Basic Functions ◄/► Power on Press the joystick button once with your finger to turn on the monitor. Power off Press and hold the joystick button once with your finger to turn off the monitor. Volume Control You can control the volume by moving the joystick button left/right. NOTE y y The joystick button is located at the bottom of the monitor. 7 Input Connector ENG ENGLISH 8 Moving and Lifting the Monitor ENGLISH ENG When moving or lifting the monitor, follow these instructions to prevent the monitor from being scratched or damaged and to ensure safe transportation regardless of its shape or size. CAUTION As far as possible, avoid touching the monitor yy screen. This may result in damage to the screen or some of the pixels used to create images. It is advisable to place the monitor in the original yy box or packing material before attempting to move it. Before moving or lifting the monitor, disconnect yy the power cord and all cables. Hold the top and bottom of the monitor frame yy firmly. Do not hold the panel itself. If you use the monitor panel without the stand yy base, its joystick button may cause the monitor to become unstable and fall, resulting in damage to the monitor or human injury. In addition, this may cause the joystick button to malfunction. When holding the monitor, the screen should face yy away from you to prevent it being scratched. When moving the monitor, avoid any strong shock yy or vibrations to the product. When moving the monitor, keep it upright, never yy turn the monitor on its side or tilt it sideways. 9 Installing the Monitor 4 ENG ENGLISH Assembling the stand base 1 Stand Body CAUTION 5 Stand Body To protect the screen from scratches, cover the yy surface with a soft cloth. 2 Stand Base 3 or 10 CAUTION ENGLISH ENG Illustrations in this document represent typical yy procedures, so they may look different from the actual product. Do not carry the monitor upside down by just yy holding the stand base. This may cause the monitor to fall off the stand and could result in personal injury. When lifting or moving the monitor, do not yy touch the monitor screen. The force applied to the monitor screen may cause damage to it. Do not apply foreign substances (oils, lubricants, yy etc.) to the screw parts when assembling the product. (Doing so may damage the product.) Applying excessive force when tightening screws yy may cause damage to the monitor. Damage caused in this way will not be covered by the product warranty. NOTE You can disassemble the stand in the reverse order yy of the assembly. 11 Installing onto a table Arrange the cables using the cable holder as shown in the illustration. 1 Lift the monitor and place it on the table in an upright position. WARNING Do not put your fingers or hand yy between the screen and the base (chassis) when adjusting the screen's height. Be careful not to touch or press the screen area yy when adjusting the angle of the monitor. NOTE The left or right side of the monitor head can be yy slightly rotated up or down (up to 3°). Adjust the horizontal level of the monitor head. Monitor head 13 Pivot Feature 3 Rotate the monitor clockwise as shown in the figure. Head Stand 4 Complete the installation by rotating the monitor 90° as shown below. WARNING To avoid scratching the stand base, make sure yy that when rotating the monitor using the pivot feature, the stand does not make contact with the monitor. 1 Raise the monitor to the maximum height. NOTE 2 Adjust the angle of the monitor in the direction of the arrow as shown in the figure. y y Auto Pivot feature of the display is not supported. y y The screen can be rotated easily using the screen pivot shortcut key provided with your Windows operating system. Note that some Windows versions and some graphics card drivers may use different settings for the screen pivot key or may not support the pivot key at all. y y Supported Windows versions: Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 y y Windows screen pivot shortcut keys - - 0°: Ctrl + Alt + Up arrow key (↑) - - 90°: Ctrl + Alt + Left arrow key (←) - - 180°: Ctrl + Alt + Down arrow key (↓) - - 270°: Ctrl + Alt + Right arrow key (→) ENG ENGLISH The pivot feature allows the monitor to rotate 90° clockwise. 14 ENGLISH ENG Using the Kensington lock Installing the wall mount plate The Kensington security system connector is located at the back of the Monitor set. For more information on installation and usage, refer to the Kensington lock user manual or visit the website at http://www.kensington.com. This monitor supports the specification of the standard wall mount plate or compatible device. Connect the Kensington security system cable between the Monitor set and a table. 1 Place the screen face down. To protect the screen from scratches, cover the surface with a soft cloth. 2 Detaching the Stand Body. 3 Place the wall mount plate onto the monitor and align it with the screw holes. 4 Tighten the four screws to fix the plate to the monitor using a screwdriver. NOTE The wall mount plate is sold separately. yy For more information on installation, refer to the yy wall mount plate's installation guide. Be careful not to use excessive force when yy mounting the wall mount plate, as this can damage the monitor's screen. NOTE Use of the Kensington lock is optional. The accesyy sories can be purchased at your local electronics store. 