Ensure that the electrical and water connections comply with the installation instructions Special salt can be added in one of two ways: 2. Remove all packaging from inside the appliance ● If you are using dishwasher detergent that already contains salt, the detergent including the salt is placed in the detergent compartment. - In this case the water softener must be set to level 1 to ensure that the special salt is taken from the detergent container only. ● If you are using dishwasher detergent and salt separately, the special salt is to be put into the salt container. - In this case the water softener must manually be set between 2 and 5 (depending on the water hardness in your area) to ensure that the special salt is taken from the detergent container only. 3. Set the water softener 4. Pour 1 litre of water inside the salt container and then fill with salt 5. Fill the rinse aid dispenser Setting the water softener The dishwasher is equipped with a water softener designed to remove minerals and salts from the water supply, which would have a detrimental or adverse effect on the operation of the appliance. The higher the content of these salts, the harder your water is. Water hardness is measured in equivalent scales, Clarke degrees, French degrees and PPM (parts per Million). The softener should be adjusted according to the hardness of the water in your area. Your local Water Authority can advise you on the hardness of the water in your area. The dishwasher is factory set at level 2. If this level is not suitable for your area the softener should be adjusted. Only use salt specifically designed for use in dishwashers. All other types of salt not specifically designed for use in a dishwasher, especially table salt, will damage the water softener. Only fill with salt just before starting one of the washing programmes (not the Rinse and Hold programme). This will prevent any grains of salt or salty water, which may have been spilt, remaining on the bottom of the machine for any period of time, which may cause corrosion. Open the door, remove the lower basket and unscrew the cap of the salt container by turning it anticlockwise. 2. Pour 1 litre of water inside the container (this is necessary only before filling with salt for the first time). 3. Using the funnel provided, pour in the salt until the container is full. To adjust the water softener Level 1 4. Replace the cap making sure that there is no trace of salt on the screw thread or on the gasket. If your water is level 1 it is already soft and therefore there is no need to use salt. Levels 3 and 5 5. Screw on the cap tightly turning it clockwise until it stops with a click. (water softener adjustment) If your water is level 3 or 5, proceed as follows: - slide out the lower basket and unscrew the cap of the salt container; - turn the two-position selector anticlockwise from position - to position + with the aid of a blunt knife or screwdriver. The salt cap has a refill indicator window in the centre. A green float is clearly visible when there is salt inside the container and almost disappears when the salt has finished reminding you to add salt. AA01 Do not worry if water over flows from the unit when filling with salt, this is quite normal. (adjustment on the machine) With a water hardness of level 5 both adjustments must be made. SR02 The salt container will require topping up periodically. Levels 4 and 5 If your water is level 4 or 5, open the door and drill the membrane (A) on the upper left-hand corner of the machine. LE SA LT SA LZ SA L SE A SR11 AA04 5 Ensure that the lid is closed after every refill. Rinse aid Clean up any rinse aid spilt during filling with an absorbent cloth to avoid excess foaming during the next wash. Rinse aid is automatically added during the last rinse, ensuring thorough rinsing, and spot and streak free drying. The dispenser, which is positioned inside the door, holds about 110 ml of rinse aid, which is sufficient for 16 - 40 dishwashing programmes, depending upon the dosage setting. Use only branded rinse aid for dishwashers. Never fill the rinse aid dispenser with any other substances (e.g. dishwasher cleaning agent, liquid detergent). This would damage the appliance. Rinse aid can be added in one of two ways: Adjusting the dose If you are using dishwasher detergent that already contains rinse aid, the detergent including the rinse aid is placed in the detergent compartment. - In this case the rinse aid compartment must be empty. If in the rinse aid dispenser there is still rinse aid you must wait until it has finished before using detergent that contains rinse aid. ● According to the finish and drying results obtained, adjust the dose of rinse aid by means of the 6 position selector (C) (position 1 minimum dosage, position 6 maximum dosage). Increase the dose if there are drops of water or lime spots on the dishes after washing. Reduce it if there are sticky whitish streaks on the dishes. If you are using dishwasher detergent and rinse aid