IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

Before the appliance is used, it must be properly positioned and installed as per the instructions in the Installation section. To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or injury, follow basic precautions including the following:

1. Read all instructions before using the appliance.

2. Plug into a grounded 3-prong outlet, do not remove grounding prong, do not use an adapter, and do not use an extension cord.

3. Do not place any other household appliances on top of the unit.

4. It is recommended that a separate circuit, serving only your appliance be provided. Use receptacles that cannot be turned off by a switch or pull chain.

5. Never clean appliance parts with flammable fluids. Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any other appliance. The fumes can create a fire hazard or explosion.

6. Failure to unplug the appliance during cleaning could result in electrical shock or personal injury.

7. Do not connect or disconnect the plug when your hands are wet.

8. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Do not repair or replace any part of the refrigerator. Return appliance to SWG Canada for examination, repair or adjustment. See Warranty.

9. To ensure proper ventilation for your appliance, follow the instructions in the

Installation section for proper clearances. Choose a well-ventilated area with temperatures above 50°F (10°C) and below 90°F (32°C).

10. Do not use outdoors.

11. The appliance should not be located next to ovens, grills or other sources of high heat.

12. It is important for the appliance to be leveled to work properly.

13. Never allow children to operate, play with or crawl inside the unit.

14. Do not use this appliance for other than its intended use.

DANGER - Risk of child entrapment

Before disposing of your appliance, ensure that the door (s) are removed. Shelves should also be left in place to help avoid children climbing inside. Never allow a child to operate, play with or climb inside the appliance.

GROUNDED PLUG

To reduce the risk of electric shock this appliance has a grounded plug. (2 blades and 1 pin) If the plug does not fit fully into the electrical outlet contact a qualified electrician. Do not modify the plug in any way or use an adaptor.

Use an exclusive wall outlet. Do not connect your refrigerator to extension cords or together with any other appliance in the same wall outlet. If the power cord is too short, have a qualified electrician or service technician install an outlet near the appliance.

BEFORE FIRST USE

1. Remove all packaging and labels. If there is any glue residue rub a small amount of liquid dish soap with your fingers then wipe with warm water.

Dry.

NOTE:

Do not use any sharp instruments, rubbing alcohol, flammable fluids or abrasive cleaners to remove tape or glue.

2. Wipe the inside of the unit and the Door Gasket with a cloth or sponge dampened in a warm water and baking soda solution, 30 ml (2 tbsp) baking soda to 1 liter/quart of water.

3. Wash the shelf with mild detergent.

4. The exterior should be cleaned with a soft cloth dampened in mild detergent and warm water.

5. Wring excess water out of the cloth before cleaning any areas that have the controls or electrical parts.

6. Follow the instructions in the Installation section before plugging in the unit.

INSTALLATION

1. Let the refrigerator stand upright for approximately 4 hours before plugging into the power source. This will reduce the possibility of a malfunction in the cooling system from handling during transportation.

2. This refrigerator is designed to be free standing. It was not designed for recessed or enclosed area installation.

3. Place your refrigerator on a floor that is strong enough to support it when it is fully loaded.

4. Do not use in any location not properly insulated or heated, e.g. garage etc. Your refrigerator was not designed to operate in temperatures below

50°F (10°C) or above 90°F (32°C). In extreme cold ambient temperatures the refrigerator will not perform properly. Avoid locating the refrigerator in damp or moist areas. Excessive moisture may cause frost to form quickly on the evaporator. This would require more frequent defrosting of the refrigerator. Locate the refrigerator away from direct sunlight and sources of heat (stove, heater, radiator, etc). Direct sunlight may affect the acrylic coating and heat sources may decrease cooling efficiency.

5. Ensure there is a minimum of 13 cm (5”) clearance on both sides and back of the refrigerator to allow for proper air circulation.

NOTE: If you are installing your refrigerator next to a fixed wall, leave sufficient space on the hinge side to allow for the door to swing open.