15 Wall Mount (A x B) yy Installing to a wall A 100 mm (3.94 inches) 100 mm (3.94 inches) 100 mm (3.94 inches) 100 mm (3.94 inches) To install the monitor to a wall, attach a wall mounting bracket (optional) to the back of the monitor. Make sure that the wall mounting bracket is securely fixed to the monitor and to the wall. 1 If you use screw longer than standard, the monitor might be damaged internally. B B ENG ENGLISH Install the monitor at least 100 mm(3.94 inches) away from the wall and leave about 100 mm(3.94 inches) of space at each side of the monitor to ensure sufficient ventilation. Detailed installation instructions can be obtained from your local retail store. Please refer to the manual to install and set up a tilting wall mounting bracket. CAUTION Unplug the power cord before moving or yy installing the monitor to avoid electric shocks. Installing the monitor on the ceiling or on a yy slanted wall may result in the monitor falling off, which could lead to injury. Please use the genuine LG wall mounting bracket. For more information, contact your local retail store or a qualified installer. Applying excessive force when fastening screws yy may cause damage to the monitor. Damage caused in this way will not be covered by the product warranty. Use the wall mounting bracket and screws yy that conform to the VESA standard. Damage caused by the use or misuse of inappropriate components will not be covered by the product warranty. Screw length from outer surface of back cover yy should be under 8 mm(0.31 inches). For more information, please refer to the user yy manual for the wall mounting bracket. 16 USING THE MONITOR ENGLISH ENG Connecting to a PC This monitor supports the *Plug and Play feature. yy *Plug and Play: A feature that allows you to add a device to your computer without having to reconfigure anything or install any manual drivers. DisplayPort connection Transmits the digital video and audio signals from your PC to the monitor. Connect your PC to the monitor using the DisplayPort cable as illustrated below. Press the menu button and then select the input option from the input menu. HDMI connection Transmits the digital video and audio signals from your PC and A/V devices to the monitor. Connect your PC and AV device to the monitor with the HDMI cable as illustrated below. Press the menu button and then select the input option from the input menu. NOTE There may be no video or audio output depending yy on the DP version of the PC. y y If you use generic cables not certified by LG, the screen may not display or there may be image noises. NOTE If you use HDMI PC, it can cause compatibility yy problem. Use a certified cable with the HDMI logo attached. yy If you do not use a certified HDMI cable, the screen may not display or a connection error may occur. Recommended HDMI cable types yy - High-Speed HDMI®/TM Cable - High-Speed HDMI®/TM Cable with Ethernet 17 Connecting to AV Devices Transmits the digital video and audio signals from your PC and A/V devices to the monitor. Connect your PC and AV device to the monitor with the HDMI cable as illustrated below. Press the menu button and then select the input option from the input menu. Connecting Headphones Connect peripherals to the monitor via the headphones port. Connect as illustrated. (sold separately) NOTE NOTE If you use HDMI PC, it can cause compatibility yy problem. Use a certified cable with the HDMI logo attached. yy If you do not use a certified HDMI cable, the screen may not display or a connection error may occur. Recommended HDMI cable types yy - High-Speed HDMI®/TM Cable - High-Speed HDMI®/TM Cable with Ethernet y y Peripheral devices are sold separately. y y If you use angled earphones, it may cause a problem with connecting another external device to the monitor. Therefore, it is recommended to use straight earphones. Angled Straight y y Depending on the audio settings of the PC and external device, headphones and speaker functions may be limited. ENG ENGLISH HDMI connection Connecting to External Devices 18 USER SETTINGS ENGLISH ENG Activating the Main Menu 1 Press the joystick button on the bottom of the monitor. 2 Move the joystick up/down (▲/▼) and left/right(◄/►) to set the options. 3 Press the joystick button once more to exit the main menu. Game Sets the picture mode for gaming. Input Sets input mode. Power Off Turns off the monitor. Exit Exits the main menu. 19 User Settings 1 2 3 4 To view the OSD menu, press the joystick button at the bottom of the monitor and then enter the Menu. Configure the options by moving the joystick up/down/left/right. To return to the upper menu or set other menu items, move the joystick to◄ or pressing ( / Ok) it. If you want to exit the OSD menu, move the joystick to ◄ until you exit. y y When you enter the menu, instructions on how to use the button will appear in the bottom right corner of the screen. Quick Settings Input Picture General CAUTION y y Your monitor’s OSD (On Screen Display) may differ slightly from that shown in this manual. Each option is described below. Menu > Quick Settings Brightness Contrast Volume Description Adjusts the color contrast and brightness of the screen. Adjusts the volume level. NOTE y y You can adjust Mute / Unmute by moving the joystick button to▼in the Volume menu. Menu > Input Description Input List Selects the input mode. Aspect Ratio Adjusts the aspect ratio of the screen. Full Wide Displays the video in wide-screen, regardless of the video signal input. Original Displays video according to the aspect ratio of the video signal input. 