ASK FOR YOUR EMPLOYER’S SAFETY PRACTICES WHICH SHOULD BE BASED ON MANU- FACTURER'S HAZARD DATA. ELECTRIC SHOCK - Can kill * Install and earth the welding unit in accordance with applicable standards. * Do not touch live electrical parts or electrodes with bare skin, wet gloves or wet clothing. [Insulate yourself from earth and the workpiece. Ensure your working stance is safe. FUMES AND GASES - Can be dangerous to health * Keep your head out of the fumes. * Use ventilation, extraction at the arc, or both, to keep fumes and gases from your breathing zone and the general area. ARC RAYS - Can injure eyes and burn skin Protect your eyes and body. Use the correct welding screen and filter lens and wear protective clothing. + Protect bystanders with suitable screens or curtains. FIRE HAZARD о Sparks (spatter) can cause fire. Make sure therefore that there are no inflammable materials nearby. MALFUNCTION о (Call for expert assistance in the event of malfunction. PROTECT YOURSELF AND OTHERS! mmvarnea = 28 T SAFETY SAFETY Users of ESAB automatic welding machines have ultimate responsibility for ensuring that anyone who works on or near the equipment observes all the relevant safety precautions. Safety precautions must meet the requirements that apply to this type of automatic welding machine. The following recommendations should be observed in addition to the standard re- gulations that apply to the work place. All work must be carried out by trained personnel who are familiar with the operation of the welding machine. Incorrect operation of the equipment may lead to a hazardous situation which can result in injury to the operator and damage to the equipment. 1. Anyone who uses the automatic welding machine must be familiar with: e its operation * the location of emergency stops e its function * relevant safety precautions welding To make this easier each switch, pushbutton or potentiometer is marked with a symbol or text that indicates its function when activated. 2. The operator must ensure that: * no unauthorized person is stationed within the working area of the machine when it is started up. that no-one is unprotected when the arc is struck 3. The work place must: be suitable for the purpose be free from draughts 4. Personal safety equipment * Always wear recommended personal safety equipment, such as safety glasses, flame-proof clothing, safety gloves. Do not wear loose-fitting items, such as scarves, bracelets, rings, etc., which could become trapped or cause burns. 5. General precautions Make sure the return cable is connected securely. Work on high voltage equipment may only be carried out by a qualified electrician. « Appropriate fire extinquishing equipment must be clearly marked and close at hand. ~» Lubrication and maintenance must not be carried out on the equipment dur- ing its operation. dfoof2ea - 29 —- TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION The A21 PRD pipe welding tool is designed for TIG welding of pipes in combination with the PROTIG 315 welding power source. During pipe welding the tool runs along a toothed track, which is held in place by spring-loaded studs. There is a separate toothed track for each size of pipe. For flat work pieces there is a toothed track which is held in place by suction cups. The A21 PRD is attached to the track by a quick locking system which, when locked in place, grips the tool against the track to ensure that it is free from play and to pre- vent the tool from being dislodged accidentally. Connect the A21 PRD to the PROTIG 315. See the connection instructions and operator's manual for the PROTIG 315 (443 419). Attach the A21 PRD to the track using the locking mechanism. Adjust the angle between the two halves of the A21 PRD by means of screw (1), so that one support wheel can be raised 1-2 mm above the track. / — / VIALES at ' / HL dic FEIT . = | A e | | | © | , / LR — TJ dsa1i001 4. Clamp the A21 PRD to the track by setting all locking screws to the “closed” position. Narrow gap welding Before narrow gap T1G welding with the PRD tool the electrode holder must be re- placed and a wire straightener must be fitted to the wire feed unit, since the wire must be straight to ensure a stable stickout. 1. Screw the wire straightener 441 355 directly onto the wire feed unit. There are three versions of wire straightener: Wire straightener 441 355-880 for 1,2 mm Wire straightener 441 355-881 for 1,0 mm Wire straightener 441 355-882 for 0,8 mm Adjusting the wire straightener. * Turn the wire straightener in the desired direction on its threaded mount. Use 3.2 mm tungsten electrode for narrow gap welding. dsafitea - 31 - INSTALLATION 4. Replace electrode holder 333 442-881 with: Electrode holder for narrow gap welding, order no. 441 623-880 for plate thicknesses up to 50 mm. Electrode holder for narrow gap welding, order no. 441 623-881 for plate thicknesses up to 80 mm. When welding plate thicker than 50 mm: a. Fit the gas shroud for 80 mm and weld until about 40 mm remains. b. Fit the accompanying gas shroud for 50 mm and complete the weld. WARNING! Rotating parts can cause injury so take great care. dsatiltea _ 32 — OPERATION OPERATION 1. Set the A21 PRD to the starting position using the programming unit on the weld- ing power source. For more information see the programming manual PROTIG 315, order no. 443 425 dsalolea - 33 - MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE Once a day 1. Check all cables and hoses for damage. 2. Clean the pipe welding tool. 3. Place a drop of ail in lubrication hole (2) on the wire feed unit.
