IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be
followed including the following:
1. Read all instructions.
2. DO NOT touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
3. To protect against electrical hazards, do not immerse cord, plugs, or the
appliance in water or other liquid.
4. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near
children. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play
with the appliance.
5. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with
reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and
knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction
concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
6. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool
before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
7. DO NOT operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the
appliance malfunctions, or is dropped or damaged in any manner. Return
appliance to the manufacturer for examination, repair or electrical or
mechanical adjustment. All servicing, other than cleaning, should be
performed by an authorized service representative. See Warranty section.
8. The use of accessories or attachments not recommended by Salton may
result in fire, electric shock or personal injury.
9. DO NOT use outdoors.
10. IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT USE THE KETTLE WITHOUT THE FILTER IN
POSITION –
- this may allow water to spit out of the spout when boiling
- allow the kettle to remain in the boil cycle too long once the water has
boiled
- the kettle may not shut off
11. DO NOT let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
12. DO NOT place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
2
13. Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall outlet.
To disconnect, turn any control to ‘OFF’, then remove plug from wall
outlet.
14. DO NOT use appliance for other than intended use.
15. DO NOT leave unit unattended while in use.
16. Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing
hot liquids.
17. DO NOT use Kettle without Lid in place.
18. Scalding may occur if Lid is opened while the Kettle is hot.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY
GROUNDED PLUG
To reduce the risk of electric shock this appliance has a grounded plug
(2 blades and 1 pin). If the plug does not fit fully into the electrical outlet
contact a qualified electrician. Do not modify the plug in any way or use an
adaptor.
BEFORE FIRST USE
1. Read all instructions carefully and keep them for future reference.
2. Remove all packaging.
3. The Aquascreen® Filter has been installed in the spout of the Kettle
during production. If it has been dislodged during shipping, check inside
the Kettle or in the box for the Filter. Install before using the Kettle.
(See Care and Cleaning section)
IMPORTANT NOTES:
DO NOT REMOVE OR INSTALL THE FILTER WHEN THE KETTLE IS HOT.
DO NOT USE THE KETTLE WITHOUT THE FILTER IN POSITION –
- this may allow water to spit out of the spout when boiling
- allow the kettle to remain in the boil cycle too long once the water has
boiled
- the kettle may not shut off
4. Water boiled for the first time should be discarded.
3
HOW TO USE
1. Open the Lid by holding the kettle handle with one hand and lifting up
the Lid with the other. Fill the kettle through the lid opening with a
minimum of 0.5 litres (2 cups) of water.
2. DO NOT attempt to fill the Kettle while it is plugged into the wall outlet.
DO NOT use for other than boiling water. Other liquids will contaminate
the interior of the kettle.
DO NOT fill past the MAX level indicated in the water level window.
Overfilling may cause water to spit out when boiling.
3. Close the Lid.
4. Place Kettle on a level, dry, heat resistant surface.
5. Plug into a 120V AC wall outlet.
NOTE:
- Never plug kettle into an electrical outlet when the kettle is empty.
- Direct kettle spout away from cabinets, walls, etc. to prevent possible
steam damage.
6. Depress the On/Off Switch (‘I’/’O’) and the red indicator light will light up
to indicate that the Kettle is in the boil cycle. Once the water has boiled,
the On/Off Switch will move to the 'Off' (‘O’) position and the light will
go out. IMPORTANT: The kettle shuts off automatically only after
the boiling cycle is complet. If the kettle is unplugged before the
boiling cycle is complete then it will begin to heat as soon as it is
plugged in again. To shut the kettle off before the boiling cycle is
complete, lift the On/Off Switch to the ‘Off’ (‘O’) position.
7. The Lid should not be opened when the Kettle is hot.
8. If you want to use the Kettle again, allow the thermal safety switch to
cool down for 15 to 20 seconds then depress the On/Off Switch to the
On (‘I’) position. If the On/Off Switch does not remain in the On
position, the water is hot enough to use without reheating.
9. Only grip the Kettle by the Handle as all other surfaces will be hot
10. Unplug cord from wall outlet before pouring water from the Kettle.
11. Return the Kettle to a heat resistant surface after use.
12. IMPORTANT: If the Kettle is accidently switched on when empty, the
thermostat will automatically cycle on and off to prevent the Kettle from
overheating. If this situation occurs, press the ‘O’ side of the On/Off
switch and unplug the Kettle immediately. Let the Kettle cool before
refilling.
13. DISCONNECT the Power Cord from the wall outlet when not in use.
4
CARE AND CLEANING
All servicing, other than cleaning, should be performed by an authorized
service representative. See Warranty section.
1. Exterior
- Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the exterior.
- DO NOT use abrasive cleaners. Dry exterior thoroughly before use.
- DO NOT immerse kettle or power base in water or other liquid
2. Installing the Filter
The filter must be inserted so that the smallest part of the filter is facing
down. Fit the notch in the filter onto the plastic support that runs
vertically below the spout. Gently push on the left side of the filter so
that it snaps into the horizontal slots on the left side of the spout.
Repeat on the right hand side.
NOTE: NEVER REMOVE OR INSTALL THE FILTER WHEN THE KETTLE
IS HOT.
3. Removing the Filter
To remove the Filter, gently pull one side out of the horizontal slots on
either side of the spout, then pull out the other side. Lift the filter out of
the kettle.
4. Descaling
Under normal use, a deposit of scale may form on the inside of the Kettle.
This scale build-up can be delayed by pouring out old water and refilling
before each use.
If descalling is required, follow the directions below:
- Unplug Power Cord from wall outlet and allow Kettle to cool completely.
- Open the Lid and remove the Filter as described above. Wash the Filter
under running water.
- Scale which has accumulated inside the Kettle can be removed by
boiling equal parts of white vinegar and water (2 cups of each is
recommended). Once the water has boiled, allow the mixture to stand
overnight. Empty out the mixture and fill the Kettle to the MAX level
with fresh water. Bring water to a boil and discard. For heavy scale
build-up, repeat this process.
5
A short supply cord is provided to reduce the hazards of becoming
entangled in or tripping over a long cord. Extension cords may be used
if care is exercised in their use. If an extension cord is used, the marked
electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord
should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. If
the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be a
grounded 3-wire cord. The extension cord should be arranged so that
it will not drape over the counter top or table top, where it can be pulled
on by children or tripped over.
