This lightning flash with arrowhead symbol within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated dangerous voltage within the product’s enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of electric shock to persons. The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance (servicing) instructions in the literature accompanying the product. WARNING: TO PREVENT FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD, DO NOT EXPOSE THIS PRODUCT TO RAIN OR MOISTURE. CAUTION: The apparatus should not be exposed to water (dripping or splashing) and no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, should be placed on the apparatus. Electrical swatter) This product may malfunction due to electrical shock. CAUTION: Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the product and to protect it from over heating. The openings shall be never be blocked by placing the product on a bed, sofa, rug or other similar surface. This product shall not be placed in a builtin installation such as a bookcase or rack unless proper ventilation is provided or the manufacturer’s instruction has been adhered to. CAUTION: This product employs a Laser System. To ensure proper use of this product, please read this owner’s manual carefully and retain it for future reference. Shall the unit require maintenance, contact an authorized service center. Use of controls, adjustments or the performance of procedures other than those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure. To prevent direct exposure to laser beam, do not try to open the enclosure. CAUTION concerning the Power Cord Most appliances recommend they be placed upon a dedicated circuit; That is, a single outlet circuit which powers only that appliance and has no additional outlets or branch circuits. Check the specification page of this owner’s manual to be certain. Do not overload wall outlets. Overloaded wall outlets, loose or damaged wall outlets, extension cords, frayed power cords, or damaged or cracked wire insulation are dangerous. Any of these conditions could result in electric shock or fire. Periodically examine the cord of your appliance, and if its appearance indicates damage or deterioration, unplug it, discontinue use of the appliance, and have the cord replaced with an exact replacement part by an authorized service center. Protect the power cord from physical or mechanical abuse, such as being twisted, kinked, pinched, closed in a door, or walked upon. Pay particular attention to plugs, wall outlets, and the point where the cord exits the appliance. The Power Plug is the disconnecting device. In case of an emergency, the Power Plug must remain readily accessible. Getting Started 3 POWER: This unit operates on a mains supply of 200-240V~, 50/60Hz. Safety way to remove the battery or the battery from the equipment: Remove the old battery or battery pack, follow the steps in reverse order than the assembly. To prevent contamination of the environment and bring on possible threat to human and animal health, the old battery or the battery put it in the appropriate container at designated collection points. Do not dispose of batteries or battery together with other waste. It is recommended that you use local, free reimbursement systems batteries and accumulators. The battery shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like. Wiring: This unit is supplied with a BS 1363 approved main plug. When replacing the fuse, always use of the same rating approved to BS 1362. Never use this plug with the fuse cover omitted. To obtain a replacement fuse cover contact your dealer. If the type of plug supplied is not suitable for the mains sockets in your home, then the plug should be removed and a suitable type fitted. Please refer to the wiring instructions below: NOTICE: For safety marking information including product identification and supply ratings, please refer to the main label on the bottom or the other surface of the product. Warning: A mains plug removed from the mains lead of this unit must be destroyed. A mains plug with bared wires is hazardous if inserted in a mains socket. Do not connect either wire to the earth pin, marked with the letter E or with the earth symbol or coloured green or green and yellow. If any other plug is fitted, use same rating of fuse in the plug. Caution: No naked flame sources, such as lighted candles, should be placed on the apparatus. Important: The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following codes: Symbols ~ 0 Refers to alternating current(AC). Refers to direct current(DC). Refers to class II equipment. 