• Like any oscillometric blood pressure measurement devices, certain medical conditions can affect the measurement accuracy, among others:

– disorder of the cardiac rhythm

– very low blood pressure

– patients in shock

– patients with very low blood perfusion

– diabetes

– vessel anomalities

– people with electrical implants, such as a cardiac pacemaker

– women who are pregnant.

Due to their condition the oscillometric measurement method can produce incorrect readings. This represents a risk for your health, since values may be interpreted incorrectly. Always consult your physician to determine what will be suitable for you.

• Never try to adapt or plug this device to the AC line.

This device is battery powered.

• This product does not and is not intended to provide a medical diagnosis. Measurements results are for reference only. Self-diagnosis and treatment, e.g. regarding medication, using measured results represent a risk for your health. Always consult with a licensed physician for determination of appropriate medication and dosage thereof. Follow the instructions of your physician or licensed healthcare provider. If you have or suspect that you have a medical problem, promptly consult your physician. If you have an emergency please call 911 immediately.

ralysis can cause a life threatening situation.

WARNING:

• The ‘irregular heartbeat’ function does not replace a cardiac examination, but may help to detect potential pulse irregularities at an early stage. Always consult your physician to determine what will be suitable for you.

• The ‘irregular heartbeat’ function is not designed for diagnosing or treating an arrhythmic disorder. Arrhythmia can only be ascertained by a licensed physician.

• The WHO chart is not intended to replace a medical diagnosis. This chart is only a reference for different classifications of blood pressure.

• If you notice abnormal or suspicious variations in blood pressure measurements, consult your physician immediately.

• Prior to use, you have to ensure that the blood pressure monitor is free of damage. If in doubt, do not use the unit and contact customer service. Please see warranty for service contact.

• This device is intended only for personal, non-commercial, adult use in measuring blood pressure and pulse rate. Do not use the product for any other purpose. This product is not intended for use in a hospital, physician’s office, or any other health care facility.

• The unit must be used in accordance to the specified ambient conditions, otherwise the accuracy of readings might be affected. See section “9. Care, maintenance and storing the instrument” and section “12. Technical


• Do not wrap the cuff around body parts other than your left wrist. Misuse represents a risk to your health.

• Use this monitor only on humans.

• Swallowing batteries and/or battery fluid can be extremely dangerous. Keep the batteries and the unit out of the reach of children and disabled persons. Should any person swallow a battery and/or battery fluid, please call 911 immediately.

• Batteries should not be charged or reactivated by any other means. The batteries may explode.

• Batteries should not be taken apart, thrown in the fire or short circuited. The batteries may explode.

• Should battery fluid leak and come into contact with your eyes or skin immediately rinse with plenty of clean water. Please call 911 immediately.

• This product is not intended for use by or on children, toddlers and infants or on persons who cannot express their consent, e.g. persons with mental disorders or the like. Consult your physician for alternative methods of measuring a child’s blood pressure.

• This product is not a toy. Keep it out of reach of children, toddlers, and infants.

• Keep the product out of the reach of pets.

• Do not drop this monitor or subject it to strong impact.

• Packaging materials are a deadly hazard for children and can cause suffocation. Remove all packaging materials immediately and keep them away from children at all times.

• This product contains small parts that may present a choking hazard to children. Keep the unit and all parts out of reach of children. NEVER LEAVE CHILDREN OR

THOSE WHO REQUIRE CLOSE SUPERVISION UNAT-

TENDED WITH THIS DEVICE.

• People with disabilities, activity limitations, or who are physically frail, should be assisted by another person when using this unit.

• Proper cuff size is important for accurate measurements. Only use the device on adults who have the right wrist circumference for this instrument. See section “12. Technical Specifications” for suitable wrist circumferences.

• Do not use any accessories other than those explicitly recommended by “Beurer North America” for use with this product. Parts and accessories not approved for use with the device may cause damage to your health and to the product.

• Electromagnetic interference: Avoid strong electrical or electromagnetic fields in the direct vicinity of the device

(e.g. mobile telephones, microwave ovens) while it is in operation, as inaccurate measurements may result.

To prevent such interference, use the unit at a sufficient distance from such devices or turn the devices off.

• Do not measure your blood pressure while operating a vehicle or in any situation which requires your full attention.

CAUTION:

• The device should not be used when your arm/wrist has been wounded/injuried or when a catheter has been inserted. Such use may result in injury.

• Remove any kind of wrist jewelry or the like before taking a measurement. This could cause bruises.

• Do not place the wrist cuff over heavy clothing (e.g. a jacket or sweater sleeve) as the blood pressure monitor will not be able to take a proper measurement and there is an elevated danger of acquiring hematoma or skin marks during the course of the measurement.