6. Level the refrigerator by adjusting the legs at the front of the refrigerator.

Turn the Leg clockwise to raise the unit or turn counterclockwise to lower.

While adjusting the Legs, have someone push against the top of the refrigerator to take some weight off the front leveling legs.

NOTE:

To help with door closure, position legs with a 1/8" (3 mm) tilt to the back.

7. Once the refrigerator has been plugged in, allow the interior to cool for

2-3 hours before putting food inside.

HOW TO USE

Refrigerator:

1. Turn the Temperature Control Dial to the #4 setting and run for at least

2 – 3 hours before putting food inside.

2. The range of the refrigerator Temperature Control is from position #1

(warmest) to #6 (coldest). Adjust the temperature to the setting that best suits your needs. Change the setting one increment at a time and allow several hours for temperature to stabilize between adjustments.

Freezer:

1. Recommended thermostat setting for ice making is position #6.

2. Fill the ice cube tray 2/3 full, with cold water or with any liquid suitable for freezing and place the tray on the bottom of the freezer to freeze properly.

3. Dry the bottom of the tray, to avoid it sticking to the bottom of the freezer.

4. The best method to get ice cubes out of the tray is to hold the tray under cold tap water for a second.

5. To eject the ice cubes from the tray, place over the ice bucket and twist slightly.

6. Reset the temperature control to setting #4.

HELPFUL HINTS

1. If the unit is unplugged or loses power you must wait 3 to 5 minutes before restarting the unit. If you attempt to restart before this time delay, the refrigerator will not start.

2. Do not place foods over the air outlet. Leave space for air flow.

3. Large amounts of food will lower the efficiency of the appliance.

4. The freezer compartment is designed for ice making and short term storage of some commercially frozen foods.

5. The temperature of the freezer compartment may not reach a low enough temperature to store frozen foods safely for a long period of time. Only store previously frozen food and place in the freezer compartment as quickly as possible after purchase. Follow the package instructions regarding storage times.

REVERSING THE DOOR

1. Unplug the Refrigerator from the wall outlet and empty everything from the Refrigerator door and shelves.

2. Remove the plastic covering from the bottom door hinge.

3. Unscrew the 3 screws from the bottom bracket.

4. Remove the foot from the opposite side.

5. Slide the Refrigerator door down and off the top hinge pin.

6. Remove the screws from the top bracket and replace on the other side.

7. Slide the Refrigerator door back onto the top hinge, making sure it is the right way up.

8. Screw the bottom hinge into place on the new side.

9. Replace the foot and the plastic covering.

10. Check that the door is aligned horizontally and vertically and that the seals are closed on all sides before finally tightening the bottom hinge.

11. Re-adjust the leveling feet.

CARE AND CLEANING

Cleaning

1. Unplug the refrigerator and remove the food and shelf.

2. Wipe the inside of the refrigerator and the Door Gasket with a cloth or sponge dampened in a warm water and baking soda solution, 30 ml

(2 tbsp) baking soda to 1 liter/quart of water.

3. Wash the shelf with mild detergent.

4. The exterior should be cleaned with a soft cloth dampened in mild detergent and warm water.

5. Wring excess water out of the cloth before cleaning any areas that have the controls or electrical parts.

6. Do not use abrasive cleansers, which can damage or scratch the finish.

7. Clean Door Gaskets every three months. Gaskets must be kept clean and pliable to assure a proper seal.

Defrosting

1. Defrost the freezer compartment whenever the layer of frost on the surface of the evaporator (at the inside back of the refrigerator) reaches

3 or 4 mm.

2. When defrosting remove all food and ice cube tray and set the thermostat at the “OFF” position.

3. Put the drip tray under the evaporator to collect water.

4. After the frost has melted, discard the water and clean the interior of refrigerator, following the instructions in the Cleaning section.

5. The refrigerator can then be restarted by turning its thermostat to the desired setting.

Power Failure

Most power failures are corrected within a few hours and should not affect the temperature of your appliance if you minimize the number of times the door is opened.