1 Refers to stand-by. ! Refers to “ON” (power). Refers to dangerous voltage. - BLUE: NEUTRAL, BROWN: LIVE - As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this unit may not correspond with the coloured marking identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows: The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black. Regional Codes This unit has a regional code printed on the unit. This unit can play only DVD discs labeled same as the unit or “ALL”. yy Most DVD discs have a globe with one or more numbers in it clearly visible on the cover. This number must match your unit’s regional code or the disc cannot play. yy If you try to play a DVD with a different regional code from your unit, the message “Check Regional Code” appears on the TV screen. 1 Getting Started This unit plays DVD±R/RW and CD-R/RW that contains audio titles, MP3, WMA and/or JPEG files. Some DVD±RW/DVD±R or CD-RW/CD-R cannot be played on this unit due to the recording quality or physical condition of the disc, or the characteristics of the recording device and authoring software. 7 8 Getting Started Playable file Requirement 1 Getting Started Music file requirement MP3/ WMA file compatibility with this unit is limited as follows : yy Sampling frequency : within 32 to 48 kHz (MP3), within 32 to 48 kHz (WMA) yy Bit rate : within 32 to 320 kbps (MP3), 40 to 192 kbps (WMA) yy Support Version : v2, v7, v8, v9 yy Maximum files : Under 999 yy File extensions : “.mp3”/ “.wma” yy CD-ROM file format : ISO9660/ JOLIET yy We recommend that you use Easy-CD Creator, which creates an ISO9660 file system. yy You have to set the disc format option to [Mastered] in order to make the discs compatible with the LG players when formatting rewritable discs. When setting the option to Live File System, you cannot use it on LG players.(Mastered/ Live File System : Disc format system for Windows Vista) Video file requirement Video file compatibility with this unit is limited as follows: yy Available resolution: within 720 x 576 (W x H) pixels. yy The file name of the Video subtitle should be entered within 45 characters. yy If there is impossible code to express in the Video file, it may be displayed as “ _ “ mark on the display. yy Frame rate : less than 30 fps. yy If the video and audio structure of recorded files is not interleaved, either video or audio is outputted. yy Playable Video file : “.avi”, “.mpg”, “.mpeg” yy Playable Subtitle format : SubRip (*.srt/ *.txt), SAMI (*.smi), SubStation Alpha (*.ssa/ *.txt), MicroDVD (*.sub/ *.txt), SubViewer 2.0 (*.sub/ *.txt), Vobsub (*.sub) yy Playable Codec format : “Xvid”, “MPEG-1”, “MPEG-2” yy Playable Audio format : “AC3”, “PCM”, “MP3”, “WMA”, yy Sampling frequency : within 32 to 48 kHz (MP3), within 32 to 48 kHz (WMA) yy Bit rate : within 32 to 320 kbps (MP3), 40 to 192 kbps (WMA) The DTS is not supported. In case of DTS audio format, audio is not output. yy For Discs formatted in Live file system, you can not it on this unit. Photo file requirement yy If the name of movie file is different from that of the subtitle file, during playback of a Video file, subtitle may not be display. Photo file compatibility with this unit is limited as follows : yy Max pixel in width : 2760 x 2048 pixel yy Maximum files : Under 999 yy Some discs may not operate due to a different recording format or the condition of disc. yy File extensions: “.jpg” yy CD-ROM file format : ISO9660/ JOLIET yy If you play a Xvid file differ from Xvid spec, it may not operate normally. yy If you play GMC video file which is more than 1-warp point, video playback screen will not smooth. Getting Started 9 Remote control SOUND EFFECT : Selects a sound effect mode. n (Home) : Displays the [Home Menu]. VOL -/+ (Volume) : Adjusts speaker volume. m INFO/DISPLAY : Accesses OnScreen Display. DISC MENU : Accesses the menu on a DVD disc. W/S/A/D (up/ down/ left/ right) : Used to navigate on-screen displays. PRESET (W/S) : Selects programme of Radio. TUNING +/- : Tunes in the desired radio station. b ENTER : Acknowledges menu selection. Presetting the radio stations. x RETURN : Moves backwards in the menu or exits the setup menu. TITLE: If the current DVD title has a menu, the title menu appears on the screen. Otherwise, the disc menu may not appear. • • • • • • • • • c• • • • • • • • Z (Stop) : Stops playback. (LG TV only) -- You can control the sound level, input source, and power switching of LG TVs as well. Hold 1 (TV) and press PR/CH (W/ S) button repeatedly until the TV turns on or off. OPTICAL : Changes input source to optical directly. ?: This button is not available. MIC VOL -/+ (Microphone Volume) : Adjusts microphone volume. ECHO VOL -/+ (Volume) : Adjusts echo volume. VOCAL FADER: You can enjoy the function as karaoke, by reducing singer vocal of music in the various source. 