• In case the cuff does not stop inflating, interrupt the measurement by pressing the START/STOP button and open the cuff at once.

• If a battery has leaked do not touch the battery fluid.

Avoid skin contact (e.g. put on protective gloves) and clean the battery compartment with a dry cloth.

• Do not disassemble the unit, it may result in injuries.

CAUTION:

• Blood pressure measurements can lead to temporary marks on the skin at the site of the cuff placement. This is especially the case in high repetition rates, in hypertonic patients and in patients with weak pulses. In rare cases a mark may persist for a couple of days. Please contact your physician about these specific risks of cuff pressure in your specific case.

• For hygienic reasons the cuff is intended only for the use by one person.

NOTICE:

• The blood pressure monitor is made up of precision electronic components. Accuracy of readings and the instrument’s service life depend on careful handling. Protect the unit against hard knocks (e.g. dropping the unit), moisture, water, dirt, dust, chemicals, extreme hot or cold temperatures, major temperature fluctuations, direct exposure to sunlight and heat sources which are too close (e.g. stoves, heating radiators). This may damage the unit. The device must be stored in the specified ambient conditions. Please see section “9. Care, maintenance and storing the instrument” and section “12. Technical


• Do not use any aggressive solvents, cleaning agents, detergents or any other strong chemicals to clean the device.

• Never immerse and or spill water or any other liquid onto the monitor or any components, otherwise liquid will enter it and cause damage.

• Do not wash the unit in a washing machine, dish washer or tumble dryer.

• Observe the local regulations for material disposal. Dispose of the device, components and optional accessories according to applicable local regulations. Unlawful disposal may cause environmental pollution.

• Batteries can contain toxins that are harmful to the environment. Always dispose of batteries in accordance with applicable local regulations. Do not dispose of batteries with normal household waste.

• Always use the size and type of battery indicated. The use of other batteries will damage the device.

• Never use different types of batteries, battery brands or batteries with different capacities. This may damage the unit. You should preferably use alkaline batteries.

• Never use rechargeable batteries. This may damage the unit.

• Always replace all batteries at the same time and use batteries of the same type.

• Remove the batteries if the monitor will not be used for a month or more to avoid damage of battery leakage.

• Replace weak batteries before they discharge completely. When appears in the display please change the batteries.

• Leaking batteries may damage the device. If you do not intend to use the unit for longer periods, remove the batteries from the battery compartment before placing the device in storage.

• Never attempt to repair, open and/or disassemble the unit (including cuff and optional accessory) or adjust it yourself. This may damage the unit and impair the functions. If you need to have the unit repaired, please contact our customer service. Please see warranty for service contact. Before submitting any complaint, first check the batteries and replace them if necessary.

• Changes or modifications to the device will nullify the user warranty.

• Do not drop or insert any object into any opening. This may damage the unit.

• Do not press the buttons with excessive force or with pointed objects.

• This blood pressure monitor is verified by auscultatory method. It is recommended that you check annex B of

ANSI/AAMI SP-10:2002+A1:2003+A2:2006 for details of verification method if you need.

• Blood pressure measurements determined by this monitor are equivalent to those obtained by a trained observer using the cuff/stethoscope auscultation method, within the limits prescribed by the American National

Standard Institute, Electronic or automated sphygmomanometers.

1. Getting to know your instrument

The wrist blood pressure monitor is used for non-invasive measurement and monitoring of adults’ arterial blood pressure. This allows you to quickly and easily measure your blood pressure and to display the last recorded measurement. The values determined are classified and graphically evaluated according to WHO guidelines.

Touch screen activation switch

The device features a touch screen display. To prevent the screen from being activated accidentally, keep the touch screen activation switch set to OFF when the device is not in use. To operate the device, move the touch screen activation switch to ON. When the touch screen display is touched (START/STOP button or MEM button), a beep is output.

Tip: You can switch off the device at any time by setting the touch screen activation switch to the OFF position.

To do this you require a USB cable (included in delivery) and the Beurer “Health Manager”.

5. Inserting / Replacing batteries

WARNING:

Note: To conserve the batteries, the monitor switches off automatically if you do not press any buttons for 1 minute.

Inserting battery

• Open the battery compartment lid.

• Use exclusively brand-name batteries of the type: 2 x 1.5 V AAA (Alkaline

Type LR03). Making absolutely sure that you insert them with the correct polarity as marked. Do not use rechargeable batteries.

• Replace the battery cover carefully.

• 24 h is displayed. Press the MEM button to choose the

12-hour AM/PM or 24-hour universal clock. Confirm your selection with START/STOP .

Note:

– If you select 24-hour time format date will be displayed

Day/Month. – If you select 12-hour time format date will be displayed Month/Day.

