The adjustable stop bracket kit prevents the transmission from tipping to the point where the transmission belt comes off.

Install the adjustable stop bracket.
5. Tip the machine onto its side, with the air filter facing
upward, until the upper handle rests on the ground.

DANGER
Removing the Existing Stop
Bracket
Tipping the machine may cause the fuel to
leak. Fuel is flammable and explosive, and
can cause personal injury.
Run the engine dry to remove the fuel with a
hand pump; never siphon the fuel.
No Parts Required
Procedure
1. Move the machine to a level surface.
2. Release the blade-brake bail.
3. Disconnect the spark-plug wire from the spark plug.
4. Use the front and rear cutting-height levers to adjust
the machine to the lowest height-of-cut.
Note: Adjusting the machine to the lowest
height-of-cut allows access to the stop bracket
mounting bolt.

Procedure
1. Attach the bumper to the adjustable stop bracket
(Figure 3).

7. Remove the existing stop bracket from the machine by
removing the bolt and the nut that secures the bracket
to the machine (Figure 2).

2. Use the hex-head bolt and the flange nut to install the
bracket onto the machine (Figure 4).

3. Adjust the bracket so that the bumper contacts, but
does not press on, the transmission (Figure 5).

4. Torque the bolt to 16 to 20 N∙m (145 to 175 in-lb).
5. Torque the nut to 17 to 19 N∙m (150 to 170 in-lb).
6. Remove the block of wood from the blades, connect
the spark-plug wire to the spark plug, and add fuel to
the fuel tank.
