Installing and removing the SIM card 1. Before installing the SIM card, launch Communication Manager, then tap the orange button. When the color of the icon turns , this indicates that the Pocket PC wireless connection is disabled. 2. Press the Power key to turn the screen off. 3. Disconnect the USB cable or AC adapter if either of them is connected to your Pocket PC. Removing the SIM card or battery while the Pocket PC is connected to a USB cable or AC adapter may damage your device. English Using the Pocket PC for the first time 6 English 4. To install the SIM card Open the slot cover and insert the SIM card with its cut-off corner facing toward the inside of the slot. Remember to close the slot cover. 5. To remove the SIM card Press the SIM card to pop it out of the slot. 6. To install the battery 7 English Charging the battery Do not remove the battery while charging. n Connect the AC adapter plug to any household power outlet. o Connect the AC adapter's other plug into the USB port. The Pocket PC will start charging automatically. p If you need to connect your Pocket PC to a computer, connect the USB cable to the USB port. Then connect the other end of the USB cable to a USB port on the computer. Your Pocket PC will also be charged while connected. n o p 8 English 1. It will take about eight hours to fully charge the battery the first time. Subsequent charging will only take about three hours. After charging, you can disconnect the AC adapter to take your Pocket PC with you. To ensure smooth operation, charge the battery regularly. 2. The battery icon in the upper right corner of the screen indicates remaining battery charge. 3. The LED indicator on the right of the Pocket PC indicates the charging and function status. Red: Device is charging. Red Red flashing every four seconds: Battery level low; missed calls or unread messages. Repeatedly flashing red twice: Battery level critical. Green: Battery fully charged. Green Green flashing every four seconds: GSM is connected and on line. 4. The LED indicator on the left of the Pocket PC indicates connectivity status. Blue Flashing blue every four seconds: Bluetooth enabled Amber Flashing amber every four seconds: WLAN enabled White Flashing white every four seconds: GPS enabled 9 If the phone, GPRS or wireless LAN connection are already activated, deactivate them first and then replace the battery. 1. Remove the battery cover. 2. Release the battery lock. 3. Replace the battery and secure it properly. When you remove the battery, your Pocket PC will enter sleep mode. 4. Slide the battery cover into the groove and click it shut. English Re-installing or replacing the battery 10 English Synchronization If you use Outlook on your PC, you can synchronize e-mail, contacts, calendar and more with your Pocket PC. 1. Install the synchronization tool on the PC. Install the synchronization tool before connecting your Pocket PC to your PC using the USB cable. Install the software from the Getting Started CD or download it from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/ to install the synchronization tool. 2. Set up a partnership Connect your PC and Pocket PC with the USB cable and then turn on your Pocket PC. When your PC detects your Pocket PC, it will start the synchronization tool wzard. Follow the onscreen instructions. Once the wizard has finished, data synchronization will begin. English Using the navigation functions 14 English Installing the Pocket PC in a car When using this device, please use with matching car mount. Affix device securely to the car mount. Please be aware that installation in the areas depicted below is forbidden and is strictly prohibited. n o p q n Do not place where it will obstruct driver vision o Do not place over air bag p Do not place where it can not be securely attached q Do not place in path of activated air bag 15 You should restart your Pocket PC if it is unable to maintain normal operation, does not response or if the screen is frozen. You have three choices: 1. Reset Resets the Pocket PC and retains all your data and custom settings. 2. Restore default settings Use this when the touch screen is functional. It will restore Windows Mobile and factory-installed programs. You will lose all your data and custom settings. 3. Cold Boot Force a hardware cold boot: You have the option of a simple reset or restoring the default settings. English Restarting the Pocket PC English 16 Reset To reset your Pocket PC Press the Reset key using the stylus tip. You should restart your Pocket PC if it is unable to maintain normal operation, does not response or if the screen is frozen. The Pocket PC will boot to the Today screen. This will retain Microsoft Windows Mobile, factory-installed applications, your data, other installed programs and custom settings. 17 English Restore default settings To restore the default settings Tap , Programs, Utilities, and then Default Settings. 1. If this application is inadvertently accessed, please select the to exit, the system will not be affected. 2. If you are certain that you wish to perform this action, please select the text box on the right, and enter the authorization code in the block on the left. Then tap OK. If the Pocket PC is unable to maintain normal operation, but the touch screen is functional. Please refer to the instructions in this section to troubleshoot. This will reinstall Microsoft Windows Mobile and factory-installed applications. Other settings such as your own data, installed programs and other custom settings will be erased. English 18 Cold boot To cold boot your Pocket PC Hold the Power key with one hand while using stylus tip to push in the Reset key with the other. Simultaneously release both the Power key and Reset key. Only do this if you have already tried to reset using another method, and your Pocket PC is still not operating normally, is not responding or the screen is frozen. There are two options for cold booting; please refer to the information below, and decide which option you will try. 1. Don’t press any key after the cold boot and allow the Pocket PC to boot to the Today screen. This is identical to the reset described earlier. 2. If you have tried the previous methods, and they have not solved the problem, then you may: n Press and hold both Power key and Reset key for a while, then release them simultaneously. o Wait for a few seconds until the screen wakes up displaying the model name, firmware version and firmware build date of your device, immediately press and hold Record key. p Continue pressing Record key and release it when you see an inquiry box shown on the screen. 19 Yes [press CAMERA button] This operation will delete all the data you stored on your device and restore it to factory default settings. If you press camera button upon seeing Yes [press CAMERA button] at the bottom of screen, all the data you stored, programs you installed and customized settings you made on your Pocket PC will be cleared. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the resetting after the Pocket PC reboots. If you do not press the camera button, the Pocket PC will wait a few seconds and then cancel the procedure. y Caution! This will erase all your data, any programs you installed and your settings. It will load Microsoft Windows Mobile and the factory-installed programs. If you want to retain your data, programs and settings you can only: 1. Perform a reset. 2. Perform a clean boot, and don’t press any key when the system inquiry screen is displayed. English ÁErase all data and load default? English 20
