This inst rument h as three p lug-in co mp artments that accept TEKTR ON IX 7-series plug-in u nits to form α com plete measurement system. The two p lug-in co mp artments on the left are co nn ected to the ve rtical deflectio n system . The right p lug-in compartment is co nnected to the h orizontal d eflectio n system . E lectro nic switchi ng between the vertical p l ug-i n co mp a r tments allows α multi-trace vertical d isplay. T h e flexibility of th is p l ug-i n featur e and t he variety of pl ug-in un its availa b le allow this system to b e used for many measurement app lications . 1 η add itio n , the instru ment co ntains α readout system to pr ovide α C R T d is p lay of al ph a n ume r ic informatio n from the plug-i n units. Data such as d eflection factor, sweep rate, etc . can be encoded a nd displayed on th e CR T. This inst rument features α large-sc ree n, 8 Χ 10 d ivision display; each d ivisio n eq uals 1 .22 centimeters. The C RT provides small spot size and fast writing speed . R eg ulated DC powe r supplies assure that performance is n ot affected by va riations in li ne voltage and f requ ency, or by changes in th e load du e to the va ryi ng p ower req ui rements of the p lug-in un its. M aximum power co nsumption is about 170 watts (60 h ertz, 115-volt li ne) . 7603/137603 Sectio n 1-7603/R 7603 Operators O PER ATI N G I N ST RU CTIO N S General To effectively use the 7603, the o p eratio n and capabilities of the inst ru me nt must be kn own . T his section d escr ibes the operation of the f ront- and rea r-panel co ntrols and connecto rs and gives si mp lified a n d general op e r ati n g info rmation . PREL I M I NA RY I NF ORM ATIO N O p erating Voltage W A RN I N G This instrument is design ed for operation from α with its neutral at or near earth potential with α separate safety-earth conductor. It is not intended fo r operation from two power source (ground) phases of α mult ί-ph ase system, or across the legs of α single-phase, three-wire system . T he 7603 can be operated from either α 110-volt or α 220-volt nominal line-voltage source, In add ition, th ree operating ranges can be selected with in each nominal line voltage source . The voltage-selecto r ju m per on the R ectifier board (see Fig. 1-1) allows selectio n of the o perating voltage. To co nve rt the instru ment from one regulating ra nge to anot her, fi rst d isconnect the instrume nt from the power source . Then, slid e out the power un it as d escribed in the Mai n tenance sectio n. R emove the voltage-selecto r ju mper a nd r e-install it on the set of pins whic h re prese nt the desired reg u lating ra nge . Select α ra nge w h ic h is centered about the average li n e voltage to wh ic h t he i nst rument is to b e connected (see Table 1-1) . Fig . 1-1 . To co nvert from 110-volts to 220-volts n ominal li ne voltage, or vice ve rsa, rem ove the voltage-selector ju mper and replace it with t he spare ju mper (sto red on pi ns adj acent to voltage selector area) . T he ju mpers are colo rcod ed to ind icate the n ominal voltage for wh ich t hey are inte nd ed ; brow n fo r 110-volt nomi nal o peratio n a nd red for 220-volt nomi nal operatio n . Change the li ne fuse to p rovi d e p rotection fo r t he selected nomi nal li ne voltage. Use the fuse located in the A LT FU SE hol d er on the R ectifier b oard (see Fig. 1-1) or see Table 1-1 for value.