• The year display will start to flash. Set the year with the

MEM button and confirm with START/STOP .

• Then set the month, day, hour and minutes and confirm each setting with START/STOP .

• Pressing the START/STOP button again will switch the display off.

If the battery change is continuously illuminated, measurement is no longer possible and you must replace all the batteries. Once batteries have been removed from the device, the time must be reset.

6. Measuring blood pressure

Setting date and time

You should set the date and time without fail. Otherwise, you will not be able to save your measured values correctly with a date and time and to access them again later.

The time can be shown in 12-hour AM/PM or 24-hour universal clock.

Tip: If you press and hold the MEM button, you can set the values more quickly.

To set the date and time, proceed as follows:

• Move the touch screen activation switch to the ON position.

• Press the START/STOP and MEM buttons simultaneously.

6.1 Positioning cuff

Note: Always properly position the Arm Cuff on your wrist, according to the following instructions.

• Bare your left wrist, making sure that the circulation in the arm is not restricted by tight clothing or other objects that are too tight. Position the cuff on the inside of your wrist. Do not place the wrist cuff over heavy clothing (e.g. a jacket or sweater sleeve) as the blood pressure monitor will not be able to take a proper measurement.

• Fasten the cuff with the Velcro fastening so that the upper edge of the monitor is positioned approx. 0.4”

(1 cm) below the ball of your thumb.

• The cuff has to be fitted tightly around the wrist but should not constrict it.

6.2 Correct posture

• Rest at least for 5 minutes before each measurement.

Otherwise there may be erroneous results.

• You can perform the measurement either sitting or lying down. Always make sure that the cuff is on a level with your heart. Otherwise there may be serious divergences. Relax your

• In order not to distort the result, it is important to keep still during the measurement and not talk. The most precise measurement results are obtained if you strive for a relaxed measurement situation. You may close your eyes and breathe calmly during the measurement.

• Please note that any muscle movement during inflation or deflation can cause measurement error.

6.3 General Notes

• For reliable monitoring and reference of blood pressure, keeping long-term records is recommended.

• Always measure on the same wrist.

• Do not share the cuff with other infecitve person to avoid cross-infection.

• To minimize measurement variations due to physical activity, rest at least 5 minutes before measuring your blood pressure (or 15 minutes after strenuous activity).

You should not be physically tired or exhausted while taking measurement.

• In order to obtain a resting condition blood pressure, avoid eating, drinking alcohol and caffeinated beverages, smoking, exercising, and bathing for at least 30 minutes before taking a measurement.

• Stress raises blood pressure.

• Perform measurements in a quiet and relaxed environment at room temperature.

• Always wait at least 5 minutes between measurements to allow the blood circulation in your arm to return to normal. Prolonged over-inflation of the bladder may cause ecchymoma of your arm. You may need to increase the wait time depending on your individual physiological characteristics. Because of normal physiologic changes and the many external factors influencing blood pressure, it is unusual to obtain identical blood pressure measurements, even when taken a few minutes apart. Speak with your physician to determine what is affecting your blood pressure and which variation may be seen as normal in your case.

• The accuracy of any blood pressure measurement with this device can be affected by a multitude of causes.

Some can be avoided some have to be accepted at the time of measurement. Speak with your physician about possible causes affecting your blood pressure.

• Do not inflate the cuff unless wrapped around wrist.

• If no button is pressed for approx. 1 minute the automatic shut off function shuts off the unit in order to preserve the batteries.

• Do not touch the unit and cuff and/or press any buttons when measurement is in progress, except for stopping the measurement. Doing so may cause incorrect readings.

6.4 Taking Measurement

NOTE:

If you are using the unit for the first time, please remove the protective film from the display.


• Switch on the blood pressure monitor with the START/

STOP button . After the full-screen display, the most recently used user memory appears ( or ). To change the user memory, press the MEM button and confirm your selection with the START/STOP button

. If no button is pressed, the most recently used user memory is automatically used after 5 seconds.

• Before the measurement, the last saved test result is briefly displayed. If there is no measurement in the memory, the instrument always displays the value

• The cuff is pumped up first time to 190 mmHg. Cuff air pressure is released slowly.

If a tendency towards high blood pressure is already detectable, the cuff is pumped up again and cuff pressure increased further. As soon as a heart rate is detected, the heart rate symbol is displayed.

• After the pressure has been completely reduced, the systolic pressure, diastolic pressure and pulse readings are displayed.

• You can cancel the measurement at any time by pressing the START/STOP button or by pushing the touch screen activation button to OFF.

appears if it has not been possible to perform the measurement properly. Observe the section in these instructions on error messages/troubleshooting and repeat the measurement.

• The test result is saved automatically.

