To continue use, empty the liquid waste from the tank as outlined in the previous paragraph. Dolly Assembly (Fig 5) 1. Prior to installation, set Plastic - Snap-On Dolly in room temperature for approximately 15 minutes. You will find four swivel stem casters in a plastic bag. Install them into the caster socket by inserting the caster stem into the hole and applying pressure until you feel the caster snap in 3. Remove tank cover and invert tank so that bottom is facing up. 4. When Plastic Snap-On Dolly has warmed sufficiently, place on top of inverted tank. 5. Start at a caster position and slowly press onto the lip of the bottom of the tank. (Press on from right to left). NOTE: The last clip to be pressed may snap off. lf this occurs, don’t be alarmed. This will not affect the durability nor operation of the dolly. № Filter (Fig 6) Your vacuum cleaner is equipped with a special foam filter sleeve which, if given proper care, can be used indefinitely. The filter should be cleaned periodically as pre- scribed in the following steps: 1. Always disconnect the plug from the wall receptacle before removing the tank cover. Place tank cover in an upside down position. Remove filter by sliding it up and off the internal plastic cage. 2. Shake excess dust off filter with - arapid up and down movement. 3. Hold filter under running water - for a minute or two, again rinsing from the inside. A water wash is not always required, depending on the condition of the filter. 4. Gently squeeze out loose water and blot filter with a clean towel. The filter is now ready to install. 5. Install the filter by placing the tank cover in an upside-down position on any convenient surface. Stretch the filter sleeve over the plastic cage and slide it into place. If it should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This appliance is equipped with a cord having an equipment-ground- ing conductor and grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accor- dance with all local codes and ordi- nances. . DANGER—Improper connection of the equipment-grounding con- ductor can result in a risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified elec- trician or serviceman if you are in doubt as to whether the receptacle is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the appli- ance—f it will not fit the outlet, have - a proper outlet by a qualified electri- cian. This appliance is for use on a nominal 120 volt circuit, and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illustrated in sketch A. A tem- | porary adapter that looks like the plug illustrated in sketches B and C may be used to connect this plug to a 2-pole receptacle as shown in sketch B if a properly grounded out- let is not available. The temporary adapter should be used only until a properly grounded outlet (sketch A) can be installed by a qualified elec- trician. The green colored rigid ear or lug extending from the adapter must be connected to a permanent ground such as a properly ground- CHART FOR MINIMUM WIRE SIZE (AWG) | OF EXTENSION CORDS С NAMEPLATE TOTAL EXTENSION CORD LENGTH-FEET RATING-AMPS 25 50 75 100 125 150 175 200 0-10.0 18 18 16 16 14 14 12 12 10.1 - 13.0 16 16 14 14 14 12 12 12 12 12 12 12 12 — 13.1 - 15.0 14 14 ed outlet box cover. Whenever the adapter is used, it must be held in place by a metal screw. Lubrication No lubrication is necessary as the motor is equipped with lifetime lubricated bearings. Storage Before storing your cleaner, the tank should be emptied and cleaned. The power cord can be wound around the housing of the © unit for convenience. Accessories may be stored in the tank while those that can't be stored in the tank should be kept in the same area as the cleaner so they can be readily available. The cleaner should be stored indoors. Extension Cords Tools that have 3-wire cords requiring grounding must only be used with extension cords that have 3-prong grounding type plugs and 3-pole receptacles. Make sure which construction your tool is before choosing an extension cord. Only round jacketed extension cords should be used, and we rec- ommend that they be listed by Underwiriters Laboratories (U.L.) (C.S.A. in Canada). If the extension will be used outside, the cord must be suitable for outdoor use. Any © cord marked as outdoor can also be used for indoor work. The letters “WA” on the cord jacket indicate the cord is suitable for outdoor use. An extension cord must have adequate wire size (AWG or American Wire Gauge) for safety, and to prevent loss of power and overheating. The smaller the gauge number of the wire, the greater the capacity of the cable, that is 16 gauge has more capacity than 18 gauge. When using more than one extension to make up the total length, be sure each individual extension contains at least the mini- mum wire size. To determine the minimum wire size required, refer to the chart _ above. Before using an extension cord, inspect it for loose or exposed wires, damaged insulation, and | defective fittings. Make any needed repairs or replace the cord if neces- sary. Black & Decker has extension cords available that are U.L. (C.S.A. in Canada) listed