MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

cleaned with a normal detergent. Any
burnt-on fat should be removed before
placing in the dishwasher.
The grill briquette box can also be
cleaned with a detergent, or in a
dishwasher.
The grill briquettes will absorb and burn
fat during grilling. If the briguettes
become very badly soiled, they may be
boiled in water with a little household
detergent. The pebbles may also be
replaced, and can be purchased from
your local Zanussi Service Centre.
Clean the heating elements with a
household cleaner.
The frying container can be cleaned
with warm water and detergent.

cleaned with a moist cloth.
TO CHANGE THE OIL
Closed
D
E E de CCR
DO IC
The oil is tapped through the bottom
lever underneath the frying container.
Before draining the oil, remove the
safety shield by pressing the sides and
pulling downwards. The drain cock can
now be turned to the vertical position for
draining the oil.
Important: Always replace the safety
shield after draining.
NB: The oil should only be emptied
when cold. Before emptying the
container, a suitable bowl should be
found which will hold all the oil. After
8
emptying the container, the lever should
be closed, and the handle removed for
safety reasons.
Always see to it that the fryer is
thoroughly cleaned after use as remains
of food may clog the tapping hole.
During cleaning
Close the lever and wash the container
in water. Place a bucket underneath the
lever and empty the container.
Dry thoroughly before refilling with
oil.

USING THE DEEP FAT FRYER
Frying
Make sure the heating elements is in
the bottom. Oil is poured into the frying
container.
The ”Min.” mark must be observed.
DO NOT OVERFILL.
This corresponds to an oil content of 1.5
litres. The Maximum amount of oil in the
container is 3.5 litres, which
corresponds to the step in the frying
container. The grill elements are turned
down and the fryer switched on to the
required temperature. For maximum
heat and most frying operations, turn up
to 190°C. Adjust to a lower temperature
as required, depending on the thickness
of the food.
Tips on frying
Set the required temperature and after a
while the correct temperature of the oil
is reached (the pilot lamp for the fryer
switches off).
Lower the frying basket containing the
food into the oil.
NB: Remember that moist foodstuff
should be dried before they are put
in (i.e. seafood, vegetables, fruit and
fish). Do not overfill the basket.
10
After frying, the basket should be lifted
out and shaken carefully to remove
excess oil (the basket may be hung on
the fixing bracket).
In the chart, the approximate times are
given for frying, which may serve as a
guide. The timing may depend on the
finished appearance and personal taste.
If you wish to fry large amounts of food
at the same time, it is best to remove
the basket only after 1-2 minutes so that
the oil may quickly reach the correct
temperature again.
The fried food will become more crispy
this way. If it is not crispy enough (even
if the temperature is correctly set), or if
the oil changes colour to light brown,
the oil should be changed
Frying
1. Preparing the food
Seal the food by coating with fluor, egg
and bread crumbs or batter. Do not use
a basket with batter coated foods as
they will stick.
2. Cooking the food
Lower the food gently into the oil. Do
not add too much food at once or the
temperature of the oil will be reduced
and may result in soggy, greasy food.
Turn the food if necessary; doughnuts
float to the surface so will not brown on
the upperside if not turned. Once
cooked, drain the food on absorbent
paper.
3. Double frying chips
Double frying will ensure good chips.
First fry the chips for a few minutes at
170°C/340°F to seal the outside.
Remove the chips from the oil. Increase
the temperature of the oil to
190°C/375°F to finish cooking and
brown the chips.
Chips may be kept for serveral hours
after the first frying before finishing off
with the second frying.
NB: Make sure that no naked flames
are near the fryer. The oil is hot and
ignites easily. Remember to set the
adjustment knob back to "0” once the
frying is finished.

Operation of the grill
To operate the grill, turn the grill control

The highest number represents the
hottest setting and the lowest, the
coolest setting.
When grilling, the grill grate must
always be in place.
Pre-heat the grill element for approx. 5
mins. on 12. This will result in the grill
briquettes becoming hot. Turn the
control knob to the required setting,
remember the food will obtain heat from
the briquettes.
Spices may be sprinkled directly onto
the meat while it is on the grill.
NOTE: Oil should be applied to food
before it is placed on the grill, to avoid
any unnecessary splashing of excess oil
onto the briquettes below.
Smoke will occur when fat drips onto
the briquettes.
WARNING
The grill briquette box should
always be placed in position and the
grill grate placed on top before the
grill unit is switched on.
