The worktop can be adjusted either forwards or backwards up to 25 mm to make it possible to align the machine properly with the kitchen furniture. To do this, simply remove the securing screws from the front (Fig. 2): adjust the worktop as re- quired, then replace the previously removed screws. The machine can also be installed under the kitchen counter or under the sink. To do this, remove the worktop from the machine by un- screwing the two front securing screws and then release it from its rear catch. The dimensions of the special recess required to house the machine are given in Fig. 3. The inlet hose should be connec- ted to a 3/4" gas thread spout (Fig. 4-5) or to a quick-coupling tap (Press-Block) after inserting the special strainer A supplied with the machine. Make sure that the water supply pressure is within the limits indicated under the technical data. Water outlet connection The outlet hose should be firmly hooked over the edge of a sink by using the curved end delivered with the appliance (Fig. 7), or connected under the sink or to a suitable wa- ste pipe in the wall which should incorporate an air-break. The siphon must not be provided with a non-return valve (A-Fig. 6). The top of the drain hose (curved end) should not be lower than 40 cms (minimum) or higher than 100 cms (maximum) from the floor level. The water should be able to drain freely and, therefore, the outlet ho- se should not be choked or placed in such a way as to obstruct the 5 normal water flow. If an extension of the hose is required, it should not exceed 2 metres and the ex- tension itself should have at least the same inner diameter as the ma- chine's own drain hose. Electrical connection WARNING THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED. The machine operates on a rated voltage of 220-240 V (50 Hz). Maxi- mum power absorbed is approx. 3 kW. The domestic wiring system (including wall sockets, interior wi- ring, fuses and electricity meters) should therefore be adequate and suitable to carry such a load. The manufacturer declines any liability should this safety mea- sure not be observed. 1. If the plug fitted to the appliance is not suitable for your socket ou- tlet, it must be cut off, and the ap- propriate plug fitted. You should dispose of the cut-off plug, in order to prevent the hazard of electric shocks if it should be plugged into a 13 Amp socket in another part of your home. 2. IMPORTANT The wires in this mains lead are co- loured in accordance with the fol- lowing code: GREEN 8 YELLOW - EARTH BLUE - NEUTRAL BROWN - LIVE If you fit your own plug the colours of the wires in the mains lead may not correspond with the markings identifying the terminals in your plug. Fit the plug as follows: Connect the green and yellow (earth) wire to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter «E», or the earth symbol —, or co- loured green or green and yellow. Connect the blue (neutral) wire to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter «N», or co- loured black. Connect the brown (live) wire to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter «L», or co- loured red. 3.1 There is a fuse incorporated in- to the moulded plug. When neces- sary this should be replaced by a 13 Amp BS 1362 fuse. Only ASTA approved fuses should be used. 3.2 The fuse cover/carrier must be replaced if the fuse is changed. The correct fuse cover/carrier is the one shown by the coloured in- sert at the base of the plug. 3.3 The plug must not be used If the fuse cover/carrier is lost. A re- placement cover/carrier must be obtained from a Tricity Bendix Ser- vice Centre. There is a list of these at the end of this instruction book. This appliance complies with EEC directive No. 82/499 of 7/6/82 dealing with radio interfe- rence suppression. SOMETHING NOT WORKING Certain problems are due to lack of simple maintenance, or to oversi- ghts, and can be solved easily without having to call the Servicing Department. If the machine will not start Check that: m the door is correctly closed m the water tap is full open m the plug is perfectly inserted in the wall socket m the fuses of the wiring system are not blown. If the machine will not drain Check that: m the drain hose is not kinked m the filter is not clogged. If the dishes are not clean Check that: m the detergent used is suitable for dishwashers and the quantity di- spensed is correct m the crockery is correctly arranged in the baskets mthe spray arms turn freely and the nozzles are not obstructed u the filter is clean. If there are limestone deposits on the crockery Check that: mthere is enough salt in the container m there is enough rinse aid m sufficient rinse aid is being dispensed. If there are traces of tea, coffee or lipstick left on the crockery Check that: m the quantity of detergent loaded in the machine is insufficient. If the crockery is not completely dry If the crockery remains in the ma- chine for a long period of time after washing, condensation may occur on the inner walls of the dishwa- sher and on the crockery itself. Do not leave the crockery in the ma- chine for a long time. 15 USEFUL HINTS A dishwasher should be used to its full capacity to ensure the most economical and efficient perfor- mance. Place the crockery in the machine immediately after the meals, arran- ging the various pieces in the re- spective compartments. If only partial loads are placed in the ma- chine, carry out a rinse and hold programme. We would also suggest that you take into account the capacity and the space availability of your dishwasher when buying new crockery, particularly pots and pans, all of which should be suita- ble to be washed in the dishwa- sher. Pots The machine