For optimum performance, follow these operating instructions carefully. rE PON AA VE TE shell E e он 3. elf the set is not used for a long period of time or is used only from an AC power source, remove all the batteries to prevent potential damage due to possible battery leakage. e Avoid using or placing this unit near sources of heat. Do not leave it in an automobile exposed to direct sunlight for a long time with the doors and windows closed as this may deform the cabinet. eAvoid cuts, scratches, or poor connections in the AC power cord, as they may result in possible fire or electric shock hazard. Also, excessive bending, pulling or splicing of the cord should be avoided. eDo not unplug the AC power cord by pulling on the cord. The FM Stereo Indica- tor will light during stereo broadcasts. elf FM stereo reception is poor (excessive noise, FM Stereo indicator flickers), set the Band Selector to “FM”. This will reduce the noise and provide clear reception; however, the broadcast will not be heard in stereo. B® Graphic Equalizer It allows you to tailor the frequency response of the unit to compensate for room acoustics and other factors which affect frequency response. The overall tone can be altered by adjusting the controls which control the following fre- quency bands: 100 Hz, 1 kHz, 10 kHz. Positioning the control to the "+" side of the detent will amplify the corresponding frequency band; the "—" side will attenuate №, Н the XBS Switch is set to "ON", functions as an XBS Level Control. the 100 Hz Control © Extra Bass System When the XBS Switch is set to "ON", the dynamic low frequency ranges are boosted. Adjust the level by using the XBS Level Control. It is amplified at low volume levels and attenuated at high volume levels. Using this system with Graphic Equalizer helps you to get more dynamic sounds. Notes: eThe Extra Bass System effect may be different according to the program content of the music tape. eWhen you playback the music tape which was recorded with a high level, the playback sound may be distorted. In this case, adjust with the XBS Level Control, . Adjust the Volume, Graphic Equalizer Controls and XBS B Antennas FM: Pull out the Telescopic Antenna and adjust its length and angie for optimum reception. AM: The sensitive ferrite core antenna inside the set will provide excellent AM reception in most areas. For optimum recep- tion, turn the set in the direction which gives the best results since the ferrite core antenna is directional. „= wr = a“ м À ar “e „” | This unit has a dual cassette system. A tape can be played back with Deck 1 and Deck 2. 2 Single Tape Playback . Open the Cassette Compartment cover by pressing the Stop/Eject Button. Insert the playback tape as shown in the figure, and then close the Cassette Compariment cover. 2. Set the Function Selector to “TAPE/OFF]". 3. Set the Deck 1 Reverse Mode Selector to the desired mode when playing back with Deck 1. æm 4): Two-side playback mode ACO: Repeat two-side playback mode 4. Press the Playback Button to begin tape playback. eWhen playing back with Deck 1, you can select the playback side by pressing the Direction Button. 5. M Automatic Playback Relay (Deck 1 to Deck 2) When Deck 1 playback has finished, Deck 2 playback starts automatically. | 1. Insert the playback tapes into Deck 1 and Deck 2. 2, Set the Deck 1 Reverse Mode Selector to " LD *", 3. Press the Deck 3 Playback Button. 4. Press the Deck 2 Pause Button, then press the Playback Button. E Fast Forward and Rewind (Deck 1) The tape will rapidly advance in the forward or reverse direction when one of the Fast Buttons is pressed. (Deck 2) The tape will move rapidly forward when the Fast Forward Button is pressed. The tape will rewind rapidly when the Rewind Button is pressed. Note: Do not press the Playback Button during fast forward or rewind, as this may jam the taps. Always press the Stop/Eject Button first, between functions. E Cue and Review (Only Deck 2) If the Cue Button (or Review Button) is partially pressed during piayback, the recorded sound on the tape can be monitored at a fast speed. When the button is released, playback will resume, E Auto-Stop During playback, when the tape reaches its end, the automatic stop system will release the Playback Button and automatically turn the unit off. During tape playback, if the Deck 1 Reverse Mode Selector is set to “ C* " position, the automatic stop system does not function. Note: eWhen the tape reaches the end by pressing the Fast Button, the automatic stop system does not function. The tape will stop, but as the motor continues to tum, do not leave the set in this condition. Be sure to press the Stop/Eject Button. Deck 1 is equipped with an auto reverse function that allows you to perform two-side playback or repeat two-side playback. olf the Direction Button is pressed during the tape playback, the reverse side of the cassette tape can be heard. Set the switch to whichever position best reduces these “beat” signals. M Recording through the Built-in Microphone The condenser microphone in this unit is omni-directional (all directions), so that recordings can be made from any direction. 1. Set the Function Selector to “TAPE/OFF]". 2. Set the Editing Mode Selector to “MIC”. 3. Follow the procedure described in steps (2)-(4) of “Recording Radio Broadcasts”. Note: Do not press the Deck 1 Playback Button during recording, otherwise the sound of Deck 1 is also recorded. Recording from External Equipment (Refer to page 10) 1. Connect the output of the external equipment to the CDiLine Input Jacks. 2. Set the Function Selector to “[CD]/LINE”. 3. Follow the procedure described in steps (2)-(5) of “Recording Radio Broadcasts”. TEA. BIN IEE E Pause Button The Pause Button can be used to temporarily stop the tape from moving during recording or playback. Before beginning a recording, first press and lock the Pause Button. Then press the Record Button. (The tape will not move.) When ready to record, press the Pause Button to release it. This will start tape movement for immediate recording. Note: Do not use the Pause Button to stop the tape for a long period of time. The unit is not turned off when the Pause Button is pressed. Always use the Stop/Eject Button to turn the unit off, E Monitoring The monitor system enables you to listen, through the Speakers or Headphones, to the sound as it is being recorded. If it is necessary to adjust the volume level of the sound being monitored, do so by using the Volume Control. oWhen recording from the Built-in Microphone, the sound being recorded cannot be monitored. Hl Erasure of Recording When recording, previously recorded signals on the tape will be erased automatically. To erase a tape without re-recording, use the following procedure. (Make no connections to the CD/Line Input Jacks.) 1. Set the Function Selector to “[CDJAINE". 2. Press the Record Buiton. pas When the Deck 2 Pause and Record Butions are pressed, tape editing starts by pressing the Deck 1 Playback Button. eDeck 1 has the Direction Memory Function. Betore editing, make sure the tape direction by pressing the Deck 1 Playback Button. Press the Direction Button to turn the tape direction of Deck 1. 1. insert the playback tape into Deck 1 and the editing tape into Deck 2, 2. Set the Function Selector to “TAPE/[OFF]". 3. Press the Deck 1 Playback Button. eEditing is started by means of the Synchro-Start function. 6. To stop editing, press the Stop/Eject Buttons (Deck 1 and Deck 2).
