Read this Owner’s Manual carefully before use and store it in a safe and convenient place where you can refer to the manual easily whenever necessary.

• This digital audio system is specially designed for Honda motorcycles. Consult with your authorized Honda motorcycle dealer for the applicable models.

• Please note that American Honda Motor Co., Inc. does not assume any responsibilities for any damage (e.g. personal injury, machine failure, equipment damage, etc.) from use of this accessory on a model that is not specified.

• Installation of this accessory on a Honda motorcycle requires technical skill and experience. For safety, consult with your authorized Honda motorcycle dealer for installation.

• This Owner’s Manual should be included with this accessory when it is resold.

SERVICE PRECAUTIONS

Although this accessory was designed and manufactured with vibration-proof performance in mind, always remember to ride your motorcycle safely on paved roads.

The temperature of the amplifier unit rises when it is used for a prolonged time. This is normal.

Note that the digital audio system can emit noise when you use a device that emits electric waves near this accessory or near a portable audio unit connected to this accessory. Keep devices like this away from this digital audio system and the portable audio unit.

• Device that emits electric waves :

Electronic notebook, mobile phone, walkie-talkie, etc.

• Equipment emitting electric waves :

TV tower, power plant, radio/TV station, airport, etc.

If you ride the motorcycle with the amplifier turned ON without connecting a portable audio player, you may hear noises from the speaker. If you connect the amplifier to a portable radio, you may hear noises.

Power supply

The motorcycle’s 12 V battery is used as the power source for this accessory. Do not use any battery that is not designed for your motorcycle. If you feel that the battery is too weak to operate the starter motor, charge the battery or replace it immediately.

To prevent a discharged battery

Do not use this accessory for a prolonged time without starting the engine or with the engine idling, as it discharges the battery.

Cleaning

Although they are designed to be waterproof, do not apply high-pressured water to the amplifier unit and speaker when you wash your motorcycle.

Wipe the amplifier unit with a dry soft cloth to clean. Clean with a mild detergent and water solution. Do not use an organic solvent (e.g. acid detergent, alkali detergent, gasoline, benzine, thinner, etc.) or an abrasive powder. Do not spill battery fluid or brake fluid on the accessory as they will damage the finish.

When you have a problem

When you notice a problem, refer to “TROUBLESHOOTING” on page 14 and check the part.

If you cannot resolve the problem, bring the digital audio system to your authorized Honda motorcycle dealer and consult with them for repair.

Applicable portable audio unit

A commercially available portable audio player with a stereo mini jack terminal can be connected to this accessory. (An attachment kit designed for the model is necessary to connect the portable audio player to this accessory.) American Honda Motor Co., Inc. recommends you use a shock-resistant portable audio player such as a flash-memory player (e.g. MP3, etc.) or an MD player equipped with sound skip prevention function.

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. also recommends you always ride your motorcycle safely on paved roads, because sound skip can occur during riding on rough roads. Refer to the following instructions on storage and handling of the portable audio unit.

This accessory is not designed to operate the portable audio unit connected to the accessory.

Refer to the portable audio unit manufacturer’s Owner’s Manual for how to operate the portable audio unit and operate it accordingly. Note that the warranty of this accessory does not cover function and failure of the portable audio unit connected to the accessory.

Storage of portable audio unit connected to this accessory

After connecting the digital audio system, put the portable audio unit in a stable place where it does not interfere with riding the motorcycle (e.g. in the sold separately front pouch, tank belt pocket, etc.) in a place free from vibration as much as possible. Do not place the portable audio unit in your pockets or clothes while connected to this accessory.

The portable audio unit can vibrate and contact other materials while riding, causing a sound skip. To prevent such skips, store the portable audio unit in a suitable place while protecting it from vibration and shock by covering it with cushioning material. (Protect the remote control and peripheral devices as well as the portable audio unit.)

Any system failure and damage to the portable audio unit and its peripheral devices are not covered by the warranty of this accessory.

When leaving the motorcycle

When you leave your motorcycle or when the portable audio unit is not being used, disconnect it from the digital audio system and remove it from the vehicle. This will help prevent theft of the portable audio unit.

• Use this accessory only for the specified model.

Use of the accessory on a model other than the specified model can cause an error in wiring, which possibly leads to fire, machine failure or other accident.

• Use all the parts included in the accessory kit and the attachment kit designed for the model. Refer to the Installation Instructions and install accordingly.

Use of any parts that are not designed for the model can cause damage to the accessory and/or the vehicle, or short circuit resulting in fire. Incorrect wiring and installation can make the accessory come loose while riding, causing machine failure, fire, or other accident.

• Hold the handlebar with both hands while riding. Avoid operating the amplifier unit or portable audio unit that is connected to the accessory while riding.

Operating the amplifier unit or portable audio unit while riding can impair secure handling of the motorcycle. You can fall off your motorcycle possibly resulting in death or serious injury.

• Do not hang any article on the speaker and do not install an undesignated part on it.

