The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance (servicing) instructions in the literature accompanying the product. CAUTION concerning the Power Cord Most appliances recommend they be placed upon a dedicated circuit; That is, a single outlet circuit which powers only that appliance and has no additional outlets or branch circuits. Check the specification page of this owner’s manual to be certain. Do not overload wall outlets. Overloaded wall outlets, loose or damaged wall outlets, extension cords, frayed power cords, or damaged or cracked wire insulation are dangerous. Any of these conditions could result in electric shock or fire. Periodically examine the cord of your appliance, and if its appearance indicates damage or deterioration, unplug it, discontinue use of the appliance, and have the cord replaced with an exact replacement part by an authorized service center. Protect the power cord from physical or mechanical abuse, such as being twisted, kinked, pinched, closed in a door, or walked upon. Pay particular attention to plugs, wall outlets, and the point where the cord exits the appliance. To disconnect power from the mains, pull out the mains cord plug. When installing the product, ensure that the plug is easily accessible. This device is equipped with a portable battery or accumulator. Safety way to remove the battery or the battery from the equipment: Remove the old battery or battery pack, follow the steps in reverse order than the assembly. To prevent contamination of the environment and bring on possible threat to human and animal health, the old battery or the battery put it in the appropriate container at designated collection points. Do not dispose of batteries or battery together with other waste. It is recommended that you use local, free reimbursement systems batteries and accumulators. The battery shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like. IN CASE OF 525 OR 625 PROGRESSIVE SCAN PICTURE PROBLEMS, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE USER SWITCH THE CONNECTION TO THE ‘STANDARD DEFINITION’ OUTPUT. IF THERE ARE QUESTIONS REGARDING OUR TV SET COMPATIBILITY WITH THIS MODEL 525p AND 625p UNIT, PLEASE CONTACT OUR CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER. You have to set the disc format option to [Mastered] in order to make the discs compatible with the LG players when formatting rewritable discs. When setting the option to Live File System, you cannot use it on LG players. (Mastered/ Live File System : Disc format system for Windows Vista) Disposal of your old appliance 1. CCooling fan DPower cord IANTENNA FM – Connects the FM wired antenna. 12 Connecting Before connecting Please make sure to disconnect the AC power cord before making any connection between the unit and any other device. Positioning the system 2 Connecting The following illustration shows an example of positioning the system. Note that the illustrations in these instructions differ from the actual unit for explanation purposes. B A D F C E / Front speaker (L/R) Place the front speakers to the sides of the monitor or screen and as flush with the screen surface as possible. / Subwoofer The position of the subwoofer is not so critical, because low bass sounds are not highly directional. But it is better to place the subwoofer near the front speakers. Turn it slightly toward the center of the room to reduce the wall reflections. Unit >>Caution yy Do not stack the speakers and be careful that the speaker should not fall down. Otherwise it may result in the speaker malfunction and causing personal injury and/ or property damage. yy Make sure to install the speaker with other people in order to prevent it from falling and causing injuries to the installer. Connecting Connecting speakers 2. Connect the wires to the speakers. Connect the other end of each wire to the correct speaker according to the color coding. Connect the wires to the unit. To connect the cable to the unit, press each plastic finger pad to open the connection terminal. Insert the wire and release the finger pad. To connect the cable to the speakers, press each plastic finger pad to open the connection terminals on the base of each speaker. Insert the wire and release the finger pad. Connect the black end of each wire to the terminals marked -(minus) and the other end to the terminals marked + (plus). yy Be careful to make sure children not to put their hands or any objects into the *speaker duct. *Speaker duct : A hall for plentiful bass sound on speaker cabinet (enclosure). yy The speakers contain magnet parts, so color irregularity may occur on the TV screen or PC monitor screen. Please use the speakers far away from either TV screen or PC monitor. 