ESAB Software Administration Tool
1 Introduction
1.1 This document
The software update is made from a PC-computer. It has to be managed by a trained
service man. For this a computer program called ESAT, “ESAB Software
Administration Tool”, is needed. The PC is connected to the welding equipment by a
cable connector and a CAN adapter. From the ESAT it is possible to update the
software in power source, wire feeder and control panel. ESAT contains also service
functions by which it is possible to control, change or read the different functions in
the equipment.
This document describes what the various displays in the ESAT installation program
mean, and what the various selection options do.
For the installation and use of ESAT program the following parts are recommended
Computer
-
Operating system: Windows 9x, NT4, Windows 2000 or Windows XP
-
One printer port (LPT) to connect the CAN adapter.
The Service Kit include:
- CAN adapter MECEL PPCAN
- Connection Cable between CAN adapter and power source
- CAN adapter software
- ESAT software
To make an update of the Aristo system, you will also need an application program
upgrade. This program will be sent to registered ESAT users by e-mail or be
downloaded from ESAB web site.

3.6.1 Weld data unit search
Before any action can be taken in, synergic upload or download a search for welding
data units has to be made. However, it is possible to open several synergic packages
and to combine those and save in a new file before any search for units has been
done.
3.6.2 Upload
To upload data from the welding device click the upload button.
If an error occurred during upload for example if the unit did not have any upload able
data, the error would be displayed to the user in form of a message box indicating
what went wrong.
If the upload list is populated it is now possible to save the uploaded synergic data to
file. To save the data to file click the save button. Choose a destination and click ok.
If another upload is made the previously uploaded data will be lost if it has not been
saved to disc.
17
User manual
3.6.3 Open file
To open an existing file (*.syd), click the open file button. Chose the file to open and
click ok. If the file is in correct file format and a synergic package file, the open file list
will be populated.
The little yellow book represents the synergic package (the open file) wile the litre
grey and yellow symbols and their lines represent synergic lines. If the package
column is dragged to the right the file name will be visible in the first package line.
3.6.4 Download and combine
If either of the upload list or the open file list are populated it is possible to move
synergic lines to the “combine ” list. Right next to the open file list and the upload list
an arrow button is visible. These buttons is out greyed if its corresponding list is not
populated. To move a synergic line or a synergic package select the line and click the
corresponding arrow button. Multiple lines can be selected. To select multiple lines
hold down the control button on the keyboard (Ctrl) and click the lines. In the open
file list whole packages can be moved. Note that the lines that you move are
essentially copied since no lines are removed wile clicking the arrow button.
To save a combined packet click the save button and select the destination to save.
If the combine list is populated it is possible to download the combined list to the
welding data unit.
To start a download click the download button. If the download fails, an error
message box will be displayed.
Download is finished when the progress bar reaches hundred percent. After
download, a message box indicates to restart the unit.
Remark: If the download lists contain one or more lines that have incomplete choices
it cannot be downloaded to the welding data unit. Incomplete in this sense means
that the synergic line does not have a choice for method, material, gas or dimension.
Alternatively, the corresponding choice has no text that can be displayed.
18
ESAB Software Administration Tool
3.6.5 Notes
It is possible to add a note to the synergic packages. This note will be saved in the
file with the synergic data. The list displays the file version, global list version and the
machine identity. In the editable section, write your note. To save the note, click the
“Add note” button. To close the note hit the close button.
Note that no note information will be saved to the welding device.