separately, the rinse aid is to be put into the rinse aid dispenser. - In this case the rinse aid dosage must be set in position from 1 to 6 (see "Adjusting the dose"). ● Filling with rinse aid 1. Open the container by turning the lid (A) anticlockwise. BR02 2. Add the rinse aid until the container is completely full. The indicator (B) will be completely dark. 3. Top up the rinse aid when the indicator (B) becomes clear. BR01 BR03 In daily use ● Check if it’s necessary to refill with special salt or rinse aid ● Load cutlery and dishes into the dishwasher. ● Fill with dishwasher detergent . ● Select a wash programme suitable for the cutlery and dishes. ● Start the wash programme. ● Loading cutlery and dishes Sponges, household cloths and any object that can absorb water may not be washed in the dishwasher. ● Before loading the dishes, you should: - Remove large left-overs. - Soften remnants of burnt food in pans 6 When loading the dishes and cutlery, please note: - Dishes and cutlery must not impede the rotation of the spray arms . - Load hollow items such as cups, glasses, pans, etc. with the opening downwards so that water cannot collect in the container or a deep base. - Dishes and items of cutlery must not lie inside one another, or cover each other. - To avoid damage to glasses, they must not touch. - Lay small objects in the cutlery basket. For washing in the dishwasher the following cutlery/dishes are of limited suitability: are not suitable: - Cutlery with wooden, horn, china or mother-of-pearl handles - Only wash stoneware in the dishwasher if it is specifically marked as being dishwasher-safe by the manufacturer. - Plastic items that are not heat resistant - Glazed patterns may fade if machine washed frequently - Older cutlery with glued parts that is not temperature resistant - Silver and aluminium parts have a tendency to discolour during washing. Left-overs, e.g. egg white, egg yolk and mustard often cause discolouring and staining on silver. Therefore always clean left-overs from silver immediately, if it is not to be washed straight after use. - Bonded cutlery items or dishes - Pewter or copper items - Lead crystal glass - Some types of glass can become dull after a large number of washes - Steel items subject to rusting - Wooden platters - Items made from synthetic fibres Open the door and slide out the baskets to load the dishes. The upper basket The upper basket is designed for plates (dessert plates, saucers, dinner plates of up to 24 cm in diameter), salad bowls, cups and glasses. Arrange items on and underneath the cup rack so that water can reach all surfaces. Glasses with long stems can be placed upside down in the cup rack. Light items (plastic bowls etc.) must be loaded in the upper basket and arranged so they do not move. The lower basket The lower basket is designed to take saucepans, lids, plates, salad bowls, cutlery etc. Serving dishes and large lids should be arranged around the edge of the basket, ensuring that the upper spray arm can turn freely. US56 UI57 When loading the upper basket, ensure that you do not cover the water inlet funnel in the middle of the upper basket. UI12 The cutlery basket Long bladed knives stored in an upright position are a potential hazard. Long and/or sharp items of cutlery such as carving knives must be positioned horizontally in the upper basket. Take care when loading or unloading sharp items such as knives. US16 US16 Cutlery should be placed in the removable cutlery basket with the handles facing downwards. If the handles protrude from the bottom of the basket, obstructing the lower spray arm, load the cutlery with the handles facing upwards. Before closing the door, ensure that the spray arms can rotate freely. Mix spoons with other cutlery to prevent them from sticking together. Arrange spoons, dessert spoons, knives and other small items of cutlery in the rack on the side of the cutlery basket. UI08 7 Adjusting the height of the upper basket If washing very large plates (over 27 cm and up to 31 cm in diameter) you can load them in the lower basket after moving the upper basket to the higher position. To move to the higher position proceed as follows: 1. Move the front runner stops (A) of the upper basket outwards and slide the basket out. 2. Refit the basket in the higher position and replace the stops (A) in their original position. RC01 After loading your machine always close the door, as an open door can be a hazard. For all programmes with prewash, an additional detergent dose (5 g) must be placed over the lid of the dispenser. This detergent will take effect during the prewash phase Use of detergent Only use detergents specifically designed for use in dishwashers. Using no more then the correct amount of detergent contributes to reducing pollution. Fill with detergent Prior to the start of a wash programme. The detergent is released during the washing phase. DE02 Please observe the manufacturer’s dosing and storage recommendations as stated on the detergent packaging. We recommend the use of Finish detergents which are available in the following options: 1. Open the dispenser lid by pulling the catch (D). The lid springs open. Finish Double Action Tablets. Each tablet has the exact amount of detergent required, simply place in the dispenser. 