2 Connecting Black 13 14 2 Connecting Connecting video devices 1. Connect the HDMI IN 1/2 jack on AV Receiver System to your video device with HDMI OUT jack using HDMI cable. You can watch the input image from your video device. There are two ways of connecting your video device to AV Receiver System. 3. Set the input source to HDMI (page 23). Using an HDMI cable Connecting Since HDMI offers both audio and video signal over one cable, you can enjoy them without additional audio cable. DVD, Blu-ray disc player etc. HDMI cable HDMI cable TV 2. Connect the HDMI OUT TO TV jack on AV Receiver System to the HDMI IN jack on your TV. Connecting ,,Note yy HDMI is the abbreviated name for High Definition Multimedia Interface. It is an interface which transmits video and audio signals in digital format. If a connected HDMI device does not accept the audio output of the unit, the HDMI device’s audio sound may be distorted or may not output. 15 Resolution Setting The unit provides several display resolutions for HDMI OUT TO TV jack. You can change the resolution by using [Setup] menu. 1. Press SETUP. The [Setup] menu appears. yy When you use HDMI connection, you can change the resolution for the HDMI output. (Refer to “Resolution Setting”) 2 -- Try switching off the HDMI/DVI device and this unit. Next, switch on the HDMI/DVI device and leave it for around 30 seconds, then switch on this unit. 2.Use W/S to select [Display] option then press D to move to the second level. -- The connected device’s video input is set correctly for this unit. -- The connected device is compatible with 720 x 576i (or 480i), 720 x 576p (or 480p), 1280 x 720p, 1920 x 1080i or 1920 x 1080p video input. yy Not all HDCP-compatible HDMI or DVI devices will work with this unit. 3.Use W/S to select the [Resolution] option then press D to move to the third level. yy The picture will not be displayed properly with non-HDCP device. yy This unit does not playback and TV screen is changed to black screen. yy If there are noises or lines on the screen, please check the HDMI cable (length is generally limited to 4.5 m(15 ft). yy Changing the resolution when the connection has already been established may result in malfunctions. To solve the problem, turn off the unit and then turn it on again. yy When the HDMI connection with HDCP is not verified, TV screen is changed to black screen. In this case, check the HDMI connection, or disconnect the HDMI cable. 4.Use W/S to select the desired resolution then press ENTER ( ) to confirm your selection. ,,Note If your TV does not accept the resolution you have to set on the unit, you can set resolution to 576p (or 480p) as follows : Press Z for more than 5 seconds. Connecting yy When you connect a HDMI or DVI compatible device make sure of the followings : 16 Connecting Using a composite video cable To enjoy both sounds and pictures from your device, you have to connect analog audio cable as well as composite video cable. Audio cable 1. Connect the VIDEO IN jack on AV Receiver System to the VIDEO OUT jack on your video device using a composite video cable. 2. Connect the left and right AUDIO IN jacks of AV Receiver System to the left and right AUDIO OUT jacks on your video device using an audio cables. 3. Connect the VIDEO OUT jack on your AV Receiver System to the VIDEO IN jack on your TV. 2 Connecting 4. Set the input source to AV 1(page 23). ,,Note Video cable DVD, Blu-ray disc player etc Video cable TV When connecting an audio/video cable, be sure to match the color-coded pins to the appropriate jacks on the components: yellow (video) to yellow; white (left, audio) to white; and red (right, audio) to red. Connecting Connecting audio devices 1.Connect AV IN 1, COAXIAL 1/2 or OPTICAL 1/2 jack on AV Receiver System to your audio device’s OUTPUT jack you want. You can hear the sound from your TV, DVD player, Blu-ray player, CD player, etc. It is not necessary to connect