instructions
Read the instructions before use and keep them safe. If you pass the boiling ring on,
pass on the instructions too.
Remove all packaging, but keep it till you’re satisfied the boiling ring is working.
important safeguards
Follow basic safety precautions, including:
1 This appliance must only be used by or under the direct supervision of a responsible
adult.
2 Don’t put the cable, plug, or boiling ring in water or any other liquid. Don’t
use it in a bathroom, or near any source of water, and don’t use it outdoors.
3 Put the boiling ring on a stable, level, heat resistant work surface.
4 The work surface must be at least 75cm (30 inches) above floor level.
5 Leave a space of at least 5cm (2 inches) all round the boiling ring.
6 This appliance must not be operated by an external timer or remote control system.
7 Don’t use the boiling ring near or under cupboards, curtains or combustible
materials.
8 Keep it away from the edge of the work surface.
9 Route the cable so it doesn’t overhang, and can’t be tripped over or caught
accidentally.
10 Don’t leave the boiling ring unattended while it’s plugged in.
11 Take care when cooking with oil or fat to guard against overheating.
12 The boiling ring will be very hot when in use. Don’t touch any part of it.
13 Don’t try to move the boiling ring till it’s cold, and don’t try to move it while there’s
anything on it.
14 Position pan handles so they can’t be knocked or caught.
15 Choose pans with bases the same size as the hotplate on which they are to be used,
otherwise overheating may occur.
16 Don’t use oversized pans (e.g. catering pans) or any pan which covers both
hotplates, as this will cause overheating and damage to the boiling ring.
17 After use switch the hotplates off and unplug the boiling ring. Let it cool down fully
before cleaning or storing away.
18 Don’t wrap the cable around the boiling ring.
19 Keep the cable away from hot surfaces.
20 Don’t use the boiling ring if it’s damaged or malfunctions. If the cable or plug is
damaged, the boiling ring must be returned to avoid hazard.

The hotplates must be cured, and their protective coatings burned off.
Ensure the room is well ventilated, as it can get a bit smelly.
Plug the boiling ring into the wall socket (switch the socket on if it’s switchable).
Turn both knobs to 6 and leave them on for 5 minutes.
Turn both knobs to 0 (off), unplug, and leave the boiling ring till both hotplates are
cold.
6 Wipe any residues off the surfaces of the boiling ring and hotplates (see “care and
maintenance”). The boiling ring is now ready for use.
positioning
7 Put the boiling ring on a stable, level, heat resistant work surface, at least 75cm
(30in) above floor level, and leave a space of at least 5cm (2in) all round.
8 Don’t use the boiling ring near or under cupboards, curtains or combustible
materials.
9 Keep it away from the edge of the work surface, and route the cable so it doesn’t
overhang and can’t be tripped over or caught accidentally.
operation
10 Each hotplate is controlled by a knob and indicator light. The knobs are marked 0
(off) to 6 (maximum).
11 To switch a hotplate on, turn its knob clockwise from 0.
12 To switch a hotplate off, turn its knob anti-clockwise to 0.
lights
13 The lights are thermostatically controlled. Each light comes on when power is
applied to the associated hotplate, goes off when the set temperature is reached,
then cycles on and off as the thermostat operates to maintain the temperature.

Use heavy-based, flat-bottomed pans, for good contact with the hotplates.
Sit the pans centrally on the hotplates.
Position the handles safely out of the way, where they can’t be knocked.
Use pans with bases the same size as the hotplates, to avoid overheating.
Don’t use oversized pans (e.g. catering pans) or pans which cover both hotplates,
you’ll overheat the boiling ring, and reduce its working life.
in use
19 Check that both controls are at 0.
20 Plug the boiling ring into the wall socket (switch the socket on, if appropriate).
21 Turn the knob(s) to the required setting(s).

to keep food warm, or to dry off potatoes or rice.
24 Switch the hotplate(s) off (0) and wait till they’re cold before cleaning.