will also wash pots. Needless to say, the washing re- sults depend on how soiled the pots are. If there are plenty of dried up food scraps or if there are burnt scraps, it may be advisable to pre- rinse the pots by hand or to pre- soak them so as to loosen the scraps. Cutlery Do not place in your dishwasher cutlery with wooden, horn or bone handles or glued parts which will not withstand hot water. Silver Cutlery This may be washed in the dishwa- sher with very good results, provi- ded it does not come in touch with steel cutlery. The fact is that the oxidising effect of the soapy water might cause unsightly spots due to the chemical interaction between 14 the two metals. Therefore, they should be arranged separately in the cutlery basket. Aluminium Ware Aluminium is not suitable for dishwashing. Decorated Chinaware Some decorations might fade when machine-washed. You should not wash very old or very fine china in your machine. Crystalware and Plastic Unless these items are approved as dishwasher safe by the manufactu- rer, you should not wash them in your machine. If you are in any doubt about the sui- tability of any item for dishwashing, consult the manufacturer of that item. Press the button again to switch the light off, or to stop the pro- gramme at any time. Door Handle Grip it firmly, pull it outwards. To close the door, simply push it back till it engages. WATER SOFTENER Water contains varying amounts of lime and mineral salts, depending on the area where you live; these can be deposited on the dishes, leaving white marks. The dishwa- sher has a softener which uses special dishwasher salt to provide lime-free water. This ensures a bet- ter wash performance. Salt filling After unscrewing the cap, fill 1.5 kg of special dishwasher salt using the funnel supplied with the machi- ne into the container on the bottom (Fig. 8). Fill the container with water (this operation should be carried out during the first salt filling). Ca- refully replace the container screw cap, making sure that the threa- ding and the gasket have no trace of salt. After this, it will suffice to periodically top up the container with salt only. (Approximately every 40 washes). Important When the appliance is put into operation for the first time, it is recommended that you carry out a complete wash cycle without loa- ding any salt in the respective con- tainer. All salt refilling and topping up operations should be carried out immediately prior to starting any one of the complete wash cy- cles (with the exception of the RIN- SE & HOLD programme) in order to 7 prevent the possibility that any salt granules or salt water, which might flow out of the salt container during refilling, remain for some time on the bottom of the wash tub without being properly diluted. Use only special dishwasher salt. Tricity Bendix recommends Finish dishwasher salt. Adjusting the water softener The water softener is preset for water having a maximum hardness of 22% dH. This setting is designed to suit most situations. If the water hhardness exceeds 22° dH (up to a maximum of 45° dH), the water softener may be adjusted simply by piercing diaphragm “A” (Fig. 9). ADJUSTING BASKETS Top basket raising and lowering If very big plates (over 27 cms and up to 31 cms diameter) are used, the top basket will have to be raised to the upper position so that these items can be properly arranged in 8 the bottom basket. To raise the top basket proceed as follows: move the front runner stops (A) of the upper basket outward and slide the basket out; refit the basket in the higher posi- tion and replace the stops (A) in the original position. With the top basket on this upper position there is of course less loa- ding clearance in the basket itself (which will in fact only take dishes up to 15 cms) and this will also prevent utilisation of the basket’s raised cup compartments. Loading the crockery Prior to arranging the crockery in the baskets, do remove the bigger food scraps (such as tiny bones, fi- sh-bones, meat or vegetable scra- ps, fruit peels, etc.) to prevent the {ег from clogging, which would cause poor washing results. Open the door and slide out the baskets to be able to load the crockery. Replace the filters by pushing them back until you feel them click. The large fine-mesh filter (A) should be cleaned from time to time (about once every two months) on both sides with a suitable brush. To remove this large filter (A), take off the bottom spray arm, and un- lock part E Fig. 17. Replace the filter, reversing the above procedure, making sure that its outer rim fits correctly in its hou- sing on the tub bottom. The dishwasher should not be ope- rated without the filters being cor- rectly installed. Periodic cleaning of the filters is essential for a smooth and efficient operation of the ma- chine. Cleaning the spray arm nozzles The holes of the spray arm nozzles should not be obstructed as this would greatly reduce the effective- ness of the washing cycle. To remove the bottom spray arm release it from its securing catches (D - Fig. 17) and pull it out. To clean the nozzles of the top spray arm, slide out the top basket whereby the spray arm will become perfectly accessible. To remove it, disengage water inlet funnel from its coupling and un- screw the ring nut. Cabinet cleaning The outer cabinet and the facia- panel should be wiped periodically with a soft damp cloth and, if ne- cessary, with a little neutral deter- gent. Never use abrasive products which might scratch the surface. Long idle periods If the machine is not to be used for some time, it is advisable to take the following precautions: Disconnect the machine from the electrical network and from the wa- ter supply. Fill up the rinse aid container. Leave the door ajar to prevent bad smells from lingering in the machine. Leave the inner part of the machine clean, by carrying out a rinse and hold programme (No. 1). If you are moving It you are moving and the dishwa- sher is being transferred to a new location, make sure that the machi- ne is not tilted too much during transport. 