• To switch off the device, press the START/STOP button

or push the touch screen activation switch to OFF.

If you forget to switch off the device, it switches off automatically after approx. 1 minute.

Wait at least 5 minutes before taking another measurement.

7. Evaluating results

• If Irregular Heartbeat (IHB) brought by common arrhytmias is detected in the procedure of blood pressure measurement, a signal of will be displayed. Under

17 this condition, the Electronic Sphygmomanometer can keep function, but the results may not be accurate, it´s suggested that you consult with your physician for accurate assessment. There are 2 conditions under which the signal of IHB will be displayed:

1) The coefficient of variation (CV) of pulse period >25%.

2) The difference of adjacent pulse period ≥0.14s, and the number of such pulse takes more than 53 percentage of the total number of pulse.

Note: A single measurement does not provide an accurate indication of your true blood pressure. You need to take and record several readings over a period of time. Try to measure your blood pressure at the same time each day for consistency.

7.1 Irregular heartbeat symbol

WARNING:

• The ‘irregular heartbeat’ function does not replace a cardiac examination, but may help to detect potential pulse irregularities at an early stage. Always consult your physician to determine what will be suitable for you.

• The ‘irregular heartbeat’ function is not designed for diagnosing or treating an arrhythmic disorder. Arrhythmia can only be ascertained by a licensed physician.

NOTE:

• Talking, moving, shaking or an irregular pulse during the measurement can result in the appearance of this symbol.

Repeat the measurement if the flashing icon is displayed after the measurement. Please note that you should rest at least

5 minutes between measurements and not talk or move during the measurement. If the icon continues to be displayed in subsequent readings, we recommend you to consult your physician in order to determine if it is cause for concern. Do not try to interpret readings or attempt to treat any condition yourself. Always follow the guidance of a health professional.

The bar graph in the display and the scale on the unit indicate the range of the blood pressure which has been recorded.

Note: If the values for systolic and diastolic pressure are in two different WHO ranges (e.g. systolic in the high-normal range and diastolic pressure in the normal range) the graphic WHO classification on the unit indicates the higher range (high-normal in the example described).

No component can be maintained by user in the monitor.

The circuit diagrams, component part lists, descriptions, calibration instructions, or other information which will assist the user’s appropriately qualified technical personnel to repair those parts of equipment which are designated repairably can be supplied.

8. Saving, retrieving and deleting results

• The results of each successful measurement are stored together with date and time. With more than 60 items of measured data, the earliest items of data measured are lost.

• Make a selection with the MEM button, and then confirm the desired user memory with the START/STOP button . If you press the MEM button again, the average value of all the stored measured values in the user memory will be displayed. If you press the MEM button again, the average value of the last 7 days for the morning measurement will be displayed (Morning:

5 a.m. – 9 a.m., display ). If you press the MEM button again, the average value of the last 7 days for the evening measurement will be displayed (Evening: 6 p.m.

– 8 p.m., display ). If you continue to press the MEM button, the most recent individual measured values with date and time are displayed in turn.

• You can delete the memory by pressing and holding the

MEM button for 3 seconds. All the values in the current user memory are deleted after three beeps are output.

• To switch off the device, press the MEM button again or the START/STOP button or push the touch screen activation switch to OFF.

• If you forget to switch off the device, it will switch off automatically after 2 minutes.

9. Care, maintenance and storing the instrument

• Do not disassemble the unit, it may result in injuries.

NOTICE:

• The blood pressure monitor is made up of precision electronic components. Accuracy of readings and the instrument’s service life depend on careful handling.

Protect the unit against hard knocks (e.g. dropping the unit), moisture, water, dirt, dust, chemicals, extreme hot or cold temperatures, major temperature fluctuations, direct exposure to sunlight and heat sources which are too close (e.g. stoves, heating radiators). This may damage the unit. The device must be stored in the specified ambient conditions. Please see section “9. Care, maintenance and storing the instrument” and section

“12. Technical Specifications” for details.

• Please avoid strong magnetic interference, such as mobile phones, mivrowaves etc.

• Do not use any aggressive solvents, cleaning agents, detergents, solvents or any other strong chemicals to clean the device.

• Never immerse and or spill water or any other liquid onto the monitor or any components, otherwise liquid will enter it and cause damage.

• Do not wash the unit in a washing machine, dish washer or tumble dryer.

• Observe the local regulations for material disposal. Dispose of the device, components and optional accessories according to applicable local regulations. Unlawful disposal may cause environmental pollution.


• Never attempt to repair, open and/or disassemble the unit (including cuff and optional accessory) or adjust it yourself. This may damage the unit and impair the functions. If you need to have the unit repaired, please contact our customer service. Please see warranty for service contact. Before submitting any complaint, first check the batteries and replace them if necessary.