2. Fill the detergent dispenser with detergent. The marking indicates the dosing levels: Finish Powder recommended for every day use. Finish Liquid Gel ideal for every day use. As the gel is extra gentle it is recommended for fine bone china. MIN = approximately 15 g of detergent MAX = approximately 30 g of detergent 3. Close the lid and press until it locks in place. DE17 For best results we recommend the use of Finish detergents, rinse aid and salt. Before using these products you should first check that the water hardness in your supply is compatible with the use of these products as per the detergent manufacturers (on the product packaging). 2. These products should be strictly used according to the detergent manufacturers instructions. Do not place the tablets in the tub or in the cutlery basket as this will result in poorer wash results. The tablets should be placed in the detergent dispenser. 3. If you encounter problems when using 3 in 1 products for the first time then please contact the detergent manufacturers care line (the telephone number is given on the product packaging). Special advice When using combination products, select the lowest possible setting for water hardness. For more information please refer to the instruction manual. If you decide to turn back to the use of the standard detergent system we advise that you: ● Refill both the salt container and rinse aid dispenser. ● Switch the water hardness setting to the highest possible position and run a normal washing programme without a load. ● Readjust the water hardness setting again according to the hardness of the water in your area. Concentrated detergent Based on their chemical composition, dishwasher detergents can be split into two basic types: - conventional, alkaline detergents with caustic components. - low alkaline concentrated detergents with natural enzymes. The use of 50°C washing programmes in conjunction with concentrated detergents reduces pollution and is good for your dishes; these wash programmes are specially matched to the dirt-dissolving properties of the enzymes in the concentrated detergent. For this reason 50°C wash programmes in which concentrated detergents are used can achieve the same results that can otherwise only be achieved using 65°C programmes. Detergent tablets Detergent tablets of different brands dissolve at different speeds. For this reason some detergent tablets cannot develop their full cleaning power during short programmes. Therefore please use normal programmes with prewash when using detergent tablets. 9 Washing programmes Programme Degree of soil and type of load RINSE AND HOLD Any. Check that the baskets have been loaded correctly and that the spray arms can rotate freely 2. Turn on the water tap 3. Close the dishwasher door 4. Setting and starting the programme Turn the programme selector dial clockwise until the number of the programme you wish to select (see "Washing programmes" chart) corresponds with the programme marker on the control panel. Press the "MAINS ON" push button, the "MAINS ON" indicator light will come on and the programme will start. 5. Interrupting a washing programme Interrupt a washing programme in progress ONLY if it’s absolutely necessary To interrupt a washing programme Attention! Hot steam may escape when the door is opened. There is risk of scalding. Open the door carefully. ● Open the dishwasher door; the programme will stop. Close the door; the programme will start from the point in which it was interrupted. ● pressing the MAINS ON push button (in this case the MAINS ON indicator light turns off). Press the MAINS ON push button again; the programme will start from the point in which it was interrupted. 6. End of the washing programme The dishwasher will automatically stop. Switch off the dishwasher by pressing the MAINS ON push button, the MAINS ON indicator light turns off. Hot steam may escape from the appliance when opening the door immediately after the end of the programme, therefore, open the door carefully. Unloading the dishwasher Hot dishes are sensitive to knocks. The dishes should therefore be allowed to cool down before removing from the appliance. Leave the dishes in the dishwasher for approx. 