Hearing a different audio

During playback, press AUDIO repeatedly to switch between the available audio
languages, channels or encoding methods.
Slow down the playing speed
Press b B to select an item. The selected item is highlighted.
Press ENTER.
DVD
To start playing at any chosen time on the disc:
1. Press DISPLAY during playback.
2. Press b B to select the time clock icon.
Input the required start time in hours, minutes, and seconds from left to right.
Playback starts from the selected time.
If you enter the wrong numbers, press CLEAR to remove the numbers you entered.
Then input the correct number
Screen Saver
The screen saver appears when you leave the unit in Stop mode for about five
minutes.
System Select
You must select the appropriate system mode for your TV system. If “NO DISC”
appears in the display window, press and hold PAUSE/STEP (X) for more than
five seconds to be able to select a system (PAL, NTSC, AUTO).
DVD
While playback is paused, press SCAN( BB) to slow down forward playback.
You can change the various playback speed by pressing SCAN (M)
repeatedly. Press PLAY ( N) to continue play at normal speed.
