Cable compartment (Figure 3)
Your coffee machine has a cable com-
partment. If the lead to the socket is
too long you can store surplus cable in
the base of the casing.
Prior to Using for the First Time
Before making coffee for the first time
you should carry out one or two brew-
ing procedures with water only, but
with a full quantity, in order to clean
the coffee machine.
Fill the fresh water container to the
top cup marking with cold water. Do
not use mineral water. Then switch the
appliance on and allow the water to
flow through into the coffee jug. Do
not use ground coffee or a filter paper.
Throw away the water that has run
through.

Making Coffee
1. Filling with water (Figure 4)
Raise the lid above the water tank.
Remove the water tank and fill with
clear, cold water.
Never use hot water. Nor should you
fill! the water tank with milk, prepared
coffee, tea etc.
The cup markings are on the water
tank (Figure 1/B). The markings apply
10
i
to the quantity of fresh water. As the
ground coffee absorbs water, the
amount of coffee produced will be less.
Insert the water tank and lower the lid
into place again.
Tip: Rinse the thermos jug with hot
water to warm it before preparing
coffee.
2. Inserting filter paper
(Figure 5)
Press the button to open the swivel fil-
ter (Figure 1/F). The filter automatically
swivels to the left (Figure 5). Place size
4 fitter paper in the filter insert. Please
fold over the perforated sides first.
3. Putting in ground coffee
(Figure 6)
Please use medium ground coffee. The
amount of ground coffee used depends
on taste. One measuring spoon full
(approx. 6-7 g) per cup is sufficient for
a medium strength coffee. Swivel the
filter back until it clicks into place.
Check that the filter insert is correctly
positioned {Figure 7).
4, Placing the thermos jug with
screw-on lid on the plate
Place the thermos jug with the lid
screwed on (clockwise) on the plate.
The lid must always be screwed onto
the thermas jug as it opens the anti-
drip valve. Despite the lid being closed
the coffee can enter the thermos jug
through a baffle device. It will stay
warm in the jug for some time.
5. Switching on the appliance
(Figure 8)
Now switch the appliance on using the
onfoff switch (Figure 8/2). The power
indicator light (Figure 8/1) is illumi-
hated.
To obtain an even strength of coffee
you should stir it in the thermos jug
after it has been made.
6. Removing the thermos jug
- Once the thermos jug has been
removed the anti-drip valve prevents
further dripping onto the plate
(Figure 9). For this reason you should
check that the filter insert is correctly
positioned {Figure 7).
To pour the coffee, open the lid of the
thermos jug by turning anticlockwise
until you feel it click into place {or
until the marking is positioned above
the pouring lip). After pouring out the
required quantity, close the lid by turn-
ing it clockwise as far as it will go in
order to keep the remaining coffee
warm.
When all of the water has flown
through and you want to add more
water in order to make more coffee,
please switch the appliance off and
leave it to cool for approx. 5 minutes.
Frothing or Heating Milk
You can use the frothed milk spout
(Figure 2/A, B, C, D) to make cappuc-
cino, café au lait and cocoa or simply
to heat up milk (for example as a drink
with honey when suffering from a
cold) or water.
Attach the milk frothing nozzle as fol-
lows (Figure 10):
Insert the knob for regulating the froth
(Figure 2/A) into the suction piece (Fig-
ure 2/B) and press firmly.
Insert the suction piece (Figure 2/D)
into the connector, and connect the
milk discharge outlet (Figure 2/C) to
the connector,
Firmly push the complete frothed
milk spout onto the steam nozzle
(Figure 1/J) until the red seal on the
steam nozzle is no longer visible.
Leave the appliance switched on after
the coffee has been prepared.
Wait until the temperature indicator
(Figure 8/3) is illuminated to show that
the steam temperature has been
reached.
pie
8
=
Warning: the temperature indicator
(Figure 8/3) goes off occasionally as
part of the way the machine functions.
The necessary steam temperature is
reached quickly when the steam selec-
tor is turned to the right.
Fill a container with, for example, cold
milk.
You can suck up the milk directly from
the carton using the flexible hose
(Figure 2/E).
important: the milk carton must not
exceed the height of the frothing noz-
zte. The flexible hase must be inserted
down into the milk carton.
To do this attach the hose to the
frothing nozzle and insert the other
end of the hose into the milk carton
(Figure 11).
Place an empty cup underneath the
frothing nozzle (Figure 11}.
Turn the steam selector (Figure 8/4) to
the right. The milk will then be sucked
out of the container. Inside the frothed
milk spout it is mixed with steam,
heated and simultaneously frothed up.
The frothed milk flows through the
milk discharge outlet into the waiting
cup.
Important: using the knob for regulat-
ing the froth (Figure 2/A) you can set
the amount of froth (more or less
added air) and the temperature of the
milk to your taste (Figure 12/A, B, C). To
do this turn the knob slowly to the
right or to the left until you achieve
the desired result.
Figure 12/A: maximum froth/
warm milk
Figure 12/B: no froth
Figure 12/C: less froth/

After making the frothed milk, return
the steam selector to the O position.