• Clean the cuff after usage of every 200 times is recommended.

NOTICE:

• If this monitor is stored near the freezer, allow it to acclimate to room temperature before use.

• Avoid high temperature and solarization.

• Changes or modifications to the device will nullify the user warranty.

• Do not drop or insert any object into any opening. This may damage the unit.

• Do not press the buttons with excessive force or with pointed objects.

To keep your digital blood pressure monitor in the best condition and protect the unit from damage follow the directions listed below:

• Clean your device and cuff carefully only with a slightly moistened soft cloth and dry it immediately with a soft dry cloth. Do not press.

• When storing the device, make sure that no heavy objects are placed on top of it.

• If the unit is stored near freezing, allow it to acclimate to room temperature before use.

• Always store the unit in the box after use.

• It is recommended the cuff should be disinfected

2 times every week if needed (for example, in hospital or in clinique). Wipe the inner side (the side contacts skin) of the cuff by a soft cloth squeezed after moistened with Ethyl alcohol (75 – 90 %), then dry the cuff by airing.

• This unit may not meet its performance specifications if stored or used outside of the temperature and humidity ranges (see section “12. Technical Specifications”).

• Use the unit consistent with the instruction provided in this manual.

10. Alarm / error messages / troubleshooting

13. Glossary

Blood pressure – The pressure exerted by circulating blood on the walls of blood vessels; constitutes one of the principal vital signs.

Arterial blood pressure is constantly fluctuating during the course of the cardiac cycle. The highest pressure in the

cycle is called the systolic blood pressure, and represents the pressure in the artery when the heart is beating. The lowest pressure is the diastolic blood pressure, and represents the pressure in the artery when the heart is at rest. Both the systolic and the diastolic pressure are necessary for a physician to evaluate the status of a patient’s blood pressure.

Many factors such as physical activity, anxiety, stress, eating, smoking, medication or the time of day, can influence your blood pressure. Blood pressure is typically low in the mornings and increases from the afternoon to the evening. It is on average lower in the summer and higher in the winter.

Electromagnetic Disturbance – An interruption of the physical field produced by electrically charged objects; affects the behavior of charged objects in the vicinity of the field.

mmHg – Millimeter of mercury, the standard unit of measure used for blood pressure measurements.

Oscillometric Methodology – A method of pressure measurement using an electronic pressure sensor.

Pulse Rate – The frequency of the heartbeat, measured in beats per minute.

World Health Organization (WHO) – A specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that acts as a coordinating au- thority on international public health.

14. Warranty

Limited Lifetime Warranty For Original Purchaser

Your Beurer Blood Pressure Monitor, Model BC 58, excluding the cuff, batteries and any optional accessory, is warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the product under normal conditions of intended use and service. The cuff is warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship appearing within two years from date of purchase when the monitor is used in accordance with the instructions provided with the unit.

This warranty extends only to the original retail purchaser and does not extend to retailers or subsequent owners.

We will, at our option, repair or replace the Beurer Blood

Pressure Monitor, Model BC 58, without additional charge, for any part or parts covered by these written warranties.

No refunds will be given. Repair or replacement is our only responsibility and your only remedy under this written warranty. If replacement parts for defective materials are not available, the Warrantor reserves the right to make product substitutions in lieu of repair or replacement.

For warranty service contact our customer service department at 1-800-536-0366 or at [email protected] to provide a description of the problem. If the problem is deemed to be within the scope of the limited lifetime warranty, you will be asked to mail the product at your costs in its original package with proof of purchase, your name, address and phone number. The maximum liability of Beurer under this warranty is limited to the purchase price actually paid by the customer for the product covered by the warranty, as confirmed by proof of purchase, regardless of the amount of any other direct or indirect damage suffered by the customer.

This warranty is effective only if the product is purchased and operated in the country in which the product is pur chased. A product that requires modifications or adoption to enable it to operate in any other country than the country for which it was designed, manufactured, approved and/or authorized, or repair of products damaged by these modifications is not covered under this warranty.

Este es el caso especialmente cuando se usa repetidamente, en pacientes hipertónicos y en pacientes con pulso débil. En algunos casos poco comunes una marca puede persistir varios días. Consulte a su médico con respecto a los riesgos específicos de presión del brazalete en su caso en particular.

• Por razones higiénicas, el brazalete es exclusivamente de uso personal.

• El tensiómetro está integrado por componentes electrónicos de precisión. La precisión de las lecturas y la vida de servicio del instrumento dependen del manejo cuidadoso. Botón de activación de la pantalla táctil

Este dispositivo tiene una pantalla táctil. Para impedir que la pantalla se active accidentalmente, mantenga el botón de activación de la pantalla táctil en la posición OFF

(apagado) cuando el dispositivo no se esté usando. Para operar el dispositivo, mueva el botón de activación en la pantalla táctil a la posición ON (encendido). Cuando se toca la pantalla táctil (botón START/STOP [inicio/detención] o MEM [memoria]), se generará un pitido.

