Connecting HomeDock HD to your home entertainment center is a snap. We’ll get you started in three easy steps: STEP 1 - Setup your HomeDock HD Properly connect the power, audio and video to your home entertainment center and remove the plastic strip from your HomeDock HD Remote Control. See Setting Up HomeDock HD [pg.6] 2 STEP 2 - Power up Turn on HomeDock HD with the included Remote Control. STEP 3 – Dock your iPod, browse and play! Connect your iPod, allowing it to rest securely against the support stand, then use the RF Remote Control to browse and select music and videos. See On-Screen Navigation [pg.10]. 3 1 NOTE: When first connecting your iPod, the initialization process may take up to 45 seconds. For detailed information on setting up your HomeDock HD see Setting Up HomeDock HD [pg.6]. 4 4 | DLO HOMEDOCK HD USER MANUAL HDHD_manual_rev4.indd 4-5 1 homedock hd base 3 AC Power Adapter 2 AV Cable 4 RF Remote Control | 5 8/5/08 4:37:18 PM Setting Up HomeDock HD Your HomeDock HD is ready to use right out of the box. However, you will need to remove the thin plastic strip on the back of your Remote Control to engage the battery. If you do not have an HDMI-capable television or Home Entertainment Center, there are other ways to connect HomeDock HD: • Connect to your TV with the included AV Cable via the RCA audio and composite video connections • Connect to your TV with an S-Video cable (available separately), then to your home stereo with audio cables Connecting Your HomeDock HD 1 2 3 • Connect just to your home stereo without using a television 4 5 6 7 8 Basic Connection of HomeDock HD to Your TV 1. Plug the included AC Power Adapter into the back of the HomeDock HD Base, and the other end into any available AC power outlet. 2. Plug an HDMI cable (available separately) into the back of the HomeDock HD Base. 3. Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the corresponding jack of any available HDMI input on your TV or home stereo receiver. See NOTE on [pg.6] for information regarding music playback on your home stereo using HDMI. E D OC K HD 1 digital audio output [optical] 4 S-video output 7 auxiliary audio input 2 usb connection 5 composite video output 8 ac power input 3 hdmi output 6 rca audio output For the best high-definition performance, we recommend you connect the HomeDock HD to your TV using an HDMI cable (available separately). HDMI allows for just one connection to send both audio and video to your high-definition television. 4. Using your Remote Control, turn on your HomeDock HD. Be sure to turn on your TV (and/or home stereo) and then select the correct input for the HomeDock HD. NOTE: HDMI is the recommended connection option. See the following page for instructions on using Svideo or RCA connections. NOTE: If you are using HomeDock HD with just your home stereo connected, be sure to switch to iPod Mode by pressing the Mode Button on the Remote Control. This will allow you to control your iPod with the Remote Control, and to select and play music through your home stereo or even a powered-speaker setup without having a TV connected. NOTE: Using an HDMI connection directly into your television will route your iPod music through your TV’s speakers. To hear your iPod through an existing home entertainment system, you can also use the Digital Audio Output to connect to your home stereo. 6 | DLO HOMEDOCK HD USER MANUAL HDHD_manual_rev4.indd 6-7 | 7 8/5/08 4:37:18 PM Connecting HomeDock HD Using S-Video or RCA Connections 1. Plug the included AC Power Adapter into the back of the HomeDock HD Base, and the other end into any available AC power outlet. 2. Plug an S-Video cable or the included AV Cable into the Composite Video Output jack on the back of the HomeDock HD Base. 3. Plug the other end of the S-Video into the corresponding S-Video input on your TV or home stereo, or the included AV Cable into the RCA inputs on your TV or home stereo. 4. If using S-Video, plug the appropriate audio cable (available separately) into the Digital Audio Output jack on the back of the HomeDock HD Base. If using the included AV Cable, plug the audio connections into the RCA Audio Output jacks on the back of the HomeDock HD Base. Be sure to match the colors of the cable to the color of the corresponding jack (red = right, white = left). 5. Plug the other end of the digital audio cable or RCA audio cable into the corresponding jack on your TV or home stereo. Be sure to note which inputs you are using on your TV or home stereo. 