1:1 The aspect ratio is not adjusted from the original. NOTE y y The display may look the same for Full Wide , Original, and 1:1 options at the recommended resolution (3840 x 2160). y y There is no 1:1 menu on FreeSync Mode. ( Go to Picture → Game Adjust → FreeSync, to set FreeSync On or Off) Menu > Picture Picture Mode Description Custom Allows the user to adjust each element. The color mode of the main menu can be adjusted. Reader Optimizes the screen for viewing documents. You can brighten the screen in the OSD menu. Photo Optimizes the screen for photos. Cinema Optimizes the screen for video. Dark Room 1 This mode adjusts the brightness to the optimal level for working in a dark environment. Dark Room 2 This mode sets the brightness to a lower level than Dark Room 1. Color Weakness This mode is for users who cannot distinguish between red and green. It enables users with color weakness to easily distinguish between the two colors. ENG ENGLISH Menu Settings 20 ENGLISH ENG FPS Game 1 This mode is optimized for FPS games. FPS Game 2 It has a higher Black Stabilizer value than FPS Game 1. It is suitable for very dark FPS games. RTS Game This mode is optimized for RTS Game. Custom (Game) In this mode, users can customize various elements including game-related options. NOTE y y If the picture mode is changed, the screen may flicker or the resolution of your PC screen may be affected. Picture Adjust Brightness Adjusts the brightness of the screen. Contrast Adjusts the contrast of the screen. Sharpness Adjusts the sharpness of the screen. SUPER RESOLUTION+ High Optimized picture quality is displayed when a user wants crystal clear images. It is effective for high quality video or game. Middle The optimized picture quality is displayed when a user wants images between low and high modes for comfortable viewing. It is effective for UCC or SD video. Low The optimized picture quality is displayed when a user wants smooth and natural images. It is effective for slow-moving pictures or still images. Off Select this option for everyday viewing. SUPER RESOLUTION+ is turned off in this mode. NOTE y y Because this is a function to increase the sharpness of low resolution pictures, it is not recommended to use the function for normal text or for desktop icons. Doing so may result in unnecessarily high sharpness. Black Level Sets the offset level (for HDMI only). y y Offset: as a reference for a video signal, this is the darkest color the monitor can display. High Keeps the current contrast ratio of the screen. Low Lowers the black levels and raises the white levels from the current contrast ratio of the screen. HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Provides sharper images when connected to a device supporting ULTRA HD Deep Color. Color 4K@60 Hz Support Format1) Resolution Color Depth / Chroma Sampling Frame rate (Hz) 8 bit 10 bit YCbCr 4:2:0 3840 x 2160 59.94 60.00 YCbCr 4:2:2 YCbCr 4:4:4 - RGB 4:4:4 - 1) Supported when HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color is set to On. NOTE y y If the connected device does not support ULTRA HD Deep Color, the feature may not work properly. y y If a problem occurs, set the HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color option to Off. DFC On Adjusts the brightness automatically according to the screen. Off Disables the DFC feature. 21 Game Adjust Response Time Fast Sets the response time to Fast. Normal Sets the response time to Normal. Slow Sets the response time to Slow. Off Does not use the response time improvement feature. Provides seamless and natural images by synchronizing the vertical frequency of the input signal with that of the output signal. CAUTION y y Supported Interface: DisplayPort, HDMI. y y Supported Graphic Card : A graphic card that supports AMD’s FreeSync is necessary. y y Supported Version : Make sure to update the graphic card to the latest driver. y y For more information and requirement, refer to AMD website at http://www. amd.com/FreeSync Color Adjust Extended Enable wider frequency range of FreeSync function than basic mode. The screen may flicker during the game play. Basic Enable basic frequency range of FreeSync function. Off FreeSync function off. Black Stabilizer You can control the black contrast to have better visibility in dark scenes. Increasing the Black Stabilizer value brightens the low gray level area on the screen. (You can easily distinguish objects on dark game screens.) Reducing the Black Stabilizer value darkens the low gray level area and increases the dynamic contrast on the screen. Gamma Mode 1, Mode 2, The higher the gamma value, the darker the image becomes. Mode 3, Likewise, the lower the gamma value, the lighter the image becomes. Color Temp Red Mode 4 If you do not need to adjust the gamma settings, select Mode 4. Custom The user can adjust it to red, green, or blue by customization. Warm Sets the screen color to a reddish tone. Medium Sets the screen color between a red and blue tone. Cool Sets the screen color to a bluish tone. You can customize the picture color using Red, Green, and Blue colors. Green Blue Six Color Picture Reset Meets the user requirements for colors by adjusting the hue and saturation of the six colors (Red, Blue, Green, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow) and then saving the settings. Hue Adjusts the tone of the screen colors. Saturation Adjusts the saturation of the screen colors. The lower the value, the less saturated and brighter the colors become. The higher the value, the more saturated and darker the colors become. Do you want to Picture reset your settings? No Cancel the selection. Yes Returns to the default settings. ENG ENGLISH FreeSync Sets a response time for displayed pictures based on the speed of the screen. For a normal environment, it is recommended that you use Normal. For a fastmoving picture, it is recommended that you use Fast. Setting to Fast may cause image sticking. 