all the cables. Connect AV Receiver System to an AV IN, a COAXIAL or an OPTICAL jack on your device you want to connect. Audio cable or DVD, Blu-ray disc player etc. or TV 2. Set the input source to AV IN 1, COAXIAL 1/2 or OPTICAL 1/2 you connect (page 23). ,,Note When connecting an audio/video cable, be sure to match the color-coded pins to the appropriate jacks on the components: yellow (video) to yellow; white (left, audio) to white; and red (right, audio) to red. 2 Connecting Optical cable Coaxial cable 17 18 Connecting Connecting other devices You can easily connect other devices (camcorder, game console, etc) to the jacks on the front panel of AV Receiver System. Video cable 2 1. Connect the VIDEO IN jack on the front panel of AV Receiver System to the VIDEO OUT jack on your device using a video cable. 2. Connect the left and right AUDIO IN jacks on the front of AV Receiver System to the audio left and right OUT jacks on your device using an audio cables. 3. Connect the VIDEO OUT jack on the back panel of AV Receiver System to the VIDEO IN jack on your TV. Connecting 4. Set the input source to AV 2 (page 23). TV ,,Note When connecting an audio/video cable, be sure to match the color-coded pins to the appropriate jacks on the components: yellow (video) to yellow; white (left, audio) to white; and red (right, audio) to red. Audio cable Video cable Camcorder, game console, etc. Connecting 19 Connecting the antenna Connecting portable devices 1. Connect the FM wire antenna to the FM antenna connector. 1. Connect the PORT. IN jack on AV Receiver System to the head phone or LINE OUT jack on your portable device (MP3 player, etc.) using a portable cable ( 3.5 mm stereo plug). 2 Connecting FM wire antenna 2. Set the input source to FM tuner (page 23). ,,Note MP3 player etc. Portable cable Be sure to fully extend the FM wire antenna. After connecting the FM wire antenna, keep it horizontal. 2. Set the input source to PORTABLE (page 23). 20 System Setting Settings Adjusting the Setup Settings You can change the settings of the unit in the [Setup] menu. 1.Press SETUP. The [Setup] menu appears. [Language] Menu Menu Language Select a language for the [Setup] menu and onscreen display. [Display] Menu TV Aspect Select which screen aspect to use based on the shape of your TV screen. [4:3] 3 Select when a standard 4:3 TV is connected. System Setting 2. Use W/S to select the first setup option, and press D to move to the second level. [16:9] Select when a 16:9 wide TV is connected. Display Mode The Display Mode setting works only when the TV Aspect mode is set to 4:3. [Letterbox] 3.Use W/S to select a second setup option, and press D to move to the third level. Displays a wide picture with bands on the upper and lower portions of the screen. [Panscan] Automatically displays the wide picture on the entire screen and cuts off the portions that do not fit. 4.Use W/S to select a desired setting, and press ENTER ( ) to confirm your selection. System Setting Resolution [Audio] Menu Sets the output resolution of the HDMI video signal. Refer to “Resolution Setting” for details about the resolution (page 15). Speaker Setup [Auto] If the HDMI OUT jack is connected to TVs providing display information (EDID), automatically selects the resolution best suited to the connected TV. 21 Make the following settings for the built-in 2.2 channel surround speaker. 1. Select [Speaker Setup] on the [Audio] menu. 2.Press ENTER ( ) The [SPEAKER] menu appears. [576i] or [480i] Outputs 576 (or 480) lines of interlaced video. [576p] or [480p] 3 [720p] Outputs 720 lines of progressive video. [1080i] Outputs 1080 lines of interlaced video. 3.Use A/D to select the desired speaker. 4. Adjust options using W/S/A/D buttons. 5. After adjusting the desired options, press RETURN(x). The menu moves to the previous screen. [1080p] [Speaker] Outputs 1080 lines of progressive video. Select a speaker that you want to adjust. ,,Note Certain speaker settings are prohibited by the Dolby Digital licensing agreement. [Size] Since the speaker settings are fixed, you cannot change the settings. [Volume] Press A/D to adjust the output level of the selected speaker. - Front L/R : 0 to -5 - SubWoofer 1/2 : 5 to -5 ,,Note There is the other way to adjust the speaker levels. Refer to page 24. System Setting Outputs 576 (or 480) lines of progressive video. 