It can come loose while riding, possibly causing machine failure or accident.

CAUTION

• If you notice any machine failure (i.e. the digital audio system does not sound, faulty amplifier unit, etc.) or any abnormal symptom such as smoke or abnormal smell from the accessory, stop using the accessory immediately and consult with your authorized Honda motorcycle dealer.

Using the accessory without repair will cause accident, fire, electric shock to the operator, etc.

• Do not disassemble or modify the accessory.

It can cause accident, fire, or electric shock to the operator.

Always have your accessory repaired by your authorized Honda motorcycle dealer.

• Never cut the insulation of a wire so supply power to another electric appliance.

It can exceed the capacity of the wire causing fire, electric shock to the operator.

• Do not place any article on the amplifier unit and do not cover the amplifier unit with a cloth or other material.

Heat will build up inside the amplifier unit, possibly causing fire or machine failure.

FEATURES

This accessory is a digital audio system specially designed for Honda motorcycles.

It allows you to listen to music while riding by connecting a commercially available portable audio player to this accessory.

SPEAKER

The speaker is waterproof and specially designed for motorcycles that are subject to various weather conditions. It features concentrated sound in the vertical direction while minimizing sound in the horizontal direction. This design provides good sound to the rider while minimizing noise pollution beyond the seating area of the motorcycle.

AMPLIFIER UNIT

The waterproof amplifier case has large control buttons that are easy to use with gloved hands.

The vibration-proof digital amplifier has a maximum output of 20W + 20W.

The amplifier features an AVC (Auto Volume Control) function.

OPERATION PROCEDURE

Turning power ON to listen to music.

Connect the digital audio system to the portable audio unit with the sub cord.

SUB CORD

Turn the portable audio unit ON that is connected to the digital audio system.

Start the engine and push the amplifier unit POWER button.

POWER LIGHT

The light should come ON.

Push the VOLUME button to adjust the sound level to your preference.

DOWN

UP

The amplifier unit emits a “beep” each time the VOLUME button is pushed, but there is no “beep” when the volume is at minimum or maximum.

The amplifier unit emits the “beep” twice when the VOLUME button is pushed and held (approx. 2 seconds.) The sound level changes continuously while pushing and holding the VOLUME button.

ADVICE

• After connecting the portable audio unit to the digital audio system, position it in a place on your motorcycle so it does not interfere with safe riding.

Turning power OFF

Turn the power OFF as follows:

Push the VOLUME DOWN button to turn the sound down to the minimum.

Push the amplifier unit POWER button to turn the power OFF.

POWER LIGHT

The light should go

OFF.

Turn OFF the power of the portable audio unit connected to the amplifier unit.

ADVICE

• Be sure to turn the sound level down to the minimum before tuning the power OFF. This will prevent loud sounds from being emitted suddenly when the power is turned ON next time.

MUTE function

Push the MUTE button to temporarily turn down the sound level to the minimum.

Use this function when an emergency vehicle (e.g. ambulance, fire truck, etc.) is approaching or before crossing a railroad. Push the MUTE button again to cancel the MUTE function.

POWER LIGHT

The light blinks when the

MUTE function is armed.

USEFUL INFORMATION

• The MUTE function is cancelled by turning the power OFF.

• The sound level cannot be adjusted while the MUTE function is engaged.

TROUBLESHOOTING

SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSE MEASURES

Digital audio system does not sound or sound level is low.

No sound from left or right speaker.

Sound distorts or the digital audio system is disturbed by noises.

AVC does not function.

Power is OFF.

Volume is set at the minimum.

Push the POWER button to turn the power ON.

Raise the volume either on the amplifier unit or on the portable audio unit connected to the digital audio system.

Connect the sub cord securely.

Sub cord is not connected to the por table audio unit securely.

Amplifier unit is in MUTE mode.

Blown fuse.

Cancel the MUTE function.

Amplifier unit or controller is faulty.

Replace the on-vehicle or the optional harness fuse.

Consult with your authorized

Honda motorcycle dealer.

Sub cord is not connected to the por table audio unit securely.

Amplifier unit is faulty.

Connect the sub cord securely.

Input signal is too high.

Consult with your authorized

Honda motorcycle dealer.

Adjust the volume on the portable audio unit.

Cancel the function.

“ B a s s - e n h a n c e m e n t function” is set.

Digital audio system is near a device or equipment that is emitting electric waves.

Move the device emitting electric waves away from the digital audio system. Avoid operating the digital audio system near the equipment is emitting electric wave.

Amplifier unit is faulty.

Consult with your authorized

Honda motorcycle dealer.

Push and hold the MUTE button for approx. 4 seconds with the power OFF. Check that the POWER light blinks once and check the AVC for operation again.

(If the POWER light blinks twice, push and hold the MUTE button for appox. 4 seconds again.)

Aside from the probable causes listed in the above chart, the portable audio unit connected to the digital audio system can cause problems. Refer to the Owner’s Manual of the portable audio unit for further information.