for outdoor use. Motor Your Black and Decker tool is powered by a universal motor. Be sure your power supply agrees with voltage marked on nameplate. Volts 50/60 Hz means Alternating Current only. Volts DC-60 Hz or AC/DC means it will operate on Alternating Current or Direct Current. Voltage - decrease of more than 10% will cause loss of power and over-heat- ing. The Power Unit The Motor is mounted above the tank so that it is kept clear of dust, debris and water that accumulate on the bottom of the tank. A Filter Assembly mounted over the motor unit prevents fine dust from clogging the fan and escaping through the exhaust (Fig. 1). Automatic shut-off for wet pick-up is provided by a float type valve that automatically shuts off suction when liquid in tank reaches capacity level. The Vac also serves as a blower to blow out debris from behind radi- ators or to clear outside walks from grass clippings or leaves. This can be done by simply inserting the hose into the exhaust port (Fig. 2). Set-up 1. Remove tank cover and take out any accessories which may have been shipped in the tank. Install the disc filter (for dry pick-up only, referring to Fig. 3). 2. Slip cleaner end of flexible hose into the intake port on the tank. 3. Attach the desired attachments to the hose. Be sure the cleaner switch is in the off position. Plug the cord into the wall outlet. Your cleaner is ready for use. FIG.3 - REUSABLE DRY DISC FILTER Reusable Dry Filter is to be used when you utilize your wet/dry vac for dry pick-up. This filter should always be in position over the foam filter sleeve for dry pick-up. INSTALLATION 1. Disconnect the plug from the wall outlet and remove tank cover. 2, Ensure that the foam filter sleeve is cleaned and dry and installed over the filter cage before installing the reusable dry filter, | 3. Place tank cover in an upside down position and center reusable dry filter over the filter cage. 4. Place mounting ring over reusable dry filter and push down until ring is positioned against ribs of tank cover. | -5. Be sure the reusable dry filter completely covers the foam filter sleeve. Also check to ensure that all edges of the reusable dry filter are secure under the mounting ring. IMPORTANT REMOVE THIS FILTER WHEN USING VAC FOR WET PICK-UP. REPLACE MOUNTING RING OVER FOAM FILTER SLEEVE. FOAM FILTER SLEEVE MUST BE POSITIONED OVER FILTER CAGE FOR WET PICK-UP. NOTE: ON SOME OLDER SHOP-VAC MODELS YOU MAY FIND THE MOUNTING RING DOES NOT HOLD THE REUSABLE DRY FILTER SECURELY IN PLACE, IF THIS OCCURS, THE ELASTIC MOUNTING BAND CAN BE USED TO SECURE THE REUSABLE FILTER. Efficiency of the vacuum is largely dependent on the filters. A clogged filter can cause over-heating and possible damage to the cleaner. To clean the reusable dry filter, remove from filter cage and shake off loose dirt and dust. A water rinse can also be used depending on the condition of the filter. Allow filter to dry before installing back on filter cage. DO NOT MACHINE WASH OR DRY, IN WARNING TO AVOID HEALTH HAZARDS FROM VAPORS OR DUST, DO NOT VACUUM TOXIC, CARCINOGENIC OR OTHER HAZARDOUS MATERIALS SUCH AS ASBESTOS, ARSENIC, BARIUM, BERYLLIUM, LEAD, PESTICIDES, HERBICIDES OR OTHER HEALTH ENDANGERING MATERIALS. (LABEL: EXPLODED VIEW) CENTER ON > aan _ REUSABLE DRY DISK FILTER (Bottom View) POLYFOAM SLEEVE =>, MOUNTING ” RING "REUSABLE DRY DISK FILTER a POWER UNIT Operation Always disconnect the plug from the wall receptacle before removing the tank cover. Dry pick-up cleaning situations involve the pick-up of fine dust and debris, thus a reusable disc filter has been provided to ensure better filtration. This disc fil- ter should always be in position over the foam filter for dry pick-up. Efficiency of the vacuum cleaner is largely dependent on the filters. A clogged filter can cause over- heating and possibly damage the _ cleaner. Shake off loose dirt and dust. A water rinse can also be used depending on the condition of the filter. DO NOT MACHINE WASH OR DRY. Wet Pick-Up This cleaner requires only a mini- mum of conversion when going from dry to wet pick-up. Empty all dry materials from the tank and remove disc filter. The mounting ring should then be placed over the top of the foam filter next to the cover. o NOTE: Wet pick-up accessories should be washed periodically especially after picking up wet, sticky kitchen accidents. This can be accomplished with a warm solu- tion of soap and water. After com- pleting a wet pick-up, raise the hose above the cleaner to permit any lig- uid in the hose to drain into the tank before shutting off. The interior of the tank should be periodically cleaned. It is coated with a specially developed corrosion resistant coat- ing to give long life. Emptying Liquid — Wastes from the Tank Your Vac may be emptied of lig- uid waste by removing the tank cover. To empty, stop the motor and remove the plug from the wall receptacle. Remove the tank cover and deposit the liquid waste con- tents into a suitable drain. After the tank is empty, return the cover to its original position. To con- tinue use, plug the cord into the wall receptacle and start the motor. Basson 2