22 System Setting [Distance] [Others] Menu Adjust the distance between each speaker and the listening position. DivX(R) VOD [Speaker Test Start] / [Speaker Test Stop] Select [Speaker Test Start] by using the W/S and press ENTER ( ). Press ENTER ( ) again to stop. Adjust the volume to match the volume of test signals memorized in the system. DRC (Dynamic Range Control) 3 System Setting When a title encoded in Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital Plus is playing back, you may wish to compress the dynamic range of the audio output (the difference between the loudest sounds and the quietest ones). This allows you to listen to a movie at a lower volume without losing clarity of sound. Set [DRC] to [On] for this effect. HD AV Sync Sometimes Digital TV encounters a delay between picture and sound. If this happens you can compensate by setting a delay on the sound so that it effectively ‘waits’ for the picture to arrive: this is called HD AV Sync. Use W/S (on the remote control) to scroll up and down through the delay amount, which you can set at anything between 0 ms and 300 ms. ,,Note This function is operated only on the source of USB. [Deregister] Deactivate your unit and display the deactivation code. 4Operating Operating 23 Basic operations Selecting the input source This section explains how to select the input source (i.e., the AV component that you want to listen to or watch). It is necessary to connect the equipment you want to enjoy such as DVD, Blu-ray disc player, USB etc. By using the knob on the unit 1.Press 1/! (STANDBY/ON) on the unit. 2. These settings are applied to all sound fields. You can adjust from -5 to +5 in 1 step. You can enjoy various sound mode. For details, refer to Setting the USER EQ, Sound effect and Bass Blast. 1.Press SPEAKER LEVEL on the remote control repeatedly to select a desired speaker to set. Setting the USER EQ The indicator changes cyclically in the display window as follows. SW -> FL -> FR 2.Press VOL -/+ to adjust the sound level of the selected speaker while the indicator is displayed in the display window. 4 You can listen to music with desired sound effect by adjusting the BASS, MIDDLE and TREBLE. 1.Press USER EQ on the front panel. “USER EQ” appears on the display window. 2.Press PLAY/PAUSE on the front panel while the “USER EQ” is displayed in the display window. 3. Repeat and adjust the sound level of the other speakers. Operating 25 ,,Note Sound effect This system has a number of preset sound effects. You can select a suitable sound effect. Press SOUND EFFECT on the remote control repeatedly until the desired sound effect appears on the display window. yy In some of surround modes, some speakers, there’s no sound or low sound. It depends on the mode of surround and the source of audio, it is not defective. Display Description yy You may need to reset the surround mode, after switching the input, sometimes even after the sound track changed. NATURAL You can enjoy comfortable and natural sound. yy Depending on region, specific Local specialization equalizer is selected. Local Regionally optimized sound effect. (DANGDUT/ ARABIC/ PERSIAN/ INDIA/ REGUETON/ MERENGUE/ SAMBA/ SALSA/ CUMBIA/ AFRO HIP HOP) specialization equalizer AUTO EQ CLASSIC JAZZ ROCK This program lends an enthusiastic atmosphere to the sound, giving you the feeling you are at an actual rock, pop, jazz or classic concert. MP3-OPT This function is optimized for compressible MP3 file. It improves the treble sound. BASS BLAST During playback, reinforces the bass sound. LOUDNESS Improves the bass and treble sound. 3D SOUND 3D Sound features deliver sound creating a wider spot so you can enjoy more immersive and cinematic surround sound. BYPASS You can enjoy the sound without equalizer effect. You can set the BASS BLAST sound mode directly. Press BASS BLAST repeatedly. Display Description BASS BLAST During playback, reinforces the bass sound. BYPASS You can enjoy the sound without equalizer effect. To activate the mute function Press MUTE ( ) on the remote control. "MUTE" appears on the display window. To cancel, press MUTE ( ) on the remote control again or change the volume level. 