22 Menu > General Description ENGLISH ENG Language Sets the menu screen to the desired language. SMART ENERGY SAVING High Saves energy using the high-efficiency SMART ENERGY SAVING feature. Low Saves energy using the low-efficiency SMART ENERGY SAVING feature. Off Disables the SMART ENERGY SAVING feature. Power LED Turns the power LED on the front of the monitor on or off. On The power LED turns on automatically. Off The power LED turns off. Automatic Standby Feature that automatically turns off the monitor when there is no movement on the screen for a period of time. You can set a timer for the auto-off function. (Off, 4 H, 6 H, and 8 H) DisplayPort 1.2 Enables or disables DisplayPort 1.2. NOTE y y Be sure to configure this option according to the DisplayPort version supported by your graphics card. Set this option to Disable if your graphics card does not support DisplayPort 1.2. OSD Lock This feature disables the configuration and adjustment of menus. On Enables OSD Lock. Off Disables OSD Lock. NOTE y y All features are disabled except Brightness, Contrast, Volume, Input, OSD Lock in General, and the Exit button. OSD Size User can select OSD Size to Large or Small. Reset Do you want to reset your settings? No Cancel the selection. Yes Returns to the default settings. NOTE y y Saving Data depends on the Panel. So, these values may be different from each panel and/or panel vendor. If the SMART ENERGY SAVING option is High or Low, monitor luminance become higher or lower depending on the source. 23 TROUBLESHOOTING Is the monitor's power cord plugged y y Check if the power cord is correctly plugged into the power outlet. in? Is the power LED on? Is the power on and the power LED displaying white? Check the power cable connection and press the power button. yy Check that the connected input is enabled (Menu > Input > Input list). yy Is the OUT OF RANGE message being displayed? This occurs when signals transferred from the PC (graphics card) are out yy of the horizontal or vertical frequency range of the monitor. Please see the Product Specification section of this manual to set the appropriate frequency. Is the No Signal message being displayed? This is displayed when the signal cable between the PC and the monitor is yy missing or disconnected. Check the cable and reconnect it. The OSD lock message is being displayed. Are some functions not available when you press the Menu button? The OSD is locked. Go to Menu > General and set OSD Lock to Off. yy The screen retains an image. Does image sticking occur even when the monitor is turned off? Displaying a still image for a prolonged time may cause damage to the yy screen, resulting in the retention of the image. To extend the lifetime of the monitor, use a screensaver. yy Screen display is unstable and shaky / Images displayed on the monitor leave shadow trails. Did you select the appropriate resolution? If the selected resolution is HDMI 1080i 60/50 Hz (interlaced), the screen yy may be flickering. Change the resolution to 1080P or the recommended resolution. NOTE y y Vertical frequency In order to display an image, the screen must be refreshed dozens of times per second, like a fluorescent lamp. The number of times the screen is refreshed per second is called vertical frequency, or refresh rate, and is represented by Hz. y y Horizontal frequency The time it takes to display one horizontal line is called the horizontal cycle. If 1 is divided by the horizontal interval, the result is the number of horizontal lines displayed per second. This is called horizontal frequency and is represented by kHz. ENG ENGLISH Nothing is displayed on the screen. 24 NOTE ENGLISH ENG Check if the graphics card's resolution or frequency is within the range allowed by the monitor and set it to the yy recommended (optimal) resolution in Control Panel > Display > settings. Not setting the graphics card to the recommended (optimal) resolution may result in blurred text, a dimmed yy screen, a truncated display area, or misalignment of the display. The setting methods may be different depending on the computer or operating system, and some resolutions yy may not be available depending on the performance of the graphics card. If this is the case, contact the manufacturer of the computer or graphics card for assistance. Some graphics cards may not support 3840 x 2160 resolution. If the resolution cannot be displayed, contact the yy manufacturer of your graphics card. The display color is abnormal. Does the display appear discolored (16 colors)? Set the color to 24 bit (true color) or higher. In Windows, go to control yy Panel > Display > Settings > Color Quality. Does the display color appear unstable or monochrome? Check if the signal cable is connected properly. Reconnect the cable or yy reinsert the PC's graphics card. Are there spots on the screen? When using the monitor, pixilated spots (red, green, blue, white, or black) yy may appear on the screen. This is normal for an LCD screen.