5. Inserción y reemplazo de las

baterías

ADVERTENCIA:

• La ingestión de baterías o líquido de baterías puede ser sumamente peligrosa. Mantenga las baterías y la unidad fuera del alcance de los niños y de las personas con discapacidad. Si alguien ingiere una batería o el fluido de la batería, llame inmediatamente al 911.

• Las baterías no deben cargarse ni reactivarse por ningún otro medio. Las baterías pueden explotar.

• Las baterías no deben abrirse, arrojarse al fuego ni conectarse en corto circuito. Las baterías pueden explotar.

• En caso de que el fluido de batería se derrame y haga contacto con sus ojos o piel, enjuague de inmediato con agua limpia en abundancia. Llame de inmediato al 911.

Insertar batería

• Abra la tapa del compartimiento de la batería.

• Use exclusivamente baterías de una marca de buena reputación del tipo:

2 baterías de 1.5 V AAA (tipo alcalino

LR03). Asegúrese al 100% de que las insertó con la polaridad correcta en la forma indicada. No use baterías recargables.

• Coloque con cuidado la tapa de las baterías.

Si el cambio de batería está iluminado permanentemente, no es posible hacer la medición y se deben reemplazar las baterías. Una vez que se hayan retirado las baterías del dispositivo, la hora debe volver a ajustarse.

Ajuste de la fecha y hora

Deberá ajustar la fecha y la hora sin errores. De otro modo, no podrá guardar sus valores medidos correctamente con una fecha y hora para acceder a ellos más adelante.

El tiempo se puede mostrar en formato de 12 horas AM/

PM o reloj universal de 24 horas.

Sugerencia: Si presiona y mantiene presionado el botón

MEM, puede ajustar los valores más rápidamente.

Para ajustar la fecha y hora proceda como sigue:

• Presione el botón de activación de la pantalla táctil para cambiarlo a la posición ON (encendido).

• Presione los botones START/STOP (inicio/detención) y MEM (Memoria) al mismo tiempo.

• Se muestra 24 h. Presione el botón MEM para escoger el formato 12 horas AM/PM o reloj universal de 24 horas.

Confirme su selección con el botón START/STOP .

Nota:

– Si selecciona el formato de 24 horas, la fecha se mostrará en el formato Día/Mes. – Si selecciona el formato de 12 horas, la fecha se mostrará en el formato Mes/Día.

• Los números del año empezarán a destellar. Ajuste el año con el botón MEM y confirme con START/STOP .

• Luego ajuste el mes, día, hora y minutos y confirme cada ajuste con START/STOP .

• Al presionar el botón START/STOP se apagará la pantalla otra vez.

6. Medición de la presión sanguínea

ADVERTENCIA:

• Consulte a su médico antes de comenzar a medir su presión sanguínea.

• Lea y comprenda todas las instrucciones y advertencias antes de usar este dispositivo.

• Al igual que con cualquier dispositivo oscilométrico de medición de la presión sanguínea, algunas afecciones pueden afectar la exactitud de la medición, entre otras:

– trastorno del ritmo cardiaco

– presión sanguínea muy baja

– pacientes de estado de shock

– pacientes con perfusión sanguínea muy baja

– diabetes

– anormalidades en vasos sanguíneos

– personas con implantes eléctricos, como marcapasos

– mujeres embarazadas.

Debido a su afección, el método de medición oscilométrica puede dar lecturas incorrectas. Esto representa un riesgo para su salud, puesto que los valores se pueden interpretar incorrectamente. Consulte siempre a un médico para determinar qué es lo más adecuado para usted.

• Nunca trate de adaptar o enchufar este dispositivo a la línea de CA. Este dispositivo funciona con baterías.

• Este producto no tiene el propósito de ser un sustituto del consejo de un médico o un profesional de la medicina. Este producto no es para sustituir los exámenes médicos periódicos. Comuníquese con su médico para pedir información específica sobre su presión sanguínea.

• El tamaño de brazalete adecuado es importante para obtener mediciones exactas. Use el dispositivo sólo en adultos que tengan la circunferencia de muñeca adecuada para este instrumento. Consulte la sección

“12. Especificaciones técnicas” para conocer las circunferencias de muñeca adecuadas.

• Interferencia electromagnética: Evite los campos eléctricos o electromagnéticos fuertes cercanos al dispositivo (como teléfonos celulares y hornos de microondas) mientras está en operación, ya que se pueden producir mediciones inexactas. Para prevenir esa interferencia, use la unidad a una distancia suficiente de estos dispositivos o apáguelos.

