Precautions Volume Level Power Supply For your driving safety, keep the volume level low enough to be aware of road and traffic conditions. This product is designed to be used in a car having a 12Volt negative ground battery system. Car Washing Disc Mechanism To avoid electrical shorts which may cause fire, or other damage, do not expose this product (including the speakers and CDs) to water or excessive moisture. Do not insert coins or any small objects. Keep screwdrivers and other metallic objects away from the disc mechanism and disc. Car Ventilation Service If your car is parked for several hours in direct sunlight, the temperature inside the car may become very high. B V Door Caution Label DANGER C CD Changer Unit Laser Product 4 Location of Controls Laser products: Wave Length 780 nm Laser Power No hazardous radiation is emitted with safety protection. Do not take apart this unit or attempt to make any changes yourself. This unit is a very intricate device that uses a laser pickup to retrieve information from the surface of compact discs. The laser is carefully shielded so that its rays remain inside the cabinet. Therefore, never try to disassemble the player or alter any of its parts since you may be exposed to laser rays and dangerous voltages. CX-DP880N 5 E N G L I S H Preparations Loading and Removing a CD Loading and Removing the Magazine 3 Cautions: ¡Be sure to use the magazine supplied with the unit as an accessory, or the optional magazine CA-MP801D. Any other magazines can not be used. ¡Never use protect film or stabilizer commercially available as a CD accessory for the unit because it may cause trouble. ¡Do not use irregularly-shaped CD. Failure to observe this may cause malfunction. To Load a CD Magazine Tray q Place the CD magazine with the disc mark facing upward, and pull out trays fully one after another from the magazine. w Place a CD on the tray. e Push the tray straightforward into the magazine until it clicks in position. q 4 To Load the Magazine q Slide the door to the left until it is fully open with a click. q w Check the unit for its top and magazine inserting direction, and carefully push the magazine into it until you hear a click. Note: When inserting the magazine, follow the sign marked on the magazine for the inserting direction. w Disc Mark e Close the door fully until you hear a click. Caution: Be sure to keep the CD unit door closed to prevent dirt and dust from getting into the unit and causing possible malfunctions. Note: Be careful not to insert more than one disc on a single tray to protect the unit from any unexpected troubles. CD with the labeled side w To Remove the Magazine Turn the key in the ignition until the accessory indicator lights. Switch the power on of your receiver. q q Open the door. To Remove a CD Pull out trays from the magazine to the stopper position, and take a compact disc from each of them by hand. Be careful not to allow the disc to drop to the ground while taking it out. E N G L I S H e w w Press the eject button (u). The magazine will eject automatically. Eject button (u) e Pull the magazine straight in the arrow direction until it comes off the unit. e Note: Carefully handle the magazine since discs may be disengaged and come out, if the magazine is placed with its discinserting port facing downward. 6 CX-DP880N For a description of the functions, refer to the operating instructions for the control unit. (CQ-RD153N etc.) CX-DP880N 7 E N G L I S H Troubleshooting Preliminary Steps Check and take steps as described in the tables below. 5 If You Suspect Something Wrong Immediately switch power off. Disconnect the power cable and check that there is neither smoke nor heat from the unit before asking for repairs. Never try to repair the unit yourself because it is dangerous to do so. Cautions: ¡Do not use the unit if it malfunctions or something is wrong. ¡Do not use the unit in an irregular condition, for example, no sound, smoke or foul smell, which can cause ignition or electric shock. Immediately stop using the unit and call the store where you purchased it. Product Service If the suggestions in the charts do not solve the problem, we recommend that you take it to your nearest authorized Panasonic Service Center. The product should be serviced only by a qualified technician. Trouble Shooting Tips Trouble Cause/Step Disc is upside down. aPlace disc in the correct direction with the label side up. No sound is reproduced, even if the CD changer mode is active on the control unit. aSome CD-R/RWs can not be played back successfully thanks to incompatibility among writing software, a CD recorder (CD-R/RW drive) and the discs. Refer to instructions for the concerned devices for details. The CD magazine is not correctly inserted. aAttempt to insert the CD magazine correctly. Possible Cause/Possible solution Displays when the compact disc is dirty or when it is inverted. Next compact disc is automatically selected. Displays when the compact disc has a scratch on it. Next compact disc is automatically selected. Displays when the unit stops operating for some reason. Press the eject button of changer unit. The CD magazine is not correctly inserted. aRefer to “Loading and Removing the Magazine” for details. (a Page 7) A disc that has data other than CD-DA (ex. MP3, WMA) is loaded. aDiscs that have CD-DA data should be used. The CD magazine is defective. aPress the reset switch. Contact the shop from which you purchased it or your nearest Panasonic Service Center. Display Cords are not correctly connected. aConnect the cords crrectly. The power switch on the control unit is not turned ON. aTurn on the power switch on the control unit. 6 Error Display Messages Disc is dirty. aClean disc, referring to the section on “Notes on CD/CD Media (CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM)” (a Page 14). No sound is heard when inserting a CD magazine containing a compact disc. Cause/Step E N G L I S H Displays when there is no disc in the disc magazine. ¡Numbers before E1, E2 are error disc numbers. ¡Display messages differ depending on the control unit. If the Unit Begins to Operate Malfunctionally... The CD changer is not correctly mounted. aSecurely fix the main body with a location almost free from vibration. Music sounds skip due to vibration. Sounds skip occasionally. Press the reset switch with a sturdy and pointed object when any operations do not function. If the unit does not become restored even after pressing the reset switch, contact your nearest Panasonic Service Center for service. The mounting screws are tightened in the wrong directions. aSet the mark “V” or “H” of the angle adjust screws to the correct mounting direction. aSome CD-R/RWs can not be played back successfully thanks to incompatibility among writing software, a CD recorder (CD-R/RW drive) and the discs. Refer to instructions for the concerned devices for details. Do not share the power line that connects to the battery directly such as the line to an external power amplifier. This product operates only in a 12-volt DC negative ground system. 2. Before performing installation and wiring, remove the negative (–) terminal of the battery. Symbols corresponding to the mounting angles are marked near the respective holes. Select the correct holes in accordance with the mounting angles to be used. CX-DP880N 13 E N G L I S H 11 Maintenance Fuse The unit is designed and manufactured to ensure the minimum of maintenance. Use a soft cloth for routine exterior cleaning. Never use benzine, thinner, or other solvents. Fuse Replacement Notes on CD/CD Media (CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM) IF YOU USE COMMERCIAL CDs, ONLY USE DISCS CARRYING THE LABEL ON THE RIGHT. How to hold the disc ¡Do not touch the underside of the disc. ¡Do not scratch on the disc. ¡Do not bend disc. ¡When not in use, keep disc in the case. Use fuses of the same specified rating (3 A). Using different substitutes or fuses with higher ratings, or connecting the unit directly without a fuse, could cause fire or damage to the unit. 12 If the fuse blows frequently, there may be something wrong with the unit. Consult your nearest Panasonic Service Centre for service. Fuse 3 A Note: Remove the mounting bracket before fuse replacement. Label side Specifications Do not use irregularly shaped discs. Do not write on the disc label in a heavy pen or ballpoint pen. Notes on CD-Rs/RWs ¡You may have trouble playing back some CD-R/RW discs recorded on CD recorders (CD-R/RW drives), either due to their recording characteristics or dirt, fingerprints, scratches, etc. on the disc surface. You can use standard 12 cm CD-DA discs. The CX-DP880N does not support 8 cm CDs, MP3/WMA files, video CDs, or unfinalized discs.
How do I clean the discs?

What should I do if the fuse blows?