4 Operating POP Sets the sound equalizer to the mode that is the most similar to the genre which is included in the MP3 ID3 tag of song files. Bass Blast 26 Operating Radio Operations Presetting the Radio Stations Be sure that FM aerial is connected. Before tuning, make sure to turn down the volume. Listening to FM radio 1.Press RADIO on the remote control or turn INPUT SELECTION on the unit until FM appears on the display window. The last received station is tuned in. 2. Automatically : 4 Press and hold TUNING -/+ for about 2 seconds until the frequency indication starts to change, then release. Scanning stops when the unit tunes in a station. Manually : You can preset 50 stations for FM. 1. Tune in to a radio station. 2.Press ENTER ( ). A preset number will blink in the display window. 3.Press PRESET +/- to select the preset number you want. 4.Press ENTER ( ). The station is stored. 5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 to store the other stations. 6. To listen to a preset station, press PRESET +/- or 0 to 9 numerical buttons. Deleting the saved stations Operating Press TUNING -/+ on the remote control repeatedly or turn MULTI CONTROL on the unit. Each of the saved stations 3. Operating 27 Playing the USB device This unit can play movie, music and photo files contained in the USB device. Basic operation 1. Connect the USB device to the USB port until it fits into the port. To stop playback MUSIC MOVIE PHOTO Press Z during playback. To pause playback MUSIC MOVIE Press M during playback. Press d to resume playback. To scan forward or backward MUSIC MOVIE Press c or v to play fast forward or fast reverse during playback. You can change the various playback speeds by pressing c or v repeatedly. Press d to return to normal speed. MUSIC MOVIE 2. Select the USB function by pressing USB on the remote control or by turning INPUT SELECTION until "USB" appears on the display window. The music files start playing automatically if there are only music files in the USB device. If there are different types of files in the USB, you should select one from [USB] menu. [USB] menu 3. Select [Music], [Movie] or [Photo] by using A/ D and press ENTER ( ). During playback, press C or V to go to the next chapter/track/file or to return to the beginning of the current chapter/track/file. Press C twice briefly to step back to the previous chapter/track/file. PHOTO During playback, press C or V to go to the previous/next file. 4 Operating To skip to the next/previous chapter/ track/file 28 Operating To slow down the playing speed MOVIE While the playback is paused, press v repeatedly to play various speeds of slow motion. Resume playback MUSIC MOVIE The unit records the point where you pressed the Z depending on the file. If “MZ” appears on the screen briefly, press d to resume playback (from the scene point). If you press Z twice, “Z” appears on the screen. The unit will clear the stopped point. Removing the USB device from the unit 4 1. Choose a different function/mode or press Z twice in a row. USB device requirement yy Devices which require additional program installation connected to a computer, are not supported. yy Do not extract the USB device while in operation. yy For a large capacity USB, it may take longer than a few minute to be searched. yy Regular back up is recommended to prevent data loss. yy If you use a USB extension cable or USB hub, the USB device is not recognized. yy Using NTFS file system is not supported. (Only FAT(16/32) file system is supported.) yy This unit is not supported when the total number of files is 1000 or more. yy External HDD, Multi Media Card readers, Locked devices, or hard type usb devices are not supported. yy USB Port of the unit cannot be connected to PC. The unit cannot be used as a storage device. yy Digital camera and mobile phone are not supported. Operating 29 Listening to music Playing your favorite music You can play music files contained in a USB device. It enables you to listen to music by marking your favorite files. 1. Select [Music] by using A/D on the [USB] menu. 2.Press ENTER( ). The music files start playing automatically. 1. During playback, select your favorite files by using W/S. 2.Press MARKER. The [ indicator appears on the [MUSIC] menu. 3. Repeat steps 1-2. Using the [Music] menu 4.Press d or ENTER( ). The play mode is displayed on the [MUSIC] menu. Mark Play Current Play 5. Select the desired play mode by using W/S. Description UP FOLDER Returning to the upper folder. Select All Marking all the files. Deselect All Deselecting all the marked files. ;/. Moving to the previous or next page. Buttons [Mark Play] : Plays the marked files in order. [Current Play] : Plays all the files in a folder in order. 