1 Getting Started SLEEP : Sets the System to turn off automatically at a specified time. Pauses playback temporarily, press again to exit pause mode. h I (STOP) Stops playback. iF (FUNCTION) Changes the input source or function. j-/+(Volume) Adjusts speaker volume. k 1/! (Interface for digital audio and video) e VIDEO OUT Connects to a TV with video inputs. f AUX (L/R) INPUT Connects to an external source with 2 channel audio outputs. g ANTENNA FM- Connects the FM wired antenna 12 Connecting Attaching the speakers to the unit 2 Connecting 1. Connect the wires to the unit. Match each wire’s colored band to the same colored connection terminal on the rear of the unit. To connect the cable to the unit, press each plastic finger pad to open the connection terminal. Insert the wire and release the finger pad. Color Speaker Grey SURR. L (Rear) Position Front right Front left >>Caution yy Be careful to make sure children do not put their hands or any objects into the *speaker duct. *Speaker duct : A hole for plentiful bass sound on speaker cabinet (enclosure). Connect the black stripe of each wire to the terminals marked -(minus) and the other end to the terminals marked + (plus). Connect a woofer cord to the player. When connecting a woofer cord to the player, insert the connector until it clicks. yy The speakers contain magnet parts, so color irregularity may occur on the TV screen or PC monitor screen. Please use the speakers far away from either TV screen or PC monitor. Connecting 13 Positioning the system Front and Surround (Rear) speaker with built in subwoofer (L) The following illustration shows an example of positioning the system. Note that the illustrations in these instructions differ from the actual unit for explanation purposes. Front and Surround (Rear) speaker with built in subwoofer (R) For the best possible surround sound, all the speakers other than the subwoofer should be placed at the same distance from the listening position ( ). A F C B A Unit >>Caution yy Do not stack the speakers and be careful that the speaker should not fall down. Otherwise it may result in the speaker malfunction and causing personal injury and/ or property damage. yy Make sure to install the speaker with other people in order to prevent it from falling and causing injuries to the installer. 2 Connecting B Place the speakers to the sides of the monitor or screen and as flush with the screen surface as possible. 14 Connecting How to Affix the Ferrite Core Ferrite core may not be provided depending on each nation’s regulations. 2 Affix the Ferrite Core for HDMI cable Connecting You must affix a ferrite core in order to reduce or eliminate electrical interference. 1. Pull the stopper [a] of the ferrite core to open. 2. Wind the HDMI cable around the ferrite core once. 3. Close the ferrite core until it clicks. Connections to Your TV Make one of the following connections, depending on the capabilities of your existing equipment. ,,Note yy Depending on your TV and other equipment you wish to connect, there are various ways you could connect the player. Use only one of the connections described in this manual. yy Please refer to the manuals of your TV, Stereo System or other devices as necessary to make the best connections. >>Caution yy Make sure the unit is connected directly to the TV. Tune the TV to the correct video input channel. yy Do not connect your player via your VCR. The image could be distorted by the copy protection system. Connecting 15 HDMI Out Connection If you have a HDMI TV or monitor, you can connect it to this unit using a HDMI cable (Type A, High Speed HDMI™ Cable). Connect the HDMI OUT jack on the unit to the HDMI IN jack on a HDMI compatible TV or monitor. Set the TV’s source to HDMI (refer to TV’s Owner’s manual). yy When you connect a HDMI or DVI compatible device make sure of the following: - Try switching off the HDMI/DVI device and this unit. Next, switch on