Adjusting the telescopic tube (depending on model) Slide the button on the tube downwards and set the tube to the most convenient length for working with. Connecting the suction hose Insert the hose holder into the suction opening. It will engage and is fully rotatable. When the hose is to be disconnected from the appliance, press the release button and pull the hose holder out of the suction opening. Mains connection/flex rewind To connect: The mains cable is located in the cable compart- ment. Pull the cable out and insert the plug into the socket. At the end of vacuuming: Puli the plug out of the socket. Press the foot- operated button, and the cable rewinds automa- tically. Carrying strap For convenient handling while you are vacuum- ing stairs and shelves, place the enclosed carry- ing strap through the Prakti handle and set it to the most convenient length for working with. Your VAMPYRino can thus be conveniently carried over your shoulder. 12 Using the accessory nozzles The nozzles are attached to the suction tube by pushing and twisting and taken apart by twisting and pulling. Using the VARIO 4100 floor cleaning head For the daily care of carpets and hard floors. The cleaning head is universally suitable for everyday cleaning of carpets and hard flooring, such as e.g. parquet flooring, ceramic tiling, linoleum, etc. There is no need to adjust the clea- ning head manually to suit different floor types. The four rollers, as well as the two wheels at the back of the cleaning head, give the VARIO 4100 extremely good manoeuvrability. You can even move it sideways. The rollers ensure a constant distance between the floor and the underside of the cleaning head. This allows even scratch-prone strip flooring to be cleaned. Accessory nozzles crevice nozzle, upholstery nozzle, and furniture brush The integrated accessories holder contains (depending on model) two or three accessory nozzles to suit the individual requirements of room care. The nozzles can be attached to the suction tube as well as to the handle of the suction hose. The accessories holder can be permanently fitted in place on the suction connection as shown in Fig. 1 or fixed in your broom cupboard with 2 screws (Fig. 2). Crevice nozzle For vacuuming in those normally inaccessible places, i.e. reaching cobwebs or cleaning down the sides of a sofa! E — de Ck Zr Upholstery nozzle For vacuuming upholstery, mattrasses, etc. The thread collectors help pick up threads and fluff. Furniture brush {depending on model) For gentle vacuuming of delicate fabrics and objects, such as e.g. curtains, furniture, books, pictures, etc. (Only from the Customer Service). For special nozzles, see special accessories. 13 Midi turbonozzle (depending on model) For gentle vacuuming of delicate wail fabrics and floor coverings as well as upholstery. Cleaning You can easily remove hairs and threads that have accumulated around the rollers as follows: Twist the nozzle union to the left or right into the position shown (Fig. a). Pull out the union to its fullest extent {Fig. b). The upper part of the nozzle can now be easily folded up (Fig. c) to enable you to clean it. Re-assemble the nozzle in the reverse sequence. Switching on Switching on and off oO Press the On/Off button to switch the vacuum cleaner on or off. Power control Adjusting the power with the rotating regulator The suction power can be adjusted to suit any vacuuming situation with the electronic power control. 250 W = For delicate fabrics, e.g. curtains, = upholstery 500 W = For upholstery 650 W.= Economy setting for light to normally soiled carpets ICE 750 W = For non-fitted carpets {mats and — rugs) Max. Power Regulation - Remote Control The electronic power regulation can be comforta- bly executed via the remote control in the handle. = For hard floors and heavily soiled carpets © с) > A Impulse transducer of the remote control B Stand-by position. For working pauses or short interruptions, you have to switch over to the stand-by setting - the vacuum-cleaning ope- ration will be interrupted in the process. C Step-less regulation up to the maximum power. D Step-less regulation up to the minimum power E Battery compartment for the remote control. The batteries should be renewed at least once per year. Only use alkaline batteries of type LRO3 AAA 1.5 Volt. Do not dispose of used batte- ries in domestic dustbin. Dispose of them in the special vessels prescribed by your municipality for this purpose. Instruction! Malfunction of the remote control can be caused by inappropriate spatial conditions (e.g. obstructions, partition walls, dark doors and furniture, very large window fronts, very high room ceilings or very dark paintings). To rectify this malfunction, please direct the handle of the suction hose in the direction of the vacuum cleaner. Infrared sources {sun, lower-energy lamps) can also impair the function. In this case remove the vacuum