6. Turn on your HomeDock HD with the included Remote Control. Turn on your TV and/or home stereo and then select the correct input(s) for HomeDock HD. 8 | DLO HOMEDOCK HD USER MANUAL HDHD_manual_rev4.indd 8-9 | 9 8/5/08 4:37:18 PM On-Screen Navigation HomeDock HD lets you navigate and select your Music and Videos using a sleek on-screen navigation interface. The included Remote Control uses RF (radio frequency) so you can control your music from anywhere in the house (within 75ft), without a direct line of sight to the HomeDock HD Base. Refer to the diagram below for more information about the functions of your Remote Control. HomeDock HD will begin playing songs randomly from your entire iPod library. • Any time a track is playing from your iPod while connected to HomeDock HD, the current track info can be displayed by choosing Now Playing from the Main Menu. The current track information includes song title, artist name, album name, time elapsed, time remaining, as well as Album Art (when available). • To increase the scrolling speed when scrolling through a long list, hold down the Up or Down Nav Arrow Buttons for at least 3 seconds. NOTE: Volume controls are not available while using an HDMI cable. You must control volume with your TV or home stereo remote control. 10 | DLO HOMEDOCK HD USER MANUAL HDHD_manual_rev4.indd 10-11 • To fast-forward or rewind through a song, press and hold the Next/Fast-Forward Button or the Previous/Rewind Button. • Press the Shuffle Button to toggle between Off and Song Shuffle. | 11 8/5/08 4:37:18 PM Album Art and Your HomeDock HD Displaying Album Artwork HomeDock HD can display album artwork for the currently playing track (if available) or while browsing by album. Once displayed, the album artwork is cached in HomeDock HD’s memory for faster retrieval later. See Cataloging [pg.16]. Album artwork is displayed in several places throughout the user interface: • Whenever a selection is playing, the album artwork is displayed in the Now Playing Banner near the bottom of the screen. • The maximum size of Album Art (if available) is as follows: 100 x 100 pixels from 2G iPod nano, 200 x 200 pixels from 5G iPod with video, and 320 x 320 pixels from iPod touch, iPod classic and 3G iPod nano. • It can take several seconds to load the artwork from your iPod. While the larger artwork is loading, HomeDock HD will display smaller Art (if available). NOTE: You will see a “Please Wait” message while the artwork is loading. HomeDock HD will be unresponsive if you attempt to use the Remote Control during this process. See Cataloging [pg.16]. • HomeDock HD can hold up to 250 Album Art images. Once that limit is reached, HomeDock HD will delete the least-used image in order to store a new one. • If your current selection does not have any Album Art, or if the Album Art is unavailable, HomeDock HD will display one of seven placeholder images: • When browsing by album, the album artwork for the currently selected album is shown (if available) as well as the album artwork for the currently playing song. NOTE: Larger album art size may take a few moments to download. • Several screensavers have the ability to display the album artwork of the currently playing song. 12 | DLO HOMEDOCK HD USER MANUAL HDHD_manual_rev4.indd 12-13 • NOTE: The 4th Generation iPod does not currently support external display of album artwork. | 13 8/5/08 4:37:20 PM Enjoying Photos + Slideshows HomeDock HD Menus To view photos and slideshows from your photo-compatible iPod on your TV using HomeDock HD: 1. Using HomeDock HD with Standard-Definition Televisions While HomeDock HD is designed to give you the best viewing experience on high-definition televisions, you can still use it with your standard-definition television set. Just choose the appropriate standard-definition format for your region from the Settings > Resolution Menu. Standard-Definition Settings: Standard-Def NTSC Standard-Def PAL 20 | DLO HOMEDOCK HD USER MANUAL HDHD_manual_rev4.indd 20-21 | 21 8/5/08 4:37:21 PM Frequently Asked Questions Do I have to use a TV with HomeDock HD? My Music or Video sounds a little distorted and fuzzy. WHAT CAN I DO? No. The only time you need a TV is for On-Screen Navigation of your music or videos, or to view videos or photos from a video- or photo-compatible iPod. With all other uses, HomeDock HD is a music-based, remote controlled home docking system for your iPod that requires nothing but a stereo or powered speakers to play your iPod music. Simply switch to iPod Mode by pressing the Mode Button on the Remote Control, then you can control your iPod without On-Screen Navigation. First, adjust Volume for the best sound quality. If listening to your music through your