the HDMI/ DVI device and leave it for around 30 seconds, then switch on this unit. - The connected device’s video input is set correctly for this unit. - The connected device is compatible with 720 x 480i (or 576i), 720 x 480p (or 576p), 1280 x 720p, 1920 x 1080i or 1920 x 1080p video input. yy Not all HDCP-compatible HDMI or DVI devices will work with this unit. TV - The picture will not be displayed properly with non-HDCP device. - This unit does not playback and TV screen is changed to black or green screen or the snow noise may occur on the screen. yy If there is noise or lines on the screen, please check the HDMI cable and use a higher version cable than High Speed HDMI™ Cable. ,,Tip yy You can fully enjoy digital audio and video signals together with this HDMI connection. yy When you use HDMI connection, you can change the resolution for the HDMI output. (Refer to “Resolution Setting” on page 17.) >>Caution yy Changing the resolution when the connection has already been established may result in malfunctions. To solve the problem, turn off the unit and then turn it on again. yy When the HDMI connection with HDCP is not verified, TV screen is changed to black or green screen or the snow noise may occur on the screen. In this case, check the HDMI connection, or disconnect the HDMI cable. yy If you use Bluetooth or AUX-OPT Function of the unit, the audio is not output to HDMI. 2 Connecting Unit ,,Note yy If a connected HDMI device does not accept the audio output of the unit, the HDMI device’s audio sound may be distorted or may not output. 16 Connecting What is SIMPLINK? Video Connection Connect the VIDEO OUT jack on the unit to the video in jack on the TV using a video cable. Some functions of this unit are controlled by the TV’s remote control when this unit and LG TV’s with SIMPLINK are connected through HDMI connection. 2 You can hear the sound through the system’s speakers. Controllable functions by LG TV’s remote control; Power on/off, volume up/down, mute, etc. Connecting Refer to the TV owner’s manual for the details of SIMPLINK function. Unit LG TV’s with SIMPLINK function has the logo as shown above. ,,Note yy Depending on the disc type or playing status, some SIMPLINK operation may differ from your purpose or not work. yy The function is automatically changed to optical when you change the speaker setting of simplink to external, no matter what kind of the function you are using. TV Yellow Connecting 17 Resolution Setting The unit provides several output resolutions for HDMI OUT. You can change the resolution using [Setup] menu. 1.Press n. 2.Use A/D to select the [Setup] and press b ENTER. The [Setup] menu appears. Optional Equipment Connection AUX (L/R) INPUT Connection Connect an Output of auxiliary device to the AUX (L/ R) INPUT Connector. 2 Connecting Unit 3.Use W/S to select [Display] option then press D to move to the second level. 4.Use W/S to select the [Resolution] option then press D to move to the third level. 5.Use W/S to select the desired resolution then press b ENTER to confirm your selection. ,,Note If your TV does not accept the resolution you have set on the player, you can set resolution to 480p (or 576p) as follows: Press Z for more than 5 seconds. Video Output Resolution Displayed resolution in display window and outputted resolution may different according to connection type. [HDMI OUT] : 1080p, 1080i, 720p and 480p (or 576p) and 480i (or 576i) [VIDEO OUT] : 480i (or 576i) To the audio output jacks of your component (TV, VCR, etc.) ,,Note Red White If your TV has only one output for audio (mono), connect it to the left (white) audio jack on the unit. 18 Connecting PORT. IN (Portable Input) Connection Connect an output of portable device (MP3 or PMP etc.) to the PORT. IN connector. USB Connection Connect the USB port of USB Memory (or MP3 player, etc.) to the USB port on the front of the unit. 2 Connecting ,,Note MP3 player, etc... Listening to music from your portable player or external device The unit can be used to play the music from many types of portable player or external devices. 1. Connect the portable player to the PORT. IN (PORTABLE IN) connector of the unit. Or Connect the external device to the AUX (L/R) INPUT connector of the unit. 2. Turn the power on by pressing 1/!. 3. Select the PORTABLE or AUX function by pressing P FUNCTION. 