cleaner away from the disturbing light zone. Maintenance and cleaning Before the appliance is cleaned or maintained, it must be switched off and unplugged from the mains supply. | Changing the paper dustbag The dustbag needs changing when the cleaner is set to the maximum power and the cleaning head is off the floor, but the “bag full” indicator is completely coloured red. Even if the dustbag does not appear to be full at this stage, ¡t should be changed. It may well be that a great deal of very fine dust has clogged up the pores of the dustbag. Open and detach the cover by pressing the button. Hygienic dustbag change: When you take out the full dustbag, you automatically cover the open- ing by pulling on the closure tag. You may have to overcome a slight resistance as you pull. Full dustbags can be disposed of with your nor- mal household refuse. Push the new dustbag into the guide rails as far as it will go. Only then will the cover close. If no dustbag is inserted, the cover cannot be shut. Please do not use force! Changing the microfilter We recommend you change the microfilter with every fifth dustbag. It should be at the very least changed if the "dustbag full” indicator is coloured red and the nozzle is off the floor. Open the side cover and fold it up as far as it will go. Lift the used microfilter (illustrated) using the hygiene strips and dispose of it with your normal household refuse. Insert a new microfilter and reclose the cover. Motor protection filter The motor protection filter is a permanent filter 15 which does not need regular maintenance. The only exception is if the dustbag is damaged and the motor protection filter gets soiled. In this case, take out the motor protection filter, clean (simply by knocking out the dust), and re-insert it. Fit a new dustbag. Cleaning Ciean the housing and dustbag compartment as necessary using a damp cloth and rub dry. -Do not use any proprietary cleaner or solvent. Occasionally clean the cleaning head and brush strips with the crevice nozzle. Paper dustbag VAMPYRino E-No. 900 087 609 ET-NO. 668 901 269 Dustbag size 5 Transportation and storage For easier storage and transporting the appli- ance, slide the fioor cleaning head into the stor- age rail. Park system For short breaks during vacuuming, use the park rail to support the suction hose and cleaning head. Slide the holder on the nozzle into the park rail. Wall holder {depending on model) 1 \, * | The wall holder can be used to save you space by being fixed with the enclosed screws on the inside of a storage cupboard (the minimum thickness of the wall must be 16 mm). For mount- ing outside a cupboard (wall mounting), use suitable fixtures to ensure secure retention (the appliance weight is around 5.0 kg) (Figs. 2+3). If you think your vacuum cleaner is not working properly ... | .... the nozzle is hard to slide Reduce the power of the appliance. The cleaning action is then not impaired. ... the motor overheating protection engages If the motor is overloaded, such as e.g. through the dustbag being full or the nozzle accessories being clogged, the overheating protection swit- ches the motor off. You should then switch off ~ the appliance, unplug it from the mains supply, and let the motor cool. Check the paper dustbag, suction tube, and suction hose, and remove any blockage. After around 30 minutes, the appliance can be switched on again. ... the fuse blows or trips If you connect other electrical appliances with a high wattage to the same mains circuit and use them at the same time as your vacuum cleaner, this can trip the fuse. 16 This can be avoided if you set the electronic power control to the lowest level before you switch on and only select a higher output level after switching on. ... the wheels and rollers of the VARIO 4100 floor cleaning head start seizing up Remove any hairs or threads that have become wrapped around the wheels and rollers. The wheels and rollers can be removed for clean- ing. Pull wheels (A) sideways as illustrated. Remove hairs and threads, and push the wheels back in place until you hear an audible click. The four small rollers (B) can be simply levered out of their location using a firm object (screwdriver) (please observe the arrow direc- tion). Insert the screwdriver as illustrated (B) in the slanted insertion point and lever out the rol- ler. Remove hairs and threads. Push the roller back in place. Caution: Place the flat of the hand over the roller when levering out. This avoids the roller springing out. ... the thread collectors are worn out If the thread collectors (C) at the suction opening are worn out or stuck together, you can fit new ones. They can be ordered from your AEG service centre under ET-No. 668 901 690. ... the cover will not close Check that you have inserted a paper dustbag. Special accessories ROTOSOFT 1100 turbobrush The ROTOSOFT 1100 eases the care of carpets and hard floors.
