FRAME KIT

1, If a grass collection system is installed on unit,
remove bagger assembly and all mounting hardware
secured to traction unit frame.
2. Drain fuel from fuel tank, fuel lines, pump, filter,
and separator.
3. Disconnect and remove battery from battery
compartment.
4. Disconnect air cleaner hose and remove com-
plete air cleaner assembly, shield, and mounting
bands from frame.
5. Remove fasteners securing hood to frame and
remove hood.
6. Remove fuel tank from chassis and all fuel lines.
7. Drain coolant from radiator and hoses. Discon-
nect and remove radiator and shroud assembly.
8. Position a reinforcement plate, (included in kit)
in each inside rear corner of frame as shown in
fig.1. Make sure paint is removed from all surfaces
to be welded.
9. Weld plates to frame members as shown in
fig.2, using the following welding rods:
a. 5/32” E6010 (130 AMP DC) or
b. 5/32” E7018 (170 AMP DC)
IMPORTANT: DO NOT ALLOW EITHER LEAD OF THE
WELDER TO MAKE CONTACT WITH THE ENGINE
WHILE WELDING, AS SEVERE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
AND/OR ENGINE DAMAGE MAY OCCUR.
10. Position each side plate against appropriate side
frame as shown in fig.1, aligning existing holes in
each.
11. Using each side plate as a template, locate,
mark, and drill (3) .344” dia. holes in bottom lip of
frame and (4) .312 dia. holes in side of frame.
NOTE: When drilling through side frame, do not
penetrate inner channel, drill only through frame and
engine strap.
12. Tap (4) holes in each side of frame using a
3/8-16 UNC drill tap.

13. Using tapped holes, secure each side plate to
frame with (4) 3/8-16x3/4” Ig. capscrews and lock-
washers.
14. Secure bottom of each side plate to lip of frame
with (3) 5/16-18x7/8” Ig. capscrews and locknuts.
15. Weld top, rear and bottom rear edges of each
side plate to frame as shown in fig.3.
16. Grind weld spatter smooth. Clean and paint side
frames, rear of frame and other areas affected by
painting.
17. Apply new decal to rear of machine.
18. Reinstall all components previously removed.
NOTE: When reinstalling components, make sure
engine fan and shroud are aligned and spaced prop-
erly.