6.Press ENTER( ). ,,Note Select a desired option by using W/S/A/D. [ Mark Marking the selected files. Returns to normal playback. AUTO DJ playback 4 AUTO DJ blends the end of one song into the beginning of another for seamless playback. Operating During playback, press AUTO DJ repeatedly to select a desired mode. Display Description AUTO DJ RANDOM The music is played randomly on this mode. AUTO DJ SEQUENTIAL The music is played repeatedly on this mode. AUTO DJ OFF Returns to normal playback. 1. During playback, press INFO/DISPLAY ( ) to show various playback information. a Title – Current title number / Total number of titles b Time – Elapsed playing time / Total playback time c Audio – Selected audio language or channel d Subtitle – Selected subtitle e Code Page – Selected subtitle code page 2. Select an option using W/S. 3.Use A/D to adjust the selected option value. 4.Press INFO/DISPLAY ( ) or RETURN (x) to exit the On-Screen display. ,,Note If no button is pressed for a few seconds, the on-screen display disappears. Operating 31 Playing from selected time Movie file requirement 1.Press INFO/DISPLAY ( ) during playback. The time search box shows the elapsed playing time. Movie file compatibility with this unit is limited as follows. 2. Select the [Time] option and then input the required start time in hours, minutes, and seconds from left to right. For example, to find a scene at 2 hours, 10 minutes, and 20 seconds, enter “21020”. 3.Press ENTER ( selected time. ) to start playback from Hearing different audio 1. During playback, press INFO/DISPLAY ( ) to display the On-Screen display. 2.Use W/S to select the [Audio] option. 3.Use A/D to select desired audio language, audio track or audio channel. 1. During playback, press INFO/DISPLAY ( ) to display the On-Screen display. 2.Use W/S to select the [Subtitle] option. 3.Use A/D to select desired subtitle language. 4.Press RETURN (x) to exit the On-Screen display. Changing subtitle code page If the subtitle is not displayed properly, you can change the subtitle code page to view the subtitle file properly. 1. SLEEP 180 -> 150 -> 120 -> 90 -> 80 -> 70 -> 60 -> 50 -> 40 -> 30 -> 20 -> 10 -> Off (No display) yy File extensions: “.jpg”, “.jpeg” To check the remaining time, press SLEEP. The remaining time appears on the display window. Other Operations Dimmer To cancel the sleep function, press SLEEP repeatedly until “SLEEP 10” appears, and then press SLEEP once again while “SLEEP 10” is displayed. ,,Note When the sleep timer is activated, the display window dims and the lighting is turned off. Press DIMMER once. The display window is darkened by half and the lighting is turned off. To cancel it, press DIMMER again. The screen saver is available only on the USB device mode. The screen saver appears when you leave the unit in Stop mode for about five minutes. Plug in the power cord. yy Check the condition by operating other electronic devices. yy The speaker wires are disconnected. Check the speaker connections. yy The volume is set to minimum. Adjust the volume level. No sound yy Incorrect input source is selected. Check the input source and select the correct input source. yy The mute function is activated. Press @MUTE or adjust the volume level to cancel the mute function. No lighting yy The Dimmer or the Sleep function is activated. Press DIMMER or SLEEP to cancel the function. yy The antenna is positioned poorly. Adjust its position. yy The signal strength of the radio station is too weak. Tune to the station manually. Radio stations cannot be tuned in properly. yy No stations have been preset or preset stations have been cleared (when tuning by scanning preset channels). Preset some radio stations, see page 26 for details. 5 Troubleshooting yy The remote control is too far from the unit. Operate the remote control within about 23 ft (7m). The remote control does not work properly. yy There is an obstacle in the path of the remote control and the unit. Remove the obstacle. yy The batteries in the remote control are exhausted.
