BRASS FACTS AND CARE Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Brass sinks offer durability and enduring beauty if cared for properly. Brass is a soft metal that will scratch and dent fairly easily so extra care must be taken to prevent unnecessary damage, but the original luster can be restored with the proper tools and a little elbow grease. Care and Maintenance • For ordinary cleaning use a mild dish detergent and a soft cloth. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean, soft cloth. • Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals such as bleach, ammonia, acid, etc. • Use a good quality brass cleaner to remove stains or tarnish. Rub lightly to remove discoloring and allow to dry. Polish with a clean, soft cloth. • Remove minor scuffs or scratches with a fine automotive rubbing compound. Finish with a brass polish. • Deeper scratches may require wet sanding with wet/dry sand paper. Extremely deep scratches may require beginning with 220 grit, followed by 320, 400 and 600 progressively. Use the finest grit that will remove the scratch. Follow up with rubbing compound and finish with brass polish. You may prefer to purchase a kit designed to repair brass sinks. • We do not recommend the use of any paint-type coatings, as you will be left with 2 different finishes when the coating wears off.
