SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS
The brake arch (BR-6403, BR-1055,
BR-A550, BR-A500) must be used as
a set with the brake lever (BL-6403,
BL-1055, BL-A550, BL-A500) and the
Shimano SLR outer cable.
No other combination can be used.
Before use, read these instructions carefully, and follow them for correct use.
Notes
elf, due to the connection arrangement of the cable, the efficiency of
transmission of force decreases and the return of the arch is poor, turn the
sleeve 180° as shown in the illustration, so as to increase the spring force.
Note, however, that brake levers other than the SUPER SLR cannot be used,
even though the spring force is increased.

by using pliers or a pipe to hold as
shown in the figure.
®Never attempt to make the
centering adjustment by tapping or
hammering the spring and arch.

been completely and

3. With the cable placed along the front
part of the handlebar, cover with the
outer guide, be sure that the
installation is done so that the
pointed part is at the lever side.
4. Cut the outer guide to correspond to
the length of the handlebar.
5. Temporarily secure the outer guide to
the handlebar (by using tape or
similar material).

Note: Cut the cable at the length at which it is not
pulled tight when the handlebar is turned all
the way to the left and right. If a squeaking
noise occurs after a long period of use,
lubricate the (A) parts.

Installation of the brake
Be sure to follow the sequence described A
when installing.
1. Installation of the brake itself
Compress the arch, and set while
the shoe is in firm contact with the
rim.
The position at which the mark on
the upper part of the brake arm is
facing directly upward is the quide
for the installation position.

The usual position during installation is

adjustment screw's head is flush with the
surface of the brake body.

Due to the configuration of the lia
dual-pivot brake, a minimum clearance
of 1 mm is necessary.
3. Cable connection
Set the quick lever to the closed position; then adjust the shoe clearance
(as shown in the illustration below) and secure the cable.
(cable bolt tightening torque: 60—80 kgfcm (50—70 in.lbs.) )
4. Centering of the brake shoe
Make a minor adjustment by using the centering-adjustment screw.

5. Readjustment of the shoe clearance
Turn the cable-adjustment bolt to readjust the shoe clearance.