4. Turn on the portable player or external device and start it playing. Removing the USB Device from the unit. 1. Choose a different function mode or press Z twice in a row. 2. Remove the USB device from the unit. Connecting 19 Compatible USB Devices OPTICAL IN connection yy MP3 Player : Flash type MP3 player. yy USB Flash Drive :Devices that support USB2.0 or USB1.1. Connect an optical output of Unit (or Digital Device etc) to the OPTICAL IN connector. yy The USB function of this unit does not support some USB devices. USB device requirement 2 Connecting yy Devices which require additional program installation connected to a computer, are not supported. yy Do not extract the USB device while in operation. yy For a large capacity USB, it may take longer than a few minute to be searched. To the digital optical output jack of your component yy To prevent data loss, back up all data. yy If you use a USB extension cable or USB hub, the USB device is not recognized. yy Using NTFS file system is not supported. (Only FAT(16/32) file system is supported.) yy This unit is not supported when the total number of files is 1000 or more. Home theater speaker ez setup yy External HDD, Card readers, Locked devices, or hard type usb devices are not supported. Listen to sound from TV, DVD and Digital Device with 4.2 ch mode. Even in power off mode, if you press OPTICAL, then power is on and automatically changed to AUX OPT mode. yy USB port of the unit cannot be connected to PC. The unit can not be used as a storage device. yy Some USB may not work with this unit. 1. Connect the unit’s OPTICAL IN jack to jack on optical out of your TV (or Digital Device etc.). 2. Select the AUX OPT by using the OPTICAL on the remote control to select the AUX OPT directly. Or To select the AUX OPT function, press P FUNCTION on the remote control. 3. Listen sound with 4.2 ch speaker. 4. To escape from AUX OPT by using the OPTICAL. Function is retuned to previous one. 20 Connecting Antenna Connection Connect the supplied FM antenna for listening to the radio. Connect the FM Wire antenna to the FM antenna connector. 2 Connecting ,,Note Be sure to fully extend the FM wire antenna. System Setting 21 Adjust the setup settings By using the Setup menu, you can make various adjustments to items such as picture and sound. To display and exit the Setup menu 1.Press n. Displays the [Home Menu]. You can also set a language for the subtitles and the Setup menu, among other things. For details on each Setup menu item, see pages 21 to 24. OSD Initial language settings Optional 1.Press 1 to turn the unit on. The language setup menu will appear on the screen. 2.Use WSAD to select a language then press b ENTER. Select the desired frequency by using TUNING (-/+). 3.Press b ENTER a preset number will flash in the display window. 4.Press PRESET (W/S) to select the preset number you want. 5.Press b ENTER. The station is stored. 6. Repeat the steps 2 to 5 to store other stations. 7. To listen a preset station, press PRESET (W/ S) or 0 to 9 numerical buttons on the remote control. Deleting all the saved stations 1. Press and hold CLEAR for two seconds. “ERASEALL” will flash up on the unit display. 2.Press CLEAR to erase all saved of the radio stations. Setting the USER EQ The displayed items for the equalizer maybe different depending on sound sources and effects. You can adjust the sound level of Bass(BASS) and Treble(TRE) as your preference. On Display Description You can enjoy the sound without equalizer effect. BASS BLAST (BASS) The BASS is Bass Blast. During playback, reinforce the treble, bass and surround sound effect. USER EQ FOOTBALL You can adjust the sound effect. You can enjoy more dynamic sound as watching sports game in the stadium. 2.Use WS to select Bass (BASS) or Treble(TRE). 3.Use AD to select the sound level of Bass(BASS) or Treble(TRE) then press b ENTER to save the setting. 4 Operating STANDARD (STD) 1.Use SOUND EFFECT to select the USER EQ then press b ENTER. 32 Operating Advanced Operations Recording to USB You can record music or sound souce to USB device by connecting in to the port on the unit. 1. Connect the USB device to the unit. 2. Select a mode in which you want to record. Playback a sound source first. 3. Start the recording by pressing X REC. 4. To stop recording, press Z. [All tracks/ files recording] Record to USB in stop or play mode. [Program list recording] After marking desired file(s) and you can record it to USB (Refer to the page 27). 