• No mida su presión sanguínea mientras opera un vehículo o esté en una situación que exija toda su atención.

PRECAUCIÓN:

• El dispositivo no se deberá usar si hay lesiones o heridas en el brazo o la muñeca, ni con un catéter insertado. Usarlo así puede producir lesiones.

• Retire toda clase de joyas u objetos similares de la mu-

ñeca antes de hacer una medición. Eso podría causar moretones.

• No ponga el brazalete sobre ropa gruesa (como una chaqueta o la manga de un suéter), ya que el tensiómetro no podrá hacer una medición adecuada y existe un alto riesgo de provocar un hematoma o dejar marcas en la piel durante el curso de la medición.

6.1 Colocación del brazalete

Nota: Coloque siempre el brazalete correctamente en su muñeca, de acuerdo con las siguientes instrucciones.

• Descúbrase la muñeca izquierda y asegúrese de que la circulación en el brazo no quede restringida por ropa ajustada ni por otros objetos demasiado apretados. Coloque el brazalete en el lado interno de la muñeca. No ponga el brazalete sobre ropa gruesa (como una chaqueta o la manga de un suéter), ya que el tensiómetro no podrá hacer una medición adecuada.

• Fije el brazalete con el sujetador de velcro de modo que el borde superior del monitor quede ubicado aproximadamente a 0.4” (1 cm) por debajo de la articulación del pulgar.

• El brazalete tiene que quedar ajustado alrededor de la muñeca pero no debe dificultar la circulación.

6.2 Postura correcta

• Descanse al menos 5 minutos antes de cada medición.

De lo contrario, puede obtener resultados erróneos.

• Puede realizar la medición sentado o acostado. Asegúrese siempre de que el brazalete esté al mismo nivel que el corazón. De otro modo, puede obtener divergencias serias. Relaje el bra-

• Para no distorsionar el resultado, es importante mantenerse inmóvil durante la medición y no hablar. Los resultados de medición más precisos se obtienen si intenta lograr una situación de medición relajada. Puede cerrar los ojos y respirar con calma durante la medición.

• Observe que cualquier movimiento muscular durante el proceso de inflado o desinflado puede causar un error de medición.

6.3 Notas generales

• Para lograr un monitoreo y referencia fiables de la presión sanguínea, se recomienda mantener registros a largo plazo.

• Mida siempre en la misma muñeca.

• No comparta el brazalete con una persona que esté infectada para evitar el riesgo de infección cruzada.

• Para minimizar las variaciones del instrumento debido a la actividad física, descanse al menos 5 minutos antes de medirse la presión sanguínea (o 15 minutos después de una actividad extenuante). No deberá estar físicamente cansado ni agotado al hacer la medición.

• Para obtener la presión sanguínea en condición de reposo, evite comer, ingerir bebidas alcohólicas y con cafeína, fumar, hacer ejercicio y bañarse al menos 30 minutos antes de hacer una medición.

• El estrés eleva la presión sanguínea.

• Haga las mediciones en un entorno tranquilo y relajado a temperatura ambiente.

• Espere siempre al menos 5 minutos entre mediciones para dejar que la circulación sanguínea en el brazo vuelva a la normalidad. El inflado excesivo prolongado de la cámara de aire puede causar equimoma en el brazo.

Es posible que necesite aumentar el tiempo de espera dependiendo de sus características fisiológicas individuales. Debido a los cambios fisiológicos normales y los numerosos factores externos que afectan a la presión sanguínea, es raro obtener mediciones idénticas de presión sanguínea, incluso cuando se toman con intervalo de pocos minutos. Hable con su médico para determinar qué está afectando su tensión arterial y qué variación podría considerarse normal en su caso.

• La exactitud de cualquier medición de la presión sanguínea con este dispositivo puede verse afectada por numerosas causas. Algunas pueden evitarse y algunas se tienen que aceptar en el momento de la medición.

Hable con su médico sobre las posibles causas que afectan su tensión arterial.

• No infle el brazalete a menos que esté envuelto en la muñeca.

• Si no se presiona ningún botón durante aproximadamente 1 minuto, la función de apagado automático apaga la unidad para conservar las baterías.

• No toque la unidad ni el brazalete, ni oprima ningún botón durante la medición, excepto para detenerla. Hacerlo puede causar lecturas incorrectas.

6.4 Para hacer una medición

NOTA:

Si está usando la unidad por primera vez, retire la película protectora de la pantalla.


• Encienda el tensiómetro con el botón START/STOP (inicio/detención) . Después de la visualización de pantalla completa, aparece la última memoria del usuario utilizada ( o ). Para cambiar la memoria del usuario, oprima el botón MEM y confirme su selección con el botón START/STOP . Si no se oprime un botón, la

última memoria del usuario utilizada se emplea automáticamente después de 5 segundos.

