Add-on/Spare PCIe Card Instructions
This document describes how to add a PCIe card to or replace an existing PCIe card in an Overland-Tandberg SnapServer
DX2.
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of electric shock or damage to equipment, always remove any power cords while working with the unit.

CAUTION:
While working with the unit, observe standard
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) precautions to prevent damage to micro-circuitry or static-sensitive devices.
NOTE: The Spare may come without the mounting bracket.
Reuse the existing bracket.
Register a New PCIe Card
NOTE: If you are only replacing an existing PCIe card, skip ahead to
the next section, “Prepare the Unit.”
It is essential that the product be registered because technical and warranty support is not available until then.
For an existing customer:
1.
Go to http://support.overlandstorage.com/ support page.
2.
Enter your e-mail address and password , and then press Enter or click the right arrow ( > ).
3.
At the Support Home page, click Register New .
4.
Enter the requested information and click Submit .
Your warranty certificate will be emailed to you. Follow the instructions in the email to complete the process.
For a new customer, go to the New User Registration page and follow the instructions.

Prepare the Unit
Power Off and Disconnect
If the unit is still running, power it down cleanly:
1.
Use the Web Management Interface to power off the unit
( Maintenance > Shutdown/Restart > Shutdown ).
2.
When all the LEDs are off, disconnect the power cords .
3.
Disconnect the remaining cables from the unit, noting their locations.

Remove the Front Bezel
1.
Carefully take hold of the front bezel and pull it straight out from the appliance until it releases.
2.
Set the bezel aside on a secure surface .
Remove the Drives
IMPORTANT: Overland recommends that you remove all the drives to reduce the unit’s weight prior to rack removal.
1.
Press the release button on the right side of the carrier.
2.
Using the built-in handle , pull the carrier out.
Repeat this procedure for all the remaining carriers.
NOTE: Do not remove the drives from their carriers as doing so voids the drive warranty.
Remove the Chassis from the Rack
WARNING:
It is recommended that a mechanical lifter (or at least two people) be used during rack installation or removal to prevent injury.

1.
Release the two captive screws on the lower left and lower right of the front flanges.
2.
Slide the chassis out until it stops.
3.
With a lifter positioned in front of the chassis, release the rail locks and slide the chassis onto the lifter.
4.
Move the chassis onto a secure surface .
Install/Replace the PCIe Card
Remove the Rear Top Panel
1.
Remove and retain the four screws on the sides holding the rear top panel.
2.
Using the panel depressions, slide the panel rearward about one-half inch (1.25cm).
3.
Lift the rear top panel off and set it aside.

Replace the PCIe Card
NOTE: If installing an additional PCIe
1.
At the rear (on top of the chassis wall), release and lift the bracket lock holding the cards in place.
2.
Grasp the existing PCIe card and carefully pull it straight up and out of the slot, then set it aside.
3.
Insert the new PCIe card into the same slot, positioning the card bracket in the rear bracket slot.
4.
Fold down and press the bracket lock until it clicks into place.
Continue with
“Reinstall the Rear Top Panel.”
Install a New PCIe Card
Install the new PCIe card in the next available PCIe slot on the motherboard.
1.
At the rear (on top of the chassis wall), release and lift the bracket lock holding the cards in place.
2.
Insert the new PCIe card into the next empty slot on the motherboard, positioning the card bracket in the rear bracket slot.
3.
Fold down and press the bracket lock until it clicks into place.
Reinstall the Rear Top Panel
1.
Position the rear top panel on the chassis with no more than one-half inch (1.25cm) extending out over the rear of the unit.
2.
Slide the panel forward until it is fully seated.
3.
Using the four retained screws , secure the panel.
Reinstall the Chassis in the Rack
Remount the Chassis
1.
Pull the middle rack rails out of the rack.
2.
Using the mechanical lifter, position the chassis in front of the rack rails.
3.
Slide the chassis side rails into the rack rails, and push the chassis all the way to the rear.
4.
Secure the chassis using the two captive screws on the front flanges.

Reinstall the Carriers
1.
Position the drive carrier in front of a drive bay.
2.
Push the carrier in until the latch closes, locking the carrier in the drive bay.
Repeat the procedure for each remaining drive carrier.
IMPORTANT: To maintain proper airflow and cooling, a drive or blank carrier must be installed in every bay. No empty bays are allowed.
Reattach the Bezel
1.
Position the bezel with the tabs aligned inside the top and bottom edges of the chassis.
2.
Push the bezel onto the unit until it snaps into place.
3.
Verify that the bezel is aligned properly with all the
LEDs visible and the Power Panel on the right side in line with the hole on the bezel flange.
Reattach the Cables and Power Cords
1.
Reattach all the cables (not including the power cords) to the same chassis connections previously used.
2.
Next, attach the power cords .
3.
At the front, press the power switch to power it on.
Return the Replaced Part to Overland
1.
Put the replaced part in the anti-static bag and place it in the box the part came in.
2.
Use an RMA to return the part to Overland Storage .