4 It’ll be stored as follows. Operating Audio CD ,,Note yy You can check the recording percentage rate for the USB record on the screen during the recording. (Audio CD or MP3/ WMA CD only) yy During recording MP3/WMA, there is no sound. yy When you stop recording during playback, the file that has been recorded at that time will be stored. (Except MP3/WMA files) yy Do not remove the USB device or turn off the unit during USB recording. If does not, an incomplete file may be made and not deleted on PC. yy Recording through microphones is not available. yy If USB recording does not work, the message like “NO USB”, “ERROR”, “USB FULL” or “NO REC” is displayed on the display window. yy Multi card reader device or external HDD can not be used for USB recording. yy A file is recorded by 128 Mbyte (about 2 hours) when you record for a long term. There are recorded less than 4 files. yy In the state CD-G, DTS disc USB record is not operated. yy The files in the sub-folders are not recorded during all track recording. MP3/ WMA The other sources (Tuner, AUX, Portable) yy You may not record more than 999 files. yy The numbering of the recording file is entered from the lowest number. So if you delete some of the recording files, the next recording file could be the lowest number among them. The making of unauthorized copies of copyprotected material, including computer programs, files, broadcasts and sound recordings, may be an infringement of copyrights and constitute a criminal offense. Connecting individual devices under Bluetooth wireless technology does not incur any charges. A mobile phone with Bluetooth wireless technology can be operated via the Cascade if the connection was made via Bluetooth wireless technology. Available Devices : Mobile phone, MP3, Laptop, PDA (This units be supported the Stereo Headset.) In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, devices must be able to interpret certain profiles.This unit is compatible with following profile. A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) Pairing your unit and Bluetooth device Before you start the pairing procedure, make sure the Bluetooth feature is turned on in to your Bluetooth device. Refer to your Bluetooth device’s user guide. Once a pairing operation is performed, it does not need to be performed again. 1. Select the Bluetooth function by using the P FUNCTION. Appears “BT READY” in display window. 2. Operate the Bluetooth device and perform the pairing operation. When searching for this unit with the Bluetooth device, a list of the devices found may appear in the Bluetooth device display depending on the type of Bluetooth device.Your unit appears as “LG HTS(XX:XX)”. ,,Note XX:XX means the last four digits of BT address. For example, if your unit has a BT address such as 9C:02:98:4A:F7:08, you will see “LG HTS(F7:08)” on your Bluetooth device. 3. When you try to connect BLUETOOTH device When you try to connect your Bluetooth device to this unit, Bluetooth function is selected. Play your music on the Bluetooth device. ,,Note yy The Bluetooth unit which is not paired with this unit, cannot use the auto function change. yy If you change the this unit’s function to other function, some Bluetooth unit may try to connecting in succession. Disconnect the Bluetooth connection before changing of the this unit’s function. 4 Operating 36 Operating AUTO POWER On This unit automatically turns on by an input source : Bluetooth. When you turn on your external device connected to this unit, this unit recognizes the input signal and select the suitable function. You can hear the sound from your device. If you try to connect your Bluetooth device, this unit turns on and is paired automatically. And then play your music. ,,Note yy After the unit is turned on by AUTO POWER function, it will be automatically turned off if there is no signal for a certain period of time from the external device. yy Depending on the connected device, this function may not operate. 4 Operating yy If you disconnect Bluetooth connection by this unit, some Bluetooth devices try to connect to the unit continually. Therefore it is recommended to disconnect the connection before turn off the unit. yy If you want to use AUTO POWER, SIMPLINK must be turned off. It takes for about 30 seconds to switch on or off SIMPLINK. yy If you have already paired with this unit automatically this unit can turn on by an input. yy If you turn off the unit by pressing the power button for more than 5 seconds, Auto Power On function is disabled.
