To operate on battery power, unplug the AC adaptor unit from the household AC power outlat and tha DC input jack from the unit. Adjust the volume control. - 4. The radio can be turned off by setting the function/band selector to “TAPE/ OFF". E FM mode selector To receive FM stereo broadcasts, set the FM mode selector to “ST”. If FM stereo reception is poor (excessive noise), set the FM mode selector to "MONO”, This will reduce the noise and provide more clear recep- tion, however, the broadcast will not be heard in stereo. H Antennas FM: The stereo earphones cord serves as the FM antenna, hence be sure to usa it extended, not coiled. . Be sure to connect the headphones even if the monitor speaker is used. AM: The sensitive ferrite core antenna inside the set will provide excellent AM reception in most areas. For optimum reception, turn the set in the direction which glves the best results, since the ferrite core antenna is directional. ko 10 eBe sure 10 have the set in an upright position when you listen to AM broadcasts. If you use the radio in a horizonta! position. it may not function adequately. TAPE PLAYBACK (+E) 1. Open the cassette compartment cover with your hand. Insert a cassette as shown in the figure, and then close the cassette compartment cover. 2. Set the function/band selector to “TAPE loFF}". 3. Press the playback button, and playback will begin. 4. Adjust the voiume control. 5. To stop the playback. press the stop but- ton. Note: Be sure to set the pause switch to "OFF" to playback the tape. sFast play awlich {only for RQ-A170) When the fast play switch sets to "FAST PLAY”, the tape will be played at about 20% higher speed than normal. W Tape selector Set the tape selector to the appropriate position according to the type of the tape being used. - CrOajmeTaLl Metal tape;high bias chromium tape or equivalent . NOR: Low bias ferric oxide tape - EH Auto reverse - During playback whan the tape comes to the end - of its travel, the tape direction changes automati- cally to start playing the opposite side of the tape. - Tape direction can be reversed manually curing - playback by the direction selector. № Fast forward and rewind The tape will rapidly advance in the forward or reverse direction when one of the fast buttons is pressed. | Notes: : #When the tape reaches the end by pressing : one of ihe fasi buttons, the tape movement stops. but the unit is not turned off. Do not | leave the set in this condition. Be sure to press the stop button. e Do not press the playback button during fast forward or rewind, as this may jam the tape. Always press the stop button first. between operations. 12 RECORDING This unit has an automatic level control system (the recording level is automatically adjusted). You can record on the forward side of the tape. When the tape reaches the end during recording, recording will stop automatically. Make sure to use a cassette with recording tabs in pace.
