Short description The Anemometer ML90s is a device for measuring wind speed between 0.4 and 35 m/s. The sensor is a propeller-­‐type anemometer with the axis of rotation parallel to the direction of the wind. The number of revolutions is counted via a magnet and reed sensor and is converted to wind velocity. The Anemometer is an I2C digital sensor, which gives calibrated values of the measured quantity. This sensor can only be connected to special interfaces that support I2C digital sensor like the CMA MoLab interface. Sensor specifications The Anemometer ML90s is a digital sensor, which generates a pulse every 0.1 m/sec wind. The resolution of the sensor is 0.1 m/s. Collecting data This Anemometer works only with specific interfaces. The sensor will be automatically detected when connected to such an interface. For detailed information about measurements with sensors consult the User Manuals of the interface and the Coach 6 software. Calibration The Anemometer is supplied with a factory calibration and gives values in m/s. Suggested experiments • Measure the wind speed of air generated by a variable speed fan. • Investigate why wind speed is slower over land than it is over the ocean. • Use an Anemometer and a compass to determine wind direction. Using the Anemometer To use the Anemometer, hold it vertically so that the wind blows straight into the propeller. This will cause the propeller to spin.
