Battery compartment IS inside the cassette holder.
eWhen the batteries are weak, the OPR/BATT indicator
will become dim or turn off during operation, and this unit
will turn off to protect the ‘memorized contents. When
replacing the batteries, manage it within 30 seconds, or
the memorized contents will be cancelled.
e For AC power operation, take off the attached rubber cap
and connect the AC adaptor (RP-AC31, optional) to the
DC IN jack,
If you disconnect the AC adaptor unit from the AC power
outlet, the memorized contents for the radio will be
cleared,
Water resistant (Splash proof)
This unit is splash-proof and is not designed to be used
under water.
Please note the following points to avoid possibie damage
to the unit and the included headphones.

Maintenance
elf the head assembly is extremely dirty, clean it with a soft
cloth dampened with a little alcohol.

e Do not clean the cabinet with benzine or thinner.
Clean it with a solution of soap and water.

You cannot activate front panel buttons when the HOLD
switch is set to "HOLD" (Hold state}. @
Before using any of the front panel buttons, move the
HOLD switch to release the hold state. )
Listening to the radio
1. Release the Hold state.
2. Press RADIO ON/OFF to switch on the radio.
The OPR/BATT indicator will illuminate and the fre-
quency display will appear.
3. Press «FM/AM to select the band (FM or AM).
4. Press the + or — button to tune in your favorite
station.
The frequency display will change. (AM step by 9 kHz,
FM step by 0.05 MHz)
When tuning into a station, the TUNING indicator will
illuminate. If itis an FM stereo broadcast, “STEREO” will
be shown on the display.
5. Adjust the VOLUME control.
N To stop the radio
Press RADIO ON/OFF.
EN Antennas
FM:
Since the headphones cord serves as the FM antenna, be
- sure to use it extended, not coiled.
AM:
— The built-in ferrife core AM antenna is directional. Tum the
unit to obtain optimum reception.
E FM mode selector
To receive FM stereo broadcasts, set the FM MODE selec-
tor to “ST”. If the reception is poor (excessive noise), set to
“MONO”. This will reduce the noise and provide clear re-
ception, however, the broadcast will not be heard in stereo.
E Preset tuning
Total 20 stations can be stored.
You can store each station separately as follows,
MODE1: FM: 1,2,3,4,5 AM: 1,2345
MODEZ: FM: 1,234,5 AM: 1.2345
It is recommended that you use MODET for daily, and
MODEZ for travel.
Mode selecting
Press and hold «== MODE for more thar 2 seconds.

Memory presetting
1. Tune in a station to be stored. - - 0 a
2. Press and hold one af the memory butions (1,2, 3,4.5)
for more than 2 seconds.
3 beeps can be heard.
Memory tuner operation
Press one of the memory buttans (1,2,3,4,5).
Notes:
Tape playback
1. Insert the cassette. [1
When closing the cassette holder, turn the screw until it
locks with the cassette holder pushed against the unit.
To remove the cassette IF
- Open the holder fully until vou hear click, and slide up
the casseite.
2. Set the TAPE selector, according to the tape used.
NCR: Normal type
CrOz [MTL]: Chromium and metal type
3. Press Ap,
The OPR/BATT indicator will illuminate.
“TAPE” appears on the display.
4. Adjust the VOLUME control.
e Play will be continued, locping forward and reverse side,
until is pressed.
e Tape direction can be reversed manually using the DIA
selector.
M To stop playback
Press E.
E To fast forward and rewind
Press «dor > button.
The tape will rapidly move in the direction of the arrow.
«Do not open the cassette compartment cover during tape
operation. a
— eBetween functions (during play, fast forward or rewind),
always press IN first to avoid jamming the tape.
eWhen the tape reaches the end after fast forward or
rewind, press M to release the button.
elf you press RADIO ON/OFF to switch on the radio during
tape operation, the button will not be released even
though the motor has stopped. In this case, press IN to
release the button.
Changing the tone

Boosis the low frequency range.
«if the sound distortion occurs, turn down the volume.
VMSS
Boosts the low frequency range. Also, the vibration of the
earpieces of the included headphones makes sound vig-
drous, LS i a
Raising the volume level makes the VMSS effect intensify.
#VMSS does not function for AM reception.
-*VMSS may not be effective according to the source.
