Computer Connection
System setup
RMVistor automatically operates as an external USB 2.0 hard disk when connected to a PC
or Macintosh. Use the included USB 2.0 cable to connect your device to the computer
system. Your system will automatically recognize RMVistor as an external hard disk in which
you can copy any file(s) you want (music, movie, picture, and/or data).
RMVistor is an external USB 2.0 hard disk device that can be connected to a variety of
Operating Systems supporting the USB interface:
•
•
Win98/SE (Install driver from CD first)
Windows Me/2000/XP/Vista
• Mac OS9, OSX
In order to safely remove your RMVistor from your
system, please follow the same procedures as for
any Plug & Play external USB device. Specifically:
Double click on the taskbar icon to “Unplug or Eject
hardware”. The adjacent dialogue box will appear,
displaying the Plug & Play external devices. In the
current example, you can see RMVistor as a USB
Mass Storage Device.
In order to remove it, click the device in the list and
then click Stop.
Click OK on the next dialogue box. The operating
system will automatically stop the device and inform
you for its safe removal. If you are using RMVistor
(e.g. you are working on a Word document or a
picture located in its disk), the operating system will
notify you that it is unable to remove the device. In
this case, close all the applications affecting or
accessing RMVistor and try again.

Formatting the HDD
Formatting on a PC (Win2000/XP/Vista)
Use the Disk Management Utility
• Right click on “My Computer”
and choose “Manage”
• Select “Disk Management”
• Choose the drive you want to
format and right click on the
Disk or drive field for further
commands
• Create a primary partition and
format it
• Follow the Wizard instructions
You can also format RMVistor using FAT32 but this will have the limitation of max disk being
32GB and max file size being 4GB.
Note: To be able to use the RMVistor on all Operating Systems, you will need to use
FAT32. To create one single disk over 32GB use the DOS command prompt and the
“fdisk” command on Win98/SE or WinME.
RMVistor supports three partition.
Formatting on a Mac (OS X)
Mac OS9.2 and earlier, do not
support creation of partitions on
an external drive. To do that,
you will need to purchase
additional 3rd party software,
connect the drive to the internal
IDE bus, or upgrade to OS X.
Initializing the drive can be done
on all Operating Systems.
For Mac OS X, use the Disk
Utility to format and create
partitions on your external disk.
• Select “Disk Utility” in the
utilities folder
• Choose your external drive
and format it according to
your requirement. For Mac
only, choose “Mac OS Extended”
NOTE: To be able to use the RMVistor on all Operating Systems, you will need to use
FAT32 (max file size limited to 4GB!). To create one single disk over 32GB, use the
DOS command prompt and the “fdisk” command on Win98/SE or WinME.

FAQs
Q: Can I connect the AV out from my TV directly to the AV in on the RMVisto and
record?
A: Yes, this is possible, however the media player does not have a built in TV tuner, so it can
only record whatever signal is currently being transmitted. If you change the TV channel, the
recorded channel will change accordingly and if the TV is turned off, it will not be possible to
record anything.
Q: Why is there no sound?
A: Make sure the cables are connected correctly, mute is disabled and that the audio format
is supported. If you are using the digital audio output via SPDIF or HDMI cable, go to the
Audio category in the Setup menu and select the corresponding output.
Q: I can not see anything on my TV screen but the media player is connected and
turned on!
A: If the device is connected correctly and turned on but there is no output, we recommend
first removing the power supply and reconnecting it. If after 2 minutes there is still no signal,
press the TV System button on the remote control to change the video output until you see
the main screen.
Q: What are external SRT subtitles?
A: External SRT subtitles are text files that contain subtitles to an AVI video. They can be
used to display subtitles without the need to re-encode the video to embed them. The text file
has to be in the so called SubRIP format (SRT), it has to be renamed using the same file
name and stored in the same folder as the video. During playback of the AVI file, the Subtitle
button on the remote control can be used to turn the subtitle on or disable it. Make sure the
Text Encoding in the setup menu matches the subtitle.
Q: Why my some movie can not be displayed??
A: Please confirm the resolution of the movie. Too high resolution to be supported. Such as
RM/RMVB format up to 720 x 576; HD movie up to 720P(1280 x 720), MKV format up to 720
x 576.
Q: I can not find any shared folders when browsing the network, what do I do?
A: First of all, go to the Network category in the setup menu and make sure the settings are
correct and the device has acquired an IP address. Second, make sure the shared folders
are on the same local network as the media player and the folders are accessible and not
blocked by a firewall. If this has been done already, restart both the media player and the
device or computer where the folder is being shared. If even this does not help, go to “My
Shortcuts” instead and add the remote folder manually, by typing in the IP address and the
corresponding login details.
Q: Can I watch a video and record at the same time?
A: Yes, this is possible although for optimal performance, it is recommend only doing one at
the time.
Q: When I connected one portable hard disk to RMVISTO, Why can not see it in browse?
A: External USB device need use FAT32 format. And if need, please use external power
supply to USB device.
Q: Why are some of the settings in the setup menu disabled?
A: During recording, certain functions are disabled. Stop recording and then access the setup
menu again.