So long as there is water in the water
tank you can continue to make as
much frothed milk and as often as you
wish. If necessary, simply add some
more water,
Warning: when frothing milk, fill the
water tank only to the marking m ,as
otherwise the water will flow through
into the coffee brewing cycle.
Warning: if the appliance is used
without a container and the milk
heated directly in a cup, the suction
piece (Figure 2/B) must always be fitted
and the knob for regulating the froth
(Figure 2/A) must always be closed, i.e,
at right angles to the direction of flow
(Figure 13). Otherwise hot water could
spray out of the side of the connector
(Figure 2/D).
Try out for yourself which way you
prefer or which tastes better: coffee
first, then add the frothed milk, or first
froth the milk, then top up the cup
with coffee.
Preparing cocoa
You can prepare cocoa by putting some
cocoa powder in a container with the
milk and stirring gently. Then proceed
as you would to froth milk. The cocoa
\5 heated in the frothing nozzle by the
hot steam. The cocoa can also be
frothed up according to taste (see
section “Frothing Milk").
Heating water
Put water into a container.
Insert the hose into the container.
Then proceed as you would to froth
milk.
Switch the appliance off using the on/
off switch.
Descaling — to keep your coffee
machine in good condition for
longer
The service life of your coffee machine
can be lengthened with regular descal-
ing. As a precaution we recommend
descaling every three months.
Important: if you have a permanent
- filter remove it from the swivel filter
before descaling.
For descaling use a liquid, environmen-
tally-friendly descaling agent availa-
ble generally at retail outlets. Only use
it in accordance with the manufac-
turer's instructions. Do not use a for-
mic acid based descaler.
Descaling the coffee machine
Fill the water tank with water then add
the descaling agent - not the other
way round! Swing the swivel filter into
position in the appliance. Place the
thermos jug with lid on the plate
(Figure 1/E). (Please note that the lid
opens the anti-drip valve, and so
allows the liquid to flow through prop-
erly.) Leave the descaling solution for
about 15 minutes to take effect, then
switch the machine on and allow the
descaling solution to flow through. If
necessary, repeat the descaling proce-
dure.
Then repeat the procedure at least
twice using clear water. Rinse the ther-
mos jug, lid and swivel filter thor-
oughly under running water. Activate
the anti-drip valve several times as it is
rinsed.
Descaling the steam system
Remove the steam nozzle by turning
anticlockwise. Screw on the descaling
tube (Figure 2{F) and position a cup
beneath it. Switch on the steam selec-
tor for a minute several times. Switch
off the appliance. If necessary, repeat
the descaling procedure. Rinse out the
water tank with clear water to remove
any traces of the descaling solution.
Allow clear water to flow through and What do | do if …
clean the steam system again by
switching on the steam selector.
Remove the descaling tube and screw
on the steam nozzle.
Cleaning
Warning: clean all parts that have
come into contact with milk {frothing
nozzle, steam nozzle, flexible hose, drip
tray and drip grid), immediately after
use in ordinary washing-up water!
Then rinse them with clear water. Dry
all parts.
Check that you wash not only ali the
individual parts of the frothed milk
spout (Figure 14/B, C, D), but in
particular the knob for regulating
the froth (Figure 14/A) must be
thoroughly cleaned. During the froth-
ing procedure milk deposits can form
in the crevice of the knob (Figure 14/A
“arrow”). As these deposits can impair
the frothing result, we recommend
that the part indicated in the figure
with an “arrow” should be cleaned par-
ticularly thoroughly. Finally, rinse the
parts with clear water and dry them.
Do not wash these parts in a dish-
washer as the seals can be damaged.
The inner filter can be removed for
cleaning. To do this swing it out to the
left (Figure 5} as far as it will go. The
inner filter can then be removed (Fig-
ure 7). To remove coffee particles in
particular you should clean the anti-
drip valve thoroughly by activating it
several times as it is rinsed. Clean the
appliance with a damp cloth, but never
immerse it in water! Wash out the
thermos jug and lid with hot water
and, if necessary, a brush, then dry
with a cloth. Do not clean in a dish-
washer.