15 minutes, with the door ajar, after the end of programme so that they dry better and will be cooler. Empty the lower basket first and then the upper one; this will avoid water dripping from the upper basket onto the dishes in the lower one. When the washing programme has finished, it is recommended that the dishwasher is unplugged and the water tap turned off. 11 Maintenance and cleaning Clean the external surfaces of the machine and control panel with a damp soft cloth. If necessary use only neutral detergents. Never use abrasive products, scouring pads or solvent (acetone, trichloroethylene etc....). To ensure a correct working of the dishwasher, NEVER try to remove the upper spray arm. If residues of soil have clogged the holes in the upper spray arm, remove them with a toothpick. Ensure that the seals around the door, the detergent and rinse aid dispensers are cleaned regularly with a damp cloth. Prolonged periods of non-operation We recommend the use of Finish Dishwasher Cleaner every 3 months or run a 65°C wash programme without dishes using detergent. Regular use of Finish Dishwasher Cleaner cleans inaccessible parts, eliminates unpleasant food odours and helps prevent the build-up of limescale. If you are not using the machine for any period of time you are advised to: 1. Unplug the appliance and then turn off the water. 2. Fill the rinse aid dispenser. 3. Leave the door ajar to prevent the formation of any unpleasant smells. 4. Leave the inside of the machine clean. Cleaning the central filters (After each wash) Frost precautions Inspect the central filters (B) and (C) and remove any scraps of food with a brush, under running water. Filters (B) and (C) are both removed by lifting up the outer one (B) (pulling the central funnel upwards); the smaller filter (C) can be removed by pressing the two tongues (D). Once cleaned, refit the filters by pressing them down until they click into place. D Avoid placing the machine in a location where the temperature is below 0°C. If this is unavoidable, empty the machine, close the appliance door, disconnect the water inlet pipe and empty it. Moving the machine If you have to move the machine (moving house etc....): 1. Unplug it. 2. Turn the water tap off. 3. Remove the water inlet and discharge hoses. 4. Pull the machine out together with the hoses. Avoid over tilting the machine during transportation. C B MA02 MA08 Cleaning the large filter (Every week) Clean the large filter (A) on both sides under running water, using a brush. To take it out, remove the spray arm by pressing the two tongues (E), turn the ring (F) anticlockwise and then slide the whole part out. Refit the filter following the above instructions in reverse E order. A F MA03 The dishwasher must not be used without filters. Incorrect repositioning and fitting of the filters will produce poor washing results. Cleaning the filters is vital to ensure correct operation of the machine. 12 Something not working Certain problems are due to the lack of simple maintenance or oversights, which can be solved with the help of the instructions given here, without calling out an engineer. The dishwasher will not start or stops during operation, or all push buttons are inoperative except for the MAINS ON push button. Press the MAINS ON push button to switch the dishwasher off and carry out the following suggested corrective actions. Malfunction The machine does not fill with water. The dishwasher will not drain. The programme does not start There is a whistling noise during washing Possible cause Solutions The water tap is blocked or furred with limescale. Clean the water tap. The water tap is turned off. Turn the water tap on. The filter (where present) in the threaded hose fitting at the water inlet valve is blocked. Clean the filter in the threaded hose fitting. Water supply connections This dishwasher must be plumbed into a cold water supply. The water pressure must be within the limits given in the technical specifications. Your local Water Authority will advise you on the average mains pressure in your area. The dishwasher features fill and drain hoses which can be turned either to the left or the right to suit the installation. The locknut must be correctly fitted to avoid water leaks. Do not use, for the connection, old hoses which have been used in another appliance. Avoid bends or kinks in the hose which could prevent or slow down the water supply. If the machine is connected to new pipes or pipes which have not been used for a long time, you should run the water for a few minutes before connecting the inlet hose. This will prevent deposits of sand or rust clogging the inlet hose filter. Any plumbing work required to install this appliance should be carried out by a qualified plumber or competent person. Remove all packaging before positioning the machine. If possible, position the machine next to a water tap and a drain. Fitting under a counter (kitchen worktop or sink) By removing the machine’s worktop, you can install it under a close fitting sink unit or a pre-existing top, providing the dimensions of the recess correspond to those shown in the picture. 570- 820 600 450 IN04 CA17 Proceed as follows: - Remove the machine’s worktop by unscrewing the two front retaining screws, pull from the front and slide out the rear slots, lifting the worktop. Insert the machine after adjusting height and levelling with the adjustable feet. When inserting the machine, ensure that the water inlet and drain hoses are not kinked or squashed.