NOTE:

If the unit is unplugged, has lost power, or is turned off; you must wait

3 to 5 minutes before restarting the unit. If you attempt to restart before this time delay, damage may occur and or the appliance may not start.

Vacations

•

Short vacations:

Leave the appliance operating during vacations of less than 3 – 4 weeks.

•

Long vacations:

If the appliance will not be used for over one month, remove all items and unplug the power cord. Clean and dry the interior thoroughly. To prevent odor and mold growth, leave the door open slightly: blocking it open if necessary.

Moving your Refrigerator

1. Remove all contents and store properly.

2. Securely tape down all loose items inside your appliance.

3. Turn the leveling screws up to the base to avoid damage.

4. Tape the door shut.

5. Be sure the appliance stays secure in the upright position during transportation. Also protect the outside of appliance with a blanket, or similar item.

TROUBLESHOOTING

PROBLEM

Refrigerator does not operate.

CAUSE/SOLUTION

• Not plugged in.

• The circuit breaker tripped or a blown fuse.

Compressor turns on and off frequently.

Temperature inside the refrigerator is too warm.

• The room temperature is hotter than normal.

• A large amount of food has been added to the refrigerator.

• The door is opened too often.

• The door is not closed completely.

• The temperature control is not set correctly.

• The door gasket does not seal properly.

• The refrigerator does not have the correct clearances.

• The refrigerator has recently been disconnected for a period of time. A 4 hour period is required for the refrigerator to cool down completely.

• Temperature control is set too warm. Turn the control to a cooler setting and allow several hours for the temperature to stabilize.

• Door is kept open too long or is opened too frequently. Warm air enters the refrigerator every time the door is opened. Open the door less often.

• The door is not closed completely.

• The door gasket does not seal properly.

• A large amount of warm or hot food might have been stored recently. Wait until the refrigerator has had a chance to reach its selected temperature.

• The refrigerator has recently been disconnected for a period of time. Allow several hours for the temperature to stabilize.

Temperature inside the refrigerator is too cold.

• Temperature control is set too cold. Turn the control to a warmer setting and allow several hours for the temperature to stabilize.

Temperature of external refrigerator surface is warm.

• The exterior refrigerator walls can be as much as

F warmer than room temperature. This is normal while the compressor works to transfer heat from inside the refrigerator cabinet.

Popping or cracking sound when compressor comes on.

• Metal parts undergo expansion and contraction, as in hot water pipes. This is normal. Sound will level off or disappear as refrigerator continues to run.

PROBLEM

Bubbling or gurgling sound, like water boiling.

Vibrations.

Moisture forms on inside refrigerator walls.

Moisture forms on outside of refrigerator.

The door will not close properly.

CAUSE/SOLUTION

• Refrigerant (used to cool refrigerator) is circulating throughout the system. This is normal.

• Check to assure that the refrigerator is on a level surface.

• Floor is uneven or weak. Refrigerator rocks on the floor when it is moved slightly. Be sure the floor can adequately support the refrigerator. Level the refrigerator by putting wood or metal shims under part of the refrigerator.

• The refrigerator is touching the wall. Re-level the refrigerator and move it from the wall.

• See the Installation section.

• Weather is hot and humid, which increases internal rate of frost build-up. This is normal.

• Door is slightly open.

• Door is kept open too long, or is opened too frequently. Open the door less often.

• The door is not sealed properly.

• Door is slightly open, causing cold air from inside the refrigerator to meet warm moist air from outside.

• The refrigerator is not on a level surface.

• The gasket is dirty.

LIMITED WARRANTY

SWG Canada warrants that this appliance shall be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one year from the date of purchase. During this

‘in-warranty’ period, defective products will be repaired or replaced at the discretion of the retailer and/or SWG Canada. This warranty covers normal domestic usage and does not cover damage which occurs in shipment or failure which results from alteration, accident, misuse, abuse, glass breakage, neglect, commercial use or improper maintenance.

A defective product should be returned to the original place of purchase within the retailer’s stipulated return/exchange period*.
