SECTION H OPERATION ÇOFIOIPAIGPGES fcauTiont PPP BOISE PEP The heater must be used in a well-ventilated area only, and must be at least four (4) feet from any combustible materials. A partly opened door or window near the heater level will provide enough ventilation. GROUNDING OF HEATER The heater is equipped with an extension cord with a three-prong plug. Anadapter mustbe used when only two-prong receptacles are available. In most instances the receptacle box is grounded, as electrical codes require, and can be used for ground- ing the adapter. Loosen one of the metal screws that hold the receptacle inthe box, and insert the green lead of the adapter between the box and metal arm of the receptacle. Retighten the screw. This procedure grounds the frame of the heater. Anan Nn STARTING To start the portable heater, fill the fuel tank; then, ground the green lead onthe adapter and plug into an electrical outlet which has the same voltage and cycle characteristics as those shown on the heater name plate. The heater will ignite immediately and provide instant heat. QOPI OPI IIIS CAUTIONÍ PPP PLP PPPS If plugged into current other than that specified onthe heater instruction plate, the transformer will burn up. En STOPPING To stop the portable heater, unplug the electrical cord from the power supply. The heater will stop im- mediately, and with no harmful effects. Filters Clean the air and fuel filters twice a season, or as needed (every 500 hours of operation). a. Remove the four screws (2), fig. 6, lockwashers (3), and cover (1). Take out the output filter (5), intake filter (4), and the lint filter (6). Wash filters with a mild detergent. Dry thoroughly and replace filters, cover and screws, b. Loosenthe 4 screws at the sides and lift off upper shell (1, fig. 4). Disconnect the fuel filter assembly (9) from the burner assembly (8) and withdraw filter assembly. Immerse in clean fuel and rinse several times. Blow out through fitting end. Replace securely in tank and connect to burner, ran Fan blades mustbe cleaned twice a season or as needed (every 500 hours of operation). Accumulation of dust and dirt will reduce air supply. Remove upper shell (1), and wipe blades with clean cloth. Ifdeposits will not come off readily, use kerosene or solvent on tip of cloth. Dry blades thor- oughly. Replace upper shell. Burner To remove burner assembly (8) for cleaning, remove upper shell. Disconnect fuel filter (9), air line (10) at both ends, and the two electrode leads (44) attheback of burner. Loosen screw (84) (do not re- move); then, twist burner clockwise, to release it from grooves in fins, and draw it straight back toward fan. Lift out burner. Soak complete burner head in non-flammable liquid cleaning agent (do not use kerosene or fuel oil) —| La— 1/8 INCH BETWEEN ELECTRODE 1/4 INCH (TYPICAL) Figure 1. Electrode Settings for one hour and blow out through both fittings in rear ofhead. Donotattempt to remove nozzle or open pas- sage withadrill, as you will damage it beyond repair. Reassemble burner in heater, after checking electrode settings according to manual instructions, Figure 1, making sure burner is snug against com- bustion chamber backplate. Turn counterclockwise as far as possible and tighten screw (8A, figure 4). Tighten connections on air line and fuel filter securely and push electrode leads into burner head electrodes, until they snap into place. Replace upper shell. SPECIAL TOOLS The following special tools are required for serv- icing and maintaining the heaters: Air Gage (Part No. M9148), 15 pound minimum pressure range, 1/4-pound divisions (must be able to read 4-pounds accurately). TROUBLE-SHOOTING GUIDE 1. Heater will not start: a. Check outlet for power. Supply must be sameas specified on instruction plate. WARNING Motor has automatic thermal overload protector. It may stop due to low voltage or motor over-load. BE SURE to disconnect heater before inspecting. To reset, push red button on protector. The only parts that are recommended for replacement by the heater's owner or user are indicated by the symbol (*). Parts indicated by the sym- bol (**) are standard hardware items, and may be obtained locally. Major parts of the heaters are indexed on the exploded views. Usually parts (such as screws and nuts) that attach these major parts are shown on the illustration, but have no indexnumbers. In this case, the attaching parts are listed immediately following the parts they attach. Most parts of the heaters are identical for each Spec- ification Number. Wherever there is a difference, the usage is coded by means of a note. The code is as follows: A - Used on Spec. Nos. 2826Gl and 28262 B - Used on Spec. Nos. 2826G1-1 and 2826G2-l С - Used on Spec. Nos. 2826G1-2 and 2826G2-2 To order parts, first check the nameplate decal for the correct model number and Spec. No. of theheater. INCLUDE THE MODEL AND SPEC. NUMBER WHEN ORDERING PARTS. Order parts by part name and part number only. Do not use the index numbers from the illustration when or- dering parts.
