Technical and Safety
It is very unlikely that your stairlift will stop while travelling.
However, if it does and is causing an obstruction, we have provided you with a hand-winding tool and instructions on how to manually move your stairlift out of the way.
If your stairlift stops at the end of the rail and the green power light on the armrest goes off, use the checklist on page 21. If the checklist does not help you to solve the problem, please follow the instructions below.
If in any doubt, please contact your Stannah supplier for help. Details are on the back page.
To move the stairlift using the hand-winding tool
Switch off the master power switch.
See page 7.
Remove the plastic cap on the front of the chair base.
Put the hand-winding tool into the hole where labelled.
Turn the handle as shown on the label on the chair base.
SAFETY NOTICE
Never use the stairlift when the hand-winding tool is in the hole
19
Technical and Safety
Follow these points to make sure you always use your stairlift safely.
Make sure no one else is using the stairlift before you call it using the remote calling controls.
You can remove the power key to stop others from using your stairlift.
Stand with your feet clear of the footrest when you lower the seat.
Make sure the area around the hinged rail is clear before moving the stairlift.
Always use the seatbelt. Only undo it when you have reached the top or bottom of the stairs and are ready to get off.
Keep your elbows tucked in close to your body when using the stairlift.
Only one person should ever use the stairlift at any time.
Never use the stairlift when the hand-winding tool is in the hole.
Never allow children to use the stairlift unsupervised.
Never attempt to dismantle the stairlift.
In the unlikely event of your stairlift breaking down during its travel.
Swivel the chair towards the top of the stairs using the manual swivel levers, undo seatbelt and exit onto stairs. Do not attempt to exit your stairlift before swivelling the chair towards the top of stairs. You can then fold the chair up and swivel it back to its travelling position.
You should then make your way to the nearest end of the stairs.
Report breakdown to your Stannah supplier.

Help
It is unlikely that you will ever experience a problem with your stairlift. If you do, please use the following checklist.
If the checklist doesn’t help you to solve the problem, contact your stairlift supplier, details on the back page.
Stairlift will not move
The green power light is off
Check that the master power switch is switched on – see page 7.
Check that the power key is inserted and turned to the on position – see page 8.
The stairlift will not work if either of these are switched off.
The green power light is on
Check that the chair is swivelled back to its travelling position and that the swivel levers are fully raised.
The chair will not move unless it is in this position – see pages 4 and 14.
Check whether there is anything obstructing the safety edges- see picture.
If there is, the stairlift is still on and can be moved in the opposite direction to allow you to remove the obstruction.
You can then continue to go up or down the stairs.
If your stairlift still does not move, the batteries may be flat
Leave it to recharge overnight at the bottom of the stairs. If this does not work, call your Stannah supplier. Even with flat batteries the Stairlift should have enough power to get down to the bottom of the stairs. If you can safely do so, (1) turn the power key to the off position, then back on. (2) press and hold the down control. After a few seconds the stairlift will start. Then call your Stannah supplier. If the stairlift stops during the above, repeat steps 1 and 2 until you reach the bottom of the stairs.

Help
Stairlift is beeping
The batteries are not being charged.
Please note that your stairlift can continue to run on battery power.
Check that the battery charger is plugged in. The position of the battery charger can be found on page 2 of this guide.
Check that there has not been a power outage.
Check that the stairlift is at the top or bottom of the stairs.
If you cannot correct the fault, you can switch off the beeper by turning the master power switch to the off position – see page 7. Then, please call your Stannah supplier.
Multi-user environments
Switch off the power key before getting into and out of the chair.
This will ensure that no one else can call the stairlift when you are using it.
Make sure the power key is turned to the on position when you have completed your journey. This ensures the stairlift will work for other users.
Remote calling controls do not work
Check the batteries – see page 17.
Powered swivel seat does not work
Please call your stairlift supplier.
You will still be able to use the manual swivel until a technician can visit you. Just make sure the swivel levers are fully raised when the chair is in the travelling position – See pages 4 and 14.