13 WASHING PROGRAMMES Type of load and Programme ti Programme degree of soil knob setting Cycle description Partial load Cold rinse to prevent food 1 (to be completed RINSE scraps from drying and later in the day) sticking to the dishes y led к со prewash С ery soiled crockery, ain wash up to 65° 2 pots and cutlery INTENSIVE 2 cold rinses 1 hot rinse Normally soiled Main wash up to 65°C 3 crockery, pots, NORMAL 2 cold rinses pans and cutlery 1 hot rinse Normally soiled Short main wash up to 65°C 4 crockery ECONOMY 2 cold rinses | and cutlery 1 hot rinse CARE AND CLEANING Cleaning the filter assembly The filter assembly consists of a large circular fine-mesh filter (A) and two small cone-shaped filters (B-C), fitting one within the other, both being housed in the large filter (Fig. 16). We recommend that you inspect the two small filters B and C after each wash cycle, removing any food scraps. These two concentric filters can be removed simply by lifting them up. To remove the inner filter C, squeeze together the two small plastic tongues sticking out from the bottom of outer filter B. 12 Important When loading the crockery be ab- solutely sure not to obstruct the water inlet funnel at the centre of the upper basket. The dishwasher must be loaded correctly to ensure good washing results. After loading the crockery, make sure that the spray arms turn freely. Using the bottom basket (Fig. 11-12) The lower basket is designed to take pots, lids, dishes, salad- bowls, cutlery, plates etc. The cu- tiery should be placed into the spe- cial small removable basket. To obtain good washing results, it is recommended to intermix spoons with knives and forks so that they will not stick together. We also suggest that you stack the cutlery into the special small basket with the handles facing downwards. NI LP CIE г. Г la WHEE However, if the handles of your cu- tlery are very thin it is advisable to stack the cutlery with the handles facing upwards, so as to prevent them from sticking out from the bottom of the small basket and thereby blocking the lower spray arm. Using the top basket (Fig. 13-14) The top basket is designed to take dishes (dessert plates, saucers) plus cups and glasses which should be arranged as shown in the respective pictures. RINSE AID Loading the rinse aid The rinse aid dispenser, which au- tomatically dispenses the right amount of rinse aid at the proper ti- me, is located inside the dishwa- sher door. This special liquid pro- duct is essential to ensure prompt drying of the crockery and to make it come out crystal-clear since it prevents formation of stains due to the salts contained in the water. Filling Press catch A (Fig. 15) to open the container lid. Pour the rinse aid into the funnel. The container holds 110 cu.cms of rinse aid. Close the lid. The level can be checked through the level indicator (Fig. 15). Quantity The quantity of rinse aid dispensed automatically from the container can be adjusted, in each single ca- se, to compensate for hard or soft water, more being required for hard water and less for soft. The quan- tity can be adjusted by means of knob B. Important We would suggest that you initially leave the knob at position 1; if the crockery remains dull or shows oc- casional round spots you should increase the quantity of rinse aid to be dispensed. 10 DETERGENT Loading the detergent The washing powder should be poured into the compartment of the container (Fig. 15). If the lid of the container happens to be closed, to open it simply pu- sh back catch C which keeps it clamped down. Quantity of detergent The quantity to be loaded depends on the degree of soil and type of load. On the average, we recom- mend 2 teaspoonfuls (25 grams) if you have to wash normally soiled crockery, and up to 3 teaspoonfuls (30 grams) for heavily soiled crockery. After loading the detergent in the proper compartment, close the lid. The detergent will be automatically dispensed at the proper time. Important Only use detergents specially ma- de for dishwashers. To obtain fine washing results you should only use top quality detergents. An in- sufficient quantity of detergent will give poor washing results, whereas an excessive quantity will not im- prove the result but will only repre- sent a waste. Tricity Bendix recommends Finish Dishwasher Detergent. USING THE DISHWASHER Starting the machine After connecting the machine to the water supply and to the electric power supply, close the door and then proceed as follows: Turn the programme selector knob (5) to the required setting. Depress the ON pushbutton (1). At this point the pilot lamp will light up and the machine starts opera- ting. Stopping the machine When the wash cycle is completed, the machine stops automatically but the pilot lamp remains on. Press the ON/OFF button to swich the lamp off. If you want to stop the machine at any moment during the wash cycle, simply press the OFF pushbutton. To restart the machine, press this button again and the wash cycle will resume from where it was interrupted. It is not advisable to open the door during operation, although the ma- chine does incorporate a safety de- vice which stops operation when the door is opened. We would also recommend, at the end of a wash cycle, that you turn off the water tap and unplug the machine from the wall socket. 11 ">