HomeDock HD sounds unusually low or noisy, be sure that your HomeDock HD’s volume is set at an adequate level. The balance of volume between your HomeDock HD and Stereo/TV can affect the audio quality significantly. This is only necessary with an AV connection. When using an HDMI connection, volume is not managed with the HomeDock HD. Of course, to get the most out of your HomeDock HD, you should connect it to an HD TV and home stereo with an HDMI connection. Remember, in order to use On-Screen Navigation to select your music and videos, you have to connect your HomeDock HD to a TV. Also, it is a good idea to adjust the iPod EQ settings. We recommend setting your iPod EQ to Off and adjusting your TV or home stereo’s bass and treble controls to 0. Then you can experiment with iPod EQ settings, and adding bass and treble to your desired level. NOTE: The sound quality on HomeDock HD is only as good as the quality of the source file. Do I have to use HomeDock HD with a high-definition television? No. While HomeDock HD was designed to give you the best viewing experience with a high-definition television, you can still use HomeDock HD with a standard-definition TV. Navigate to the Settings > Resolution Menu and choose the appropriate Standard-Def setting (NTSC or PAL). My HomeDock HD isn’t working, what’s wrong? First, be sure that your HomeDock HD is powered on, and that your video input cable is properly plugged in to your TV. Wait 45 seconds to allow the unit to fully boot up. Next, make sure that you are in the desired mode: On-Screen Navigation Mode or iPod Mode. To change modes, simply push the Mode Button on your Remote Control. See Remote Control Diagram [pg.10] NOTE: If your HomeDock HD is in On-TV Navigation Mode, the “Accessory Attached” screen will be displayed on the iPod. If your HomeDock is in iPod Mode, the iPod menu screen will be displayed on the iPod. 22 | DLO HOMEDOCK HD USER MANUAL HDHD_manual_rev4.indd 22-23 WHY IS MY PHOTO SLIDESHOW ONLY PLAYING ON MY IPOD SCREEN INSTEAD OF ON MY TV? On your iPod, check to see that your TV Out setting under Video/Photo Settings is set to either Ask or On. Your iPod arrives in the Ask setting, so unless you change your iPod Settings to On, you will have to select TV On each time you start up a video or photo slideshow. WHY DOES MY HomeDock HD sometimes seem to have a lag time before it displays my iPod content, like album art or song information? The response delay time, if any, is usually HomeDock HD waiting for information from the iPod. Hard-drive based iPods like the iPod classic or 5G iPod with video take longer than flash-based iPods like the iPod nano and iPod touch. How long it takes depends on how much content is on the iPod and what information is being requested. For instance, when you’ve selected a screensaver that displays “large” Album Art (if available), it can take up to 10 seconds for the iPod to access that artwork. See Album Art and Your HomeDock HD [pg.13] for more information. NOTE: The 4th Generation iPod does not currently support external display of album artwork. | 23 8/5/08 4:37:21 PM Tech Specs Service + Support Inputs / Outputs iPod Models Supported Audio Outputs • Analog L/R Music Compatibility: • Optical Digital Video Outputs • HDMI All dockable iPods (excluding 3G iPod) • iPod touch (8GB, 16GB, 32GB) • iPod classic (80GB, 160GB) • iPod nano 3rd Generation (4GB, 8GB) • Composite • 5G iPod with video (30GB, 60GB, 80GB) • S-Video • iPod nano 2nd Generation (2GB, 4GB, 8GB) Auxiliary Audio Input: 3.5mm stereo mini-jack • iPod nano 1st Generation (1GB, 2GB, 4GB) Power Adapter Input: 100-240VAC, 47-63 Hz • iPod mini (4GB, 6GB) Power Adapter Output: 10VDC, 1.5 amps max • 4G iPod with click wheel (20GB, 40GB, U2) USB-A: standard universal serial bus, USB 2.1 Remote Control Battery: 3V, type CR2032 or equivalent RF Range: Approximately 75ft Television Video Format For more information, software updates and tips, please visit our website at www.dlo.com and click Support. • 4G iPod with color display (20GB, 30GB, 40GB, 60GB, U2) video Compatibility: All iPods with video capability • iPod touch (8GB, 16GB, 32GB) • iPod classic (80GB, 160GB) • iPod nano 3rd Generation (4GB, 8GB) • 5G iPod with video (30GB, 60GB, 80GB) NTSC/PAL: Software switchable NOTE: Apple iPod models listed as of August 2008 24 | DLO HOMEDOCK HD USER MANUAL HDHD_manual_rev4.indd 24-25 | 25 8/5/08 4:37:21 PM Warranty FCC Statement Digital Lifestyle Outfitters Limited Manufacturer’s Warranty Federal Communications Commission Interference Statement This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules.
