Panasonic RQ-V161 is a portable stereo radio cassette player with a variety of features for enjoying music and radio on the go. It has a built-in FM/AM radio with a sensitive ferrite core antenna for excellent reception, and it can also play cassette tapes. The device features auto-reverse, fast forward and rewind functions for convenient tape playback, and it has bass and treble controls to customize the sound. It's powered by two UM-3 batteries or an optional AC adapter and comes with a pair of stereo earphones.

G GC GN ENGLISH POWER SOURCE (-={A]) einsert two UM-3 batteries (R6/LR6 or equivalent, not included) into the Battery Compartment, making sure of proper polarities. e When the batteries are weak, the tape speed will siow down, the sound will become distorted, and the volume will decrease. eFor AC power operation, connect only Panasonic AC adaptor (optional) to the DC IN jack. RADIO 1. Connect the included stereo earphones or head- phones tothe {) Jack. 2. Set the SELECTOR Switch to “RADIO”, 3. Set the BAND/FM MODE Selector to the desired radio band. efo receive FM stereo broadcast, set the BAND/FM MODE Selector to “FM ST”. 4, Tune in the desired station using the TUNING Control. The FM ST Indicator will light during FM stereo broadcast. 5. Adjust the volume using the VOLUME Control. 6. The radio can be turned off by setting the SELECTOR Switch to "TAPE [OFF]. Note: If FM stereo reception is poor (excessive noise, FM ST Indicator flickering), set the BAND/FM MODE Se- lector to “FM”. This will reduce the noise and provide more clear reception; however, the broadcast will not be heard in stereo. EN BASS/TREBLE Controls BASS: the dynamic low frequency range TREBLE: the dynamic high frequency range Positioning the control to the “+” side will amplify the corresponding range; the “—” side will attenuate it. E XBS LEVEL Control XBS boosts the low frequency range. You can enjoy the dynamic low sound. HB Antennas FM: The stereo earphones or headphones cord serves as the FM antenna, so be sure to use it ex- tended, not coiled. E Auto Reverse During playback, when the tape comes to the end of its travel, the tape direction changes automatically to start playing the opposite side of the tape. e Tape direction can be reversed manually using the DIR Selector. E Fast Forward and Rewind Press one of the FAST buttons (<< or >»). The tape will rapidly move in the direction of the arrow. Notes: * Do not open the cassette compartment cover during tape operation. elf the SELECTOR Switch is set to “RADIO” during tape operation, the motor will stop. it must be set to “TAPE [OFF]. eBetween functions (during play, fast forward or re- wind), always press STOP first to avoid jamming the tape. e When the tape reaches the end after fast forward or rewind, press STOP to release the FAST Button. MAINTENANCE (-=1[D]) Get into habit of cleaning the head assembly (after every 10 hours or so) with a cotton swab dampened with a little alcohol. NOTES oBatteries installed with incorrect polarities may leak and damage this unit. eDo not mix batteries (old and new) or types (carbon and alkaline). elf the set is not used for a long period of time, or is used only from an AC power source, remove all the batteries to prevent potential damage due to possi- ble battery leakage. e Avoid using or placing this unit near sources of heat. Do not leave it in an automobile exposed to direct sunlight for a long period of time with the doors and windows closed, as this may deform the cabinet. ®Avoid spray-type insecticides. Some insecticides contain chemicals that could cause cabinet de- formation. AM: The sensitive ferrite core antenna inside the set will provide excellent AM reception in most areas. The ferrite core antenna is directional. For optimum reception, turn the set in the direction which gives the best results.
