Broadcast Spreading
with a Spread — + -
Control™ Feature:
I
- Spreader distribution settings match most common 15-setting broadcast spreaders on the market.
- Select your material flow rate to the recommended setting listed on seed or fertilizer product
packaging for broadcast spreaders.
- Always fill your spreader over a hard surface to avoid damaging grass with spills
- Sweep up any excess or spilled material
- Read and understand the dispensing rates provided on product packaging
- Place the spreader on the lawn with the right wheel approximately 1 foot from the edge
- Activate the Spread Control™
- Start walking and squeeze the material flow trigger to start applying product
- Continue walking entire perimeter of your lawn (FIG.1)
- Release the material flow trigger before coming to a stop
- Disengage the Spread Control™
- The spreader will distribute material from both sides with a width of approximately 9 feet
- Continue to apply product walking back and forth with 5 feet between passes to allow some
overlap (FIG.2)
- PRO TIP: Divide the material flow rate by 2. Apply product, walking back and forth with 5 feet
between passes. Repeat spreading, perpendicular to the first pattem. (FIG. 3)
- Release material flow trigger before approaching perimeter path (FIG.3) Disengage material
flow at perimeter

Understanding Setting Rates
Identify the type of turf grass you have, as well as the square footage of the lawn. With
this information it’s easy to calculate how much material is needed for the job.
Fertilizer most commonly contains Nitrogen, Phosphate and Potash, and is labeled in
percentages (example 25-5-10). Nitrogen should be applied at a rate of 1 Ib per 1000
sq ft. The quickest way to calculate your needs is to divide the amount of nitrogen
desired (1.0 Ib nitrogen per 1000 sq ft) by the percentage of nitrogen in the bag (25%).
When using percentages in calculations, convert the number to its decimal form (for
example, 25% = 0.25 (1.0 Ib nitrogen per 1000 sq ft) — 0.25 = 4 Ib of a 25-5-10
fertilizer is needed to supply 1.0 Ib nitrogen per 1000 sq ft.
To calculate the phosphate and potash simply multiply the amount of fertilizer you are
applying (4 Ib per 1000 sq ft) by the percentage of phosphate in the bag (5%). Do the
same for potash (10%). Remember to convert the percentages of phosphate and potash
to their decimal forms.
(4 Ib fertilizer per 1000 sq ft) x 0.05 phosphate = 0.2 Ib phosphate per 1000 sq ft
(4 Ib fertilizer per 1000 sq ft) x 0.10 potash = 0.4 Ib potash per 1000 sq ft
Care and Maintenance
To insure optimum functionality rinse the material hopper, material chute, and spread
control components after each use.
