Frequently asked questions

What are the contraindications for external ventricular drainage?

External ventricular drainage is contraindicated in patients with a history of blood-clotting abnormalities, receiving anticoagulants or with scalp or skin infections.

How do I change the drainage pressure using the EDS?

To change the drainage pressure, reposition the cylinder to the new desired mm H2O height. Use the scale to measure from the zero point up to the arrow on the cylinder.

How do I protect the four-way stopcock from potential contamination?

To protect the four-way stopcock of the access port from potential contamination, you can either tighten the cap on the Luer-lock connector and observe aseptic precautions during sampling procedures or use the Integra Stopcock Protection Boxes. The boxes should be soaked with antiseptics and replaced every 72 hours.
