ALTEC, the musical sound specialists, combines distinctive styling and dynamic sound
reproduction to produce the 1203A and 1205A Powered Speaker Systems. Precision
designed and manufactured, the ALTEC 1203A and 1205A complement ALTEC'S 1200
series control consoles.
Both the 1203A and 1205A provide 85 watts of power handling capability for each
speaker added. One to ten of these systems added to each output jack of the control
consoles provide as much as 1700 watts output power capabilities.
Using the famous, “The Voice of the Thastre" components; modified for musical sound
application, the 1203A and 1205A are comprised of one 15” low frequency speaker, and
one 800 Hz (1203A), and one 500 Hz (1205A) cast aluminum sectoral horn. The horn
embodies a revolutionary new diaphragm о? СУ “ construction, capable of
handling 85 watts of power over the mid-range and high frequencies.
The ALTEC 1203A and 1205A Powered Speaker Systems contain a built-in amplifier
rated at 85 watts rms (220 watts peak music power). A solid-state unit, 100 percent
silicon, the operating temperature is maintained within safe limits by a heat sink located
in a protective shield on the back panel.
A unique feature of the built-in amplifier is the active dissipation-sensing circuit,
providing protection to the output transistors. Should a malfunction occur, or the load
represent a severe downward mismatch in the presence of high level program material,
the sensing circuit prevents the output transistors from operating in a mode which would
cause damage or degradation. As the action of the circuit is immediate and effective at
all frequencies within the passband of the amplifier only that portion of the program
material which would damage the transistors is limited. The amplifier recovers its normal
function automatically as soon as the output fault is removed.
Compact and portable, the ALTEC 1203A and 1205A Powered Speaker Systems are
constructed of 3/4" plywood with vinyl Lavant coverings and vinyl edge bumbers, and
supplied with casters for easy ‘roll around’ handling.

ARCHITECTS’ AND ENGINEERS’ SPECIFICATIONS
The speaker system shall be of the two-way theatre type, with input sensitivity 0.5 vrms for rated output. The
power rating shall be 85 watts rms (220 watts peak music power). :
The speaker system shall incorporate a built-in solid state 100 percent silicon amplifier rated at 85 watts.
Operating temperature of the amplifier shall be maintained within safe limits by a heat sink located in a
protective shield on the back panel of the amplifier, providing a chimney effect for heat transfer. The amplifier
shall provide a jack in parallel with the input jack for multiple speaker arrangements. The speaker system
amplifier shall also include an active dissipation-sensing circuit, providing protection to the output transistors.
The high frequency section shall consist of a compression-type driver, coupled to a straight cast aluminum
sectoral horn, embodying a new Совы " diaphragm assembly.
The speaker system enclosure shall be of 3/4” plywood construction with vinyl Lavant coverings and vinyl edge
bumpers. The enclosure shall be fitted with casters and side handles for ease of handling.

(1203A) Frequency response of the speaker system shall be 40 to 15,000 Hz with input sensitivity 0.5 vrms for
rated output.
The speaker system shall employ one 15” low frequency speaker, and one 800 Hz cast aluminum
horn, and shall be capable of handling 85 watts of power over the mid-range and high frequencies.
Overall size of the speaker system shail be 42” high x 24” wide x 20-1/2” deep. The weight of the
speaker system shall not exceed 112 pounds.
Any speaker system not meeting these requirements shall be deemed unacceptable under these
specifications.
The speaker system shall be ALTEC Lansing model 1203A.
Frequency response of the speaker system shall be 35 to 20,000 Hz. The speaker system shall employ
one 15” low frequency speaker, and one 500 Hz cast aluminum sectoral horn, and shall be capable of
handling 85 watts of power over the mid-range and high frequencies.
Overall size of the speaker system shall be 45 high x 28” deep x 25-1/2" wide. The weight of the
speaker system shall not exceed 137 pounds.
Any speaker system not meeting these requirements shall be deemed unacceptable under these
specifications.
The speaker system shall be ALTEC Lansing model 1205A.
