Directive EEC/89/336.
PREFACE
FEATURES
The Panasonic WV-CP120 offers a new low end colour
camera through the use of a 1/3 inch interline transfer
CCD image sensor.
A single coaxial cable connects the camera and specified monitor or camera drive unit, and carries four signals, audio, video, DC power and vertical drive pulses.
This simple system is specially designed for surveillance and security needs at offices, factories, schools,
hospitals, public or residential buildings, etc.
• Minimum illumination of 0.5 lx at F0.75 (equivalent
1.5 lx at F1.4) and signal-to-noise ratio of 46 dB by
a 1/3 inch interline transfer CCD image sensor with
512 (H) X 582 (V) pixels.
• A horizontal resolution of 330 lines.
• Adjustable video level of auto light control (ALC)
and electronic light control (ELC).
• Built-in automatic gain control (AGC +15dB) and
automatic tracing white balance control (ATW).
• Back light compensation (BLC) function for shooting objects in condition of background lighting
interference.
• Optional C-mount lens can be used together with
the WV-AD20 optional lens mount converter.
The model numbers listed in this Operating Instructions have no suffixed attached to it.
-2-
PRECAUTIONS
• Do not attempt to disassemble the camera.
To prevent electric shock, do not remove screws
or cover. There are no user-serviceable parts
inside.
Call a qualified service person for repairs.
• Never direct the camera toward the sun.
Whether the camera is in use or not, never direct it
toward the sun. Do use caution when operating
the camera in the vicinity of spotlights or other
bright lights and light reflecting objects.
• Handle the camera with care.
Do not abuse the camera. Avoid striking or shaking it. The camera could be damaged by improper
handling or storage.
• Do not operate the camera beyond its temperature or humidity range.
Do not use the camera in an environment of high
temperature or humidity. Use the camera under
ambient conditions of −10°C - +50°C (14°F 122°F) in temperature and 90% or less in humidity.
• Do not expose the camera to rain or moisture,
or try to operate it in wet areas.
Do take immediate action if the camera becomes
wet. Turn power off and call a qualified service
person. Moisture can damage the camera and
also cause electric shock.

q Lens (Option)
See pages 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 for details on lens
selection. A standard C-mount lens can be used
with the camera by adding the optional lens mount
converter (C-mount adapter) WV-AD20.
u Video level Control (VIDEO LEVEL, L/H)
This control adjusts the level of auto iris control
when the ALC/ELC Switch 1!1 is set to ALC position, or the level of electronic light control when the
ALC/ELC switch is set to ELC position.
w Flange-back Adjusting Ring
This ring is used to adjust the back focal length or
picture focus by rotating it.
i ATW Balance Control (ATW BALANCE, R/B)
This control adjusts the red and blue colour balance. It is preset to centre position which usually
provides accurate colour reproduction.
e Video Output jack (VIDEO OUT)
This jack is used to adjust the angular field of view
or focus while observing the picture on the monitor.
o Power Indicator
!0 Camera Output Connector
This connector is used to connect a coaxial cable
to the CAMERA INPUT of the specified monitor or
camera drive unit, to receive DC power and vertical drive pulse, and supply the audio and video
output of the camera.
r Camera Mounting Screw Hole
This screw hole (1/4" - 20) is used to mount the
camera onto a mounting bracket or a tripod.
t Auto Iris Lens Connector
This 4-pin connector supplies power and the DC
control signal to the auto iris lens.
!1 ALC/ELC Switch (ALC/ELC)
This switch is used to choose the lens as follows.
ALC: Choose this position when using an auto iris
lens.
ELC: Choose this position when using a fixed or
manual iris lens.
y Volume Control (VOLUME, MIN/MAX)
The volume control is preset to centre position at
the factory. Adjust it to prevent howling.
-5-
!2 Detail level Switch (SOFT/SHARP)
The detail/aperture level can be chosen by this
switch. Choose the desired position while observing the picture on the monitor.
Note: Usually choose SHARP position. When a
Quad System is connected to this camera, set
this switch to SOFT position.
ELC (Electronic Light Control) Function
In this mode a continuously variable electronic shutter
is employed to automatically control the exposure
times in the CCD Image Sensor according to the
incoming light level.
Cautions:
1. Under bright conditions such as outdoors, use an
ALC type lens as the ELC control range is not wide
enough under such conditions.
2. Under certain unique lighting conditions, the following may appear :
• Strong smear and/or blooming on highlight objects
such as spot lights or windows.
• Noticeable flicker in the picture and/or colour rendition variations.
• Periodic variance of white balance
Should these phenomena occur, use an ALC lens.
3. When shooting in the ELC mode with a fixed iris
lens, the depth of field of the image may be less
than that obtained with an ALC lens. Depth of field
varies inversely with the iris opening.
Thus, using the camera in the ELC mode with the
fixed iris lens fully opened will result in less depth
of field than if an ALC lens were used. (In addition,
distant objects in the picture might not be in
focus.)
!3 BLC ON/OFF Switch (BLC, ON/OFF)
When backlight affects the picture, set this switch
to ON position for a clearer picture.
!4 Microphone Switch (MIC, ON/OFF)
Set this switch to ON or OFF as needed.
-6-
BLC (Backlight Compensation) Function
CAMERA SETUP
Remove the rear cover fixing screw and pull the rear
cover out as shown below.
To improve perfomance, select the function switches
located on the back.
ON
OFF
When strong, unwanted background lighting interferes
with the clarity of important scene objects, turn this
switch to “ON” position.
Cautions:
1. Setting this switch to “BLC OFF” position is recommended when using the pan/tilt head or when the
illumination of the object changes rapidly, since
the Lens iris speed is slowed in “BLC ON” position.
2. If the desired objects are not in the centre of the
picture, backlight compensation may not work
effectively.