• Antes de la medición, se muestra brevemente el último resultado guardado. Si no hay ninguna medición en la memoria, el instrumento siempre muestra el valor

• El brazalete se infla por primera vez a 190 mm de Hg. La presión del brazalete se libera lentamente.

Si ya se puede detectar una tendencia a la hipertensión arterial, el brazalete se infla otra vez y la presión del brazalete se eleva más. Tan pronto como se detecta un ritmo cardiaco, se muestra el símbolo de ritmo cardiaco .

• Después de que la presión se reduce por completo, se muestran las lecturas de presión sistólica, presión diastólica y pulso.

• Puede cancelar la medición en cualquier momento al presionar el botón START/STOP o al cambiar el botón de activación en la pantalla táctil a OFF (apagado).

7. Evaluación de resultados

El autodiagnóstico y el tratamiento, por ejemplo respecto a medicamentos, basados en los resultados de las mediciones representan un riesgo para su salud. Si tiene un problema médico o sospecha

tenerlo, consulte inmediatamente a su médico. Si se le presenta una emergencia, llame al 911 de inmediato.

• Solo un médico o un profesional capacitado de salud que esté familiarizado con su historial médico podrá interpretar con exactitud sus mediciones de presión sanguínea. Consulte a su médico antes de comenzar un monitoreo de la presión sanguínea.

• Si observa variaciones anormales o sospechosas en las mediciones de presión sanguínea, consulte a su médico inmediatamente.

• Si en el procedimiento de medición de presión sanguínea se detecta un ritmo cardiaco irregular (IHB) causado por arritmias comunes, aparecerá una señal de

7.1 Símbolo de ritmo cardiaco irregular

ADVERTENCIA:

• La función ‘ritmo cardiaco irregular’ no reemplaza un examen cardiaco, pero puede ayudar a detectar irregularidades potenciales en el pulso en una etapa temprana. Consulte siempre a un médico para determinar qué es lo más adecuado para usted.

El usuario no puede dar mantenimiento a ningún componente del monitor. Se pueden suministrar los diagramas de circuito, listas de piezas componentes, descripciones, instrucciones de calibración y otra información que ayudará al personal técnico adecuadamente calificado a reparar esas piezas de equipo que se diseñan para recibir servicio.

8. Cómo guardar, recuperar y borrar resultados

• Los resultados de cada medición correcta se guardan junto con la fecha y hora. Al tener más de 60 lecturas de datos medidos, se pierden las lecturas más recientes.


• Haga una selección con el botón MEM, y luego confirme la memoria del usuario deseada con el botón

START/STOP . Si oprime el botón MEM otra vez, se mostrará el valor promedio de todos los valores medidos almacenados en la memoria del usuario. Si oprime el botón MEM otra vez, se mostrará el valor promedio de los últimos 7 días de la medición matutina (mañana:

Tensión arterial: la presión que ejerce la sangre que circula sobre las paredes de los vasos sanguíneos; constituye uno de los principales signos vitales.

La presión arterial fluctúa rápidamente durante el ciclo cardiaco. La presión más alta en el ciclo se llama tensión arterial sistólica y representa la presión en la arteria cuando el corazón está latiendo. La presión más baja es la tensión arterial diastólica y representa la presión en la arteria cuando el corazón está en reposo. Un médico necesita tanto la presión sistólica como la diastólica para evaluar el estado de la tensión arterial de un paciente.

Hay muchos factores que pueden influir en la tensión arterial, como la actividad física, la ansiedad, el estrés, las comidas, el tabaco, los medicamentos y la hora del día. La tensión arterial es normalmente baja en las mañanas y aumenta a partir de la tarde hasta la noche. En promedio es más baja en verano y más alta en invierno.

BC 58 is used exceeds the applicable RF compliance level above, the BC 58 should be observed to verify normal operation. If abnormal performance is observed, additional measures may be necessary, such as re-orienting or relocating the BC 58.

Recommended separation distances between portable and mobile RF communications equipment and the BC 58

The BC 58 is intended for use in an electromagnetic environment in which radiated RF disturbances are controlled. The customer or the user of the BC 58 can help prevent electromagnetic interference by maintaining a minimum distance between portable and mobile RF communications equipment (transmitters) and the BC 58 as recommended below, according to the maximum output power of the communications equipment.

For transmitters rated at a maximum output power not listed above, the recommended separation distance d in meters (m) can be determined using the equation applicable to the frequency of the transmitter, where P is the maximum output power rating of the transmitter in watts (W) according to